(WENN) Actress Jane Fonda is in negotiations to reprise her role in a sequel to the hit 1980 movie Nine To Five. Movie bosses are impressed by Fonda's return to the big screen in Monster-in-Law - in which she battles Jennifer Lopez over her doted-upon son, played by Michael Vartan. And they are keen to sign Fonda up for a follow-up to the office comedy, in which she starred alongside Dolly Parton and Lily Tomlin - because the other two leads have been ready and willing for some time. A source tells website The Scoop, "They've wanted to for years. There's been scripts, potential directors, the works, but everyone thought that for it to really work, they'd need the three leads from the original film. They've talked to Fonda and think they can make this happen. There's some discussion that it might be called Nine To Five Thirty." Fonda's spokeswoman Pat Kingsley, however, insists nothing has been agreed. She says, "There have been no serious conversations about that or any other film project at this time."

I loved 9 To 5 but I don't think a sequel, especially TWENTY FIVE YEARS later would work, considering both Lily and Jane are past retirement age, and that Dolly's character left the office to become a country star.
9 To 5 was one of the great comedies of the 1980's regardless of who played in it. I loved the movie as a kid, when I had no idea who Jane Fonda even was, I knew who Lily and Dolly were, but I actually thought Jane was "the lady from Tootsie" back then (I didn't realize Dustin Hoffman wore makeup and a wig in that movie, I thought they were different people, LOL) but I think too much time has passed for a decent sequel, Jane Fonda is pushing 70, her character probably should've retired by now.
One of my top five favorite movies of all time, but I don't think a sequel would be right, but it'd be interesting to see...

I'm glad that all fo them are still doing things. Lily joined the cast of the West Wing a couple years ago, and Jane was a big star in Monster in Law. They're all still great.

Guys,
Don't toy with a classic!!!! 9 to 5 is a gem!!! Not only is it some of the greatest comedy on film, but it deals with a lot of the serious issues associated with problems on the job today such as gender discrimination, and how company managers/supervisors can abuse their power. It shows how workers can successfully revolt to make a difference if they are being treated unfairly. This film was ahead of its time!
I LOVE the scene were Violet thinks that she poisioned Mr. Hart because the rat poison box looks just like the Skinny and Sweet Box!!!! (well...almost :D )
Violet: "It was an accident!!! I didn't mean to do it! Look the rat poison box is identical to Skinny and Sweet, except for the little skull and crossbones on the label!!!!"
How can you top that???

I agree with Jack.
Plus, 2005 is a different world than 1980. What was daring and unheard of when 9 To 5 came out wouldn't make as much of an impact in 2005.
