Is it really true that the 1969 series The New People has become lost? Only the pilot and some upcoming previews for other episodes are all what exist. Are the networks throwing away old series just like the studios threw out and destroyed old silent films? If it is true I find that very alarming. We better start preserving TV series now.

The pilot episode (which includes scenes from upcoming episodes) is the only episode known to exist. A 16mm print complete with commercials somehow ended up in the posession of a Rod Serling organization (he wrote the pilot) and all VHS/DVD copies have come from that single print. Or so the story goes.

Anyway, other episodes may exist in a vault somewhere. There was an article in Entertainment Weekly some time back in which producer Aaron Spelling was asked about the show and he stated that he has no idea where/if copies exist. All seventeen episodes may very well be safely stored in a warehouse. Or episodes may exist overseas (the series aired in Australia in the early 1970s, for example). If the rest of the episodes are sitting in storage somewhere nobody has been able to find them.

There is a chance, unfortunately, that the episodes are lost forever.

A good friend of mine was 'in' episode # 5 of the show called "COMES THE REVOLUTION, WE USE THE GIRL'S SHOWER."
He hasn't seen the show since it aired 35 years ago. And, yes, UCLA does indeed have all the episodes. They have some amazing "stuff" there, but are a 'pain in the butt' to deal with. One has to make two trips there to view programs...one to submit one's selections, and another to view those selections weeks later. However, they have a greater selection than the Museum of Radio and TV.

Not true. You can submit a list to them by email and they will let you know when it is available for you. I have done this several times. And yes, Museum of Broadcasting isn't in their league. MOB isn't even second as Library of Congress has a much better collection as well.

So maybe I should go to the Museum to look at-"Checking In"?-LOL
