Today at work, a co-worker of mine was doing the crossword puzzle in the paper and said "You don't know anything about Space Odyssey, do you?" I said "No". He said "What about The Mary Tyler Moore Show?' I was SO excited! I said "OMG, yes I do!! Ask me!" He asked a easy question about Ted. And then he asked me "how in the world did you know that?" (I am only 21 years old) I said "I LOVE MARY TYLER MOORE!!!" Then I went on to tell him about the Dick Van Dyke Show, the Mary Tyler Moore Show, and then I just started talking about Dick Van Dyke and his movies. Now he wants to see some of the shows. I may have a future DVD Show Lover to add to this list!!!! Does anyone ever have these sort of unexpected moments and get really excited? It made my day!

I had a roommate in college who had never been interested in classic movies or tv, and one day I came home to find him halfway through one of my tapes of DVD episodes (this was a couple years ago, before the dvds.) He said Laura Petrie was his dreamwife, and he watched everything I had from the show after that.

So yes, it does feel good to "convert" someone! It's hard to tell what people's expectations are, because whenever I've watched anything "old" with a newbie they love it and say something like "Wow, I didn't know it was that good!" And they genuinely seem surprised. I guess there's just too much mediocre entertainment around these days. And I think I'm lucky to have friends who "get over it" when something comes on in black and white. It drives me craaaaaazy when people see B&W and moan... :rolleyes:

I've posted in other threads how I'm ridiculed at work by the 30 something kids for talking about the 60s and 70s. I don't say much to them that isn't work related anymore, but last week I slipped up. They were talking abut the high price of gas, and I said I remember the first gas I bought when I got my license was 19 cents a gallon. One of the punks piped up with "Are you gonna tell us next about how a candy bar cost a nickel?" :mad:

I'm glad I have this place to come and share stories about my favorite TV shows with people who appreciate them.

Actually, everyone else I know of that's my age doesn't understand why I prefer older movies to newer. I was actually called a Puritan the other day for again talking about DVD, MTM, James Dean, RFK and JFK. Oh well, it doesn't bother me!! That's why I get along with people who are older than I am. I've ALWAYS preferred the 50's and 60's to any other decade.
