ABCFamily is going to air "The Mama Who Came To Dinner" on June 2 at 1pm eastern time if anyone is interested. So get ready for a whole week of pre-urkel eps.

I have no problem with that Urkel helped the show but season 1 the pre-Urkel episodes was a breathe of fresh air.

Watching the 1st season, mainly the pre-urkel eps, feels like watching 2 completely different shows.

They've aired several times before. To be honest, I don't like them as much.

I prefer the later yrs of FM, Happy Days, L&S, etc

Although the pre-urkel eps may not seem as good, I prefer to watch those eps over any eps for seasons 8/9.

Yeah me too. But in my opinion I think season 1 was a pretty good season and had some fairly funny episodes. It was just good old fashioned family comedy.

-When they all went bowling.

-Harriette suspected Carl of cheating with his new partner.

-Carl goes on a diet to go to his class reunion - "Carl babyfood that's pathetic"

-Carl and Eddie try to put in a shower for Mother Winslow: "Nice going Carl you gotta work the shower from the sink

-Rachel wrecks Carl's car for the parade.

Yeah, but I guess FM came at the wrong time and Steve came at the perfect time. I mean people just weren't interested in those normal everyday family comedies, The Cosby Show started losing viewers because of Roseanne and The Simpsons, 2 dysfunctional families. And Married With Children was another popular show from the 90's. Although the Winslows certainly aren't a dysfunctional family, Steve certainly did bring dysfunction to this once peaceful family which is what made the show so unique. Without Urkel, I'm sure FM would have done better if it had started in the early 80's.

Yeah Urkel did add that uniqueness to the show, but I just wish they did not blow his character out of proportion. They should have stuck with how they did things in the 2nd and 3rd seasons. Because although in both of those seasons Urkel was given more attention it still felt like a family show because the rest of the characters were getting a decent amount of attention. Like the episode when Steve goes to church with the Winslows and joins the choir with Rachel as choir director. Mainly it was about Steve with his experience with church but a lot of focus was also on Rachel in learning how the choir director position went to her head.

When Urkel was introduced in this season, Did anyone see Rachel's face when she saw Urkel for the first time? They cut it out on ABC family but they show it on the WB. It was the episode when Carl tried to set up a date for Laura with Urkel. Urkel said "I hope you guys don't mind if I stay awhile but my folks said I can't be home until 10" She was looking at him like he was a rodent or something. It was so funny

Saturdays and Sundays at 12:00 Noon and 12:30pm. Sometimes other programming comes on at that time but most of the time Family Matters comes on in those time slots.

It really does feel like watching 2 different shows, it's not just that Steve is hardly ever there, but the characters are much different too, Eddie was a dumb character like Waldo, Laura is just a smart ass brat who only makes fun of Eddie, and she really wasn't that attractive, and Judy was a little sassy at times, unlike the last yr she was on the show during the 4th season when she was just there, or hardly ever there, and Bryton McClure wasn't even on the show, all we see is baby Richie played by a different person. The 1st eps really did feel like a completely different show mainly because the set looked completely different, the theme song was different, and Valerie Jones played Judy. And in the 1st eps when Mother Winslow moved in, she was very pushy and annoying to the other characters at times.

Also in season 1 Laura interacted with Judy more.

I get the same feeling when I watch the 1st 2 seasons of Happy Days.

Watching seasons 1 and 2 I still can't believe what a difference it is. Who would even think when you are watching season 1/2 a normal sitcom, that later in the series we would be seeing Steve transforming himself, cloning himself, teleporting everyone to Paris and time traveling etc. Although we were introduced to the Urkelbot in season 3, it somehow seemed more realistic than the other inventions in the later seasons.

Only on a WB station, not the network.

I feel the same way too, it's weird watching the 1st season eps mainly because the Winslows have no ideas what they're about too experience, pure chaos when Steve comes along, not too mention all of the disappearing family members over the yrs, the show changed alot from beginning to end with the most unrealistic plots and cast changes.
