I thought that on a episode of "All in the Family" when the Jeffersons first moved in was't it stated that they got the money to open thier cleaning store when a Bus rearended them and they were awared $3.000 in reimburstment

yes. lionel told archie on an ep of AITF that his parents were involved in a car accident and recieved money from that to open the business. I wasn't paying attention th the dollar amount or if it was a bus or not, but if thats how you remember it, it's probably right.
