View Full Version : This maybe the reason some Good Times Fans didn't enjoy Carl during season 4
TVFactFan 05-28-2005, 11:58 PM Probably because some viewers looked at him as a REPLACEMENT for James instead of Just a character who was added to the show. Viewers were supposed to look at Carl the same way they looked at Penny and Keith. A New Addition to the show. I never felt Carl was there to replace James which is why I enjoyed him.

Carl wasn't bad, I just didn't like how he treated Florida on their first date. You were right by saying he wasn't there to replace James, but he was there to be something like a man figure, he turned out ok, not great, but ok.

Carl was in the right for getting mad at the restarunt but wrong for sending her home in a cab.
Brian Damage 05-30-2005, 11:55 AM I think you are wrong Solomon. Of course Carl was a replacement for James. If John Amos wasn't fired, do you really believe the Carl character would've been introduced?

But I just can't understand why some people didn't like Carl. The man was funny as hell with that voice and his facial impressions.
Brian Damage 05-30-2005, 12:39 PM I have season 4 on dvd. I'll watch it again to see if he stands up. My memory is a bit fuzzy about him.
seventies_sitcoms 05-30-2005, 04:15 PM Didn't Carl work at Mary Ingalls' blind school on Little House??
Anyway, I don't think Carl was all that bad. If he was going to be a permanent James replacement I don't think he would've made a bad one. They sort of made Carl a no-nonsense type that would been a good father figure to help out with the rest of the raising of the kids (mostly Michael).
nerrad 05-31-2005, 02:20 PM ...and he didn't believe in God. He even had Michael conned into it. And Floirda still married him, LOL. As religious as she was.

   True! True!
alienkattuk 07-03-2005, 04:39 PM I think Carl/Florida relationship was force on us. the writers pushed them too fast.
we all know that Flo will never leave her kids and married a complete stranger.
that is not the Flo we all know.
Flo will have take her kids with her.
she will never ABANDONED her kids for a man!

The story of Florida moving to Arizona with Carl and leaving her kids was only created because Esther Rolle left the show after the 1976-77 season.
Michael should have went with Florida to Arizona, I mean, there was really nothing for him to do there, he just ended being a carbon copy of J.J.
nlearfan 07-06-2005, 01:29 PM Carl wasn't all that bad, although things did move quite fast.
