I just learned that there has been a verdict in the trial of the man accused of killing Corrine "Punky" Gustavson: GUILTY!!!!
Clifford Sleigh has been convicted of first-degree murder in the 1992 death of the six-year-old girl (whose murder was the focus of an UM episode that aired during the 1993-94 season). He is expected to be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 25 years. Life in prison is the maximum penalty in Canada, since the country has no death penalty.

Which case was this? Was this the little girl who left to go walk her dog out in the rain and then never came home?

I recall that she was snatched while playing with a friend. However, the segment made mention of an abduction of a three-year-old in the area. She went out to look for her missing shoe, only to disappear. Although I don't recall that girl's name, I do know that she was found alive. That case and the Punky murder are believed to be connected.

The other little girl (the one who was found alive) was named Mandy. Her last name was withheld.

Does anyone know if charges were ever filed against anyone for the abduction and molestation of "Mandy"? I know at the time this segment aired originally, the police were speculating about a connection between the two crimes, but perhaps that is no longer the case.
For what it's worth, I posted about this in the "half solved" mystery thread awhile back.

I saw this case on, I think, Cold Case Files also. If I remember correctly, the guy that killed her was actually enraged with his girlfriend so was looking for her daughter to rape/murder. He couldn't find the daughter and was so enraged that he snatched up Punky and murdered her.

Now I'm not sure about this...because I recently saw the Spike version and it said a three year old had been kidnapped from a park right before hand (a couple of days)but she survived, and then Punky was kidnapped. So....I might have had this case mixed up with another little girl that was kidnapped.

No your right, at first they thought it was the same perpetrator. But it was not. I don't know if the guy who almost killed the 3 year old is apprehended..

The girl named Mandy's real name is Mandy Tremblay.
Sadly, there have been no arrests in her case.:(
