I remember reading a post here a while back about a guy who said he saw some sort of documentary with Penn and Teller about Heidi Wyrick being exposed as a hoax. Can anyone verify this claim? Everywhere I look, I can't find any information about her being a hoax. I personally don't believe her, but it would be interesting to know if there's something out her that exposed her as a hoax. Anyone have any additional info on this?

This case is one of my favorites. I'd sure hate to hear if this was a hoax. I personally believe Heidi.

Long Live Mr. Gordy!

Yea, I mean the ways this girl has been tortured and picked on, I don't know how you could fake it all.

I've also looked for info online regarding this story and could never find anything about it being a hoax. I personally believe the story but if she was lying that would mean that her neighbors (The ones who knew Mr. Gordy and Lon) would also have been lying in the interviews they gave UM. I just find it hard to believe that all these people are in on this hoax and that Heidi's parents would force her to tell a bunch of lies on national TV.

I honestly do believe Heidi and her family were telling the truth.

I believe her. There are too many things it would be hard to fake especially when she was that little, you have to remember Heidi was 3 when she started seeing things. I don't believe you could get a three year old to lie and be that convincing.

I wonder what Heidi is up to now? The last thing I saw of her was it that documentry called A Haunting in Georgia where she was sixteen and still seiing things, but it never said when it was made.

How old would she be today?

nineteen years old - Apparently her parents think nothing of having strangers over their house to speak about questions pertaining to Heidi's ability etc. Heidi has become a very pretty young woman and she still sees spirits although different ones than before. She once tried to serve Mr. Gordy lunch when she was a little kid but he refused to take any food. There is at least one article online that believe it's a hoax as for Penn and Teller a lot of what they broadcast is on the same level as the National Enqiurer so I don't put much stock in them but here are some interesting articles on Heidi Wyrick:

http://www.angelfire.com/weird2/georgia/page2.html (Shows some current pictures of Heidi and sums up her visions of Gordy and Lon. Also speaks of the fact that Mr. Gordy's house is being/has been moved)

http://www.csicop.org/cmi/reviews/20020923-haunting.html (This article kind of writes the Wyricks off as a bunch of "Bible Belt" nutters - It's actually really goes well beyond the objective point of view that I would like to see in relation to this case. I was never a big fan of the "Ghosts" segments and don't have or plan to buy the dvd but I always though Heidi's family were telling the truth or at least the truth as they knew it)

Okay, she so does not look like a beached whale. But that still made me laugh out loud. :p

I've seen a few of Penn and Teller's TV shows and as another poster wrote they are hardly reliable. Just onesided stabs, more concerned with entertainment than investigation or pursuit of truth. If you look at the listings of the subjects of their TV segments, Heidi Wyrick is not mentioned, nor anything close to a description of that supposed episode. Penn and Teller may have mentioned her, and dismissed her claims, briefly in a more general segment on paranormal stuff.

I believe her story is legit. It includes many obscure tidbits like Lon and the missing arm. I doubt a madeup tale would have been well researched enough to include something like that, especially involving someone other than the main person Heidi was supposedly "talking" to.

You people are messed up for picking on Hedi and calling her a beached whale. I would love to see what some of you look like. It is people like you that give people complexs that lead to eating disorders. In my opinion I do not see hedi as overweight. She is not 100 pounds, but so what. I am very disapointed in some members that are regulars here posting a mean spirited thing like that. Stay on topic.

Geez, make one joking comment on an Internet message board and you guys flip out. Give me a break. Stop being so sensitive; it was only a joke.

Here is the deal - I come from the school where if you can't say something nice about someone you just don't say anything. I'm not gonna say anything negative about Heidi Wyrick cause I don't know her personally and therefore really should reserve my personal opinions about her.

However, Fuji was just making a joke and though it probably did rub some people the wrong way its not like he called her up and said it to her over the telephone or in person. Another thing to remember though is there are people who have been involved in the segments on the show who drop by here so it's always nice to say the kind thing if you can if somebody is watching. I mean you wouldn't say something like "I'm so happy your family member went missing" or whatever on the boards and you shouldn't say mean-spirited things in this case either.

Lets just move on and get back to discussing the show and the cases.

So, you don't think it's "mean-spirited" to say that if a man doesn't work, a man doesn't EAT??! What about senior citizens? Or crazy people? What about some poor sod without arms n' legs, or something?? I mean REALLY... And SOME "beached whales" are SO fat, that their heft alone qualifies them for Disability payments! [Not that Heidi's all THAT fat, but she sure ain't skinny!]

Jesus you guys are making her out to be Precious, she's not big at all. I doubt Penn and Teller would have an entire episode dedicated to the Wyrick case. They did shows about life after death, Gandhi, Mother Teresa, and believe it or not how handicapped parking spaces are a bad thing. I don't think they would have an epsiode about Heidi, since it wasn't that nationally known.

Ms. Wyrick body dimensions aside, I never understood why this "case" received all of the attention that it has received.

She never gives any significant details about the deceased people that there would be absolutely no way she could know. She never submitted herself to any type of legitimate scientific testing or scrutiny. She also seems to have no idea of her own how her "abilities" work.

There is nothing about this situation that cannot be explained by Ms. Wyrick having a good memory for conversations ( people often say things around children and then forget that they do), her having a active fantasy life and the fact that Ms. WYrick's parents saw the moneymaking potential of having a "psychic" child.

That signature line is a quote from one of the Unsolved Mysteries segments.

You people are ridiculous. Heidi is telling the truth. The fact that you are putting stock in something like Penn and Teller says a lot for who you are. And guess what. I believe her because I see things too. Have ever since I was five years old. Say what you think, but Heidi, God and I know the truth and that's all that matters.

The fat jokes really need to stop. It isn't about being sensitive, it's downright stupid and juvenile and has no place on this board. Fat people, of which I happen to be one, are PEOPLE. Grow up.

Her weight has nothing to do with her segment, therefore, like the racial crap that went on in some other threads, should be off limits.

I believe that what she experience(d)(s) is real.

Heidi Wyrick story was made into a documentary called "A Haunting in Georgia" which was the second 90 minute episode that served as pilots for the discovery channel series "A Haunting." That series recently completed a fifth season now on the Destination America channel

There was also movie made about it called "A Haunting in Connecticut: Ghosts of Georgia." I can't judge the film as i haven't seen it yet, but will see it soon.

The Haunting documentary included a lot of information that was not featured on the UM episode. Wyrick has been teased often and made fun of by local kids.

It was not an easy upbringing for her. It would be difficult to believe the whole thing is a hoax with all the public ridicule she has received.

As a side note, Wyrick is a pretty good piano player. She plays an obscure Jean Martin piano piece at the end of the documentary.

I've seen it, it wasn't bad. I'm not going to ruin it for you, just wish they would've stuck with the story more
