I watched "The Flying Nun" to look at Alejandro Rey. I thought he was one hunk. In case some of you don't know, he died at the age of 57. I think he had lung cancer.

In case some of you don't know, he died at the age of 57. I think he had lung cancer. romanticatheart 09-10-2006, 02:28 AM    I loved Alejandro Rey in the show too. It is hard to believe and very sad that he tragically died of lung cancer about 20 years ago. But Thank goodness for reruns, film, video tape, and now DVDs he and others can live on forever at the flick of a switch. Besides being very dashing looking Alejandro brought a wonderful comedic flair to the show. He and Sally Fields had such wonderful Chemistry together. I know as a kid back in the sixties.I always hoped in the end she would be like Maria Von Trapp and leave the convent to marry Carlos. Even my mom who is the most conservative person in the world said at the time" I think that Carlos kinda likes that sister Bertrille". It is plain to see in most of the episodes ( especially in 'Where's There A Will' and 'Song of Bertrille') he always seemed to admire her from a far and in turn she knew she had him wrapped around her little finger.... because rebel, rant and rave with that latin temper, in the end he would always come around end up helping her through another scrape and all would forgiven  I really hope they comple this wondeful show with season three soon. I have the first two seasons and love them. It is a wonderful light family fantasy show that deserves more credit than it is given comedyfreak 09-10-2006, 05:08 AM I had no idea he died, how sad. I love this show and when I watch it, it's still new to me since I haven't seen it in syndication since maybe the 80's or 70's. I have season 2 ordered and can't wait til it comes in. melodyc 09-11-2006, 02:56 AM Alejandro was a very fine actor. He'd done a lot of quality work over the years. I agree completely about his chemistry with Sally Field. There's been little to equal it since. I loved Alejandro's suggestion that they have Bertrille leave the convent, marry Carlos, and then keep bothering him to cast her in shows at the casino. He pointed out they could have called it "I Love Elsie". lol comedyfreak 09-11-2006, 05:19 AM Now that would have been a great follow up show. EmpressDR 12-01-2006, 07:18 PM Great idea, for the "I Love Elsie" show! I always thought the REAL reason Sally Field has had an eternal gripe about the show was because she couldn't have love scenes with Alejandro Rey! Boo Hoo, I was a teenage girl stuck in a nun's habit...:( :happyface Ireneparalegal 12-01-2006, 07:31 PM Oooh, he was gorgeous wasn't he? I loved him in the Flying Nun. So sad that he died so young. AB 01-04-2008, 09:29 PM He was so sexy, I always wished they had gotten together on the show. I didn't realize he had passed away either. So sad! AB 01-05-2008, 04:31 PM A picture of him as Carlos with sister Bertrille: 133774 TripperFan 01-05-2008, 05:41 PM I was a little girl of 5 or 6 when this show initially ran and even then, I had a crush on him!!! I used to hope the same thing, that by the end of the show, they would have her leave the convent and marry him, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Church would have had a fit over it (especially back in those days). Remember, no matter how nice and sweet a guy he was, he was the owner of a casino, and it's not the same as a nun leaving to be a nanny (a la Sound of Music). ;) How sad he died so young. AB 01-05-2008, 07:34 PM ^ I know what you mean, he was just so handsome. Him & sister Bertrille would have made a wonderful couple. Oh, and I loved to hear his sexy voice too. |
