m&ms are PLAIN. the different colors are misleading and I find it to be false advertising. If I see red, I expect a cherry taste, if I see yellow, I want a lemon taste. For that reason, I prefer skittles.

As Skittles has, I also expect red to be strawberry.

I voted for "Sorry, can't decide." Overall, I say both. It all depends on my mood as well. If I feel like something chocolate-y and in tiny pieces, then I choose M&Ms. If I feel like popping some small fruity candy into my mouth, then I go for Skittles.

As far as sugar-free M&Ms and Skittles - why haven't they made them yet? I'm surprised, actually, as they are both popular candy.

I will tell you from experience that sugar free candy is not that great of an idea. I ate 5 sugar free peppermints at one time, and later on had Diarhea for the rest of the day. Later on I read the bag, and it said to be careful because if you consume too many they work as laxatives. I mean would anybody really only eat 2-3 M&Ms and Skittles?

You're right about the laxatives. I hadn't thought about it. I purchased those low carb Pepper Mint patties, and I do recall reading about the cautious over excessive consuming warning.

Bulimics - listen up - a good tasting laxative where you can binge on it and then use it to purge afterwards!!! :woohoo:

I went with Skittles. Love them (but can't eat them anymore because of my teeth).

I like Smarties a LOT better than M&Ms!! Don't think you can get them in the States - but they're a much better chocolate in them. Like the M&M dudes in the commercials tho! ;)

They're not? What are they then? Ours look a little flatter than M&Ms, have the coloured candy coating, but milk chocolate inside. Used to be that each coating tasted differently, but now they're all the same taste (still the old way in Britain from what I understand tho).

Yeah - Sweetarts rock. Also like those candy necklaces -

That's not as bad as what I read on a pack of Trident sugar-free gum. I can't read it all because the wrapper is torn up, but it says:

Use of this product may be hazardous to your health...
... which has been determined to cause cancer.

I don't know what it says in the middle, but I think it might be Sorbitol. I don't know for sure.

Yeah!!! That's what they are in Canada too - nothing like what's shown in that picture -- those look like what we call "Rockets" (only Rockets are smaller and seen mostly at Halloween). Here's a pic of Canadian Smarties - if you're ever up here, you've got to try them - you'll love them I swear!

I found a great website that gives all the scoop and why the difference between Smarties in the UK/Australia/Canada and the U.S.:

http://www.classaxe.com/smarties/
Smarties are milk chocolate discs 8mm across and 3.5mm thick in the middle, coated in a crisp sugary shell and come in many colours.

FACT: Smarties were invented by Rowntrees in York (UK) in 1937 and were sold for 2d (old pennies) a time. Nestle bought the company (by then called Rowntrees Macintosh after an earlier merger) in 1988. Click here for supporting evidence for this claim.

Today, Nestles make Smarties at:
York (U.K - 530,000 tubes a day!), Czechia, Hamburg (Germany), Toronto (Canada), East London (South Africa), Melbourne (Australia), Thailand and Malaysia where they produce special "Halal approved" Smarties!
If you live in the USA you know Smarties as a different product entirely to the rest of us. This is because the UK company Rowntree's sold the Smarties name to an American company a long time ago. This is WHY you can't get what the rest of the world call "Smarties" in the USA - unless you buy from on of the firms with links later on this page. To see what Smarties means to someone from the USA, visit their web site: http://www.smarties.com.

This is what the box looks like in Canada. I understand they're sold in tubes almost everywhere else.
