View Full Version : Bob Denver also suffering from throat cancer?
Charlie Chan 05-22-2005, 08:16 PM The National Enquirer is reporting that in addition to his heart problems that Bob Denver is also battling throat cancer and has had his voice box removed. The family decided not to publicize this part of his ailments.
I don't read this tabloid regularly; I just noticed this on the cover at the newsstand and scanned the article. They were pretty specific in the details and even provided an address to send "get well" cards which leads me to believe that this story has some truth to it. The headline says "Bob Denver dying" which I suppose is technically true since we all are dying, but one can survive throat cancer if treated early.
TV DVD Fan 05-22-2005, 08:43 PM wow i cant believe you're falling for that. national inquirer is class "A" bull. its a mag with absolutely no accuracy.
pat
Charlie Chan 05-22-2005, 10:00 PM I didn't say I was "falling" for this story; hence the question mark in the title. I also quoted the source.
I suspect the truth lies somewhere in the middle. I am not a "tabloid" fan nor do I buy them. However I doubt the content is 100% false. If it was, they would not be able to stay in business due to constant lawsuits. As I understand it, these magazines start with a story that has some grain of truth in it and then exaggerate or over-emphasize the most dramatic angle to get your attention.
As I said, the article seemed pretty specific about what was done and even named the hospital where the procedure was done. That suggests that the info was leaked. However to say that Bob is "dying" would seem to be over the top unless such a diagnosis was made and that also was leaked.
Actor Jack Klugman is a prime example of someone who had throat cancer and is still thriving and active so to equate this disease with a death sentence is not accurate.
Mr. Television 05-22-2005, 11:45 PM I hope its not true.
BOOGIE2000 05-23-2005, 08:13 AM [B] This Rumor is untrue
Please do not believe even one ounce of print from these trash thrashers called tabloids. I spoke to Drema Denver yesterday, Bob has not had throat cancer. He went to the doctor on April 4 was told he needed a heart Catherization, was performed in late April, major blockage was found, a quadrupple bypass was performed. Bob is resting at home, Drema has contacted a law firm in Ohio about this. The best thing that a person can do is not buy these types of papers. Same paper also reported that Elvis Presley was spotted in a " Mars type saucer leaving Graceland on August 16 1983"
Also a report was made that Bill Clinton was admitted to Bethesda Naval Hosp. on March 20th 1999 to have a Sex change.
Drema has confirmed that bob will return to the air on WGAG radio which is on the air in my area, and broadcast from the basement of thier home, in the first week of June, and will talk about his operation. As for his address I believe I posted it here just a couple days ago, it is readily available on bobdenver.com as well as several autograph collectors sites. The only thing these type papers are good for is toilet paper, or birdcage liners. Hope this helps and continue to pray for Bob and Drema.

Well, I would certainly put more faith in something coming from Bob's wife, Dreama, so thank you for sharing this. Obviously most of the public doesn't have the direct connection you do. Either someone fed bad information to the tabloid or the tabloid took some liberties with the truth. Either way the parties responsible should be held accountable.
Hey, Bill Clinton could benefit from such an operation (although this sounds like something the "Weekly World News" would print rather one of the other tabloids). I don't believe the Elvis and flying saucer story either. I know it can't be true since he works at the Wal-Mart down the street. :)
TripperFan 05-23-2005, 11:14 AM Ahhh, but the best tabloid story yet was one I saw in the mid-nineties while waiting in line at the supermarket. The Star had the story on their cover - a Dog Faced Baby was born to a woman in Iowa.
Here's a recent pic of him now. I think he got his driver's license a couple of months ago:
BOOGIE2000 05-23-2005, 03:30 PM Tabloids do not fall under the term press, rather they are called a form of entertainment, so they use no scrupples, this is how they get away with so much. Living here next to Bob, does have its advantages to a direct link to him, I also own a small business in Mercer County and advertise on WGAG, so thereforth inside info and direct links to Dreama (or Dreams as bob calls her) comes quite easily. I only wish the goverment would regulate these trash papers the way they do everything else. And yes I do agree Bill clinton could benefit from that operation, afterall Hillary already wears the pants in that family
To all on this message board I bid you a good day, a better tommorow, and may God Bles and keep each and every one of you. Come visit West Virginia, you might be suprised and actualy meet up with Bob.
gilligan fanatic 05-23-2005, 04:23 PM I hate tabloid, but its fun to read the headlines even if they aren't true because they give them funny titles some times. I am glad its not true about Bob Denver to
iDOhavealife 05-23-2005, 04:45 PM Thanks, Boogie, for the information. May I quote you on the TVLand GI board? Some guy posted the throat cancer info. over there, and when I told him that only the Enquirer had reported that story, and that I wouldn't believe it until I heard it from a reputable news source, he told me that the Enquirer must have a good source and be pretty sure of the story or else they wouldn't print it and take a chance on getting sued.
BTW--I'm a native West Virginian, too (Charleston/St. Albans area). I live in the Nashville TN area, now.
Thanks for the information! I've e-mailed Bob and Dreama, but I'm sure they have so many well-wishes right now, they can't keep up with everything. I edit the TV Tome page for Bob, and Dreama sent me a very nice e-mail a couple of years ago. Such nice people!

yea I mean really, the Enquirer? The Enquirer is full of crap! Who can actually trust it? Their news is mainly printed as a joke, in my opinion.
Charlie Chan 09-06-2005, 07:08 PM Have any of the news articles today indicated what kind of cancer Denver died from? The stories that circulated earlier this year indicated throat cancer.
It would appear that Mrs. Denver's denials of his condition stemmed more from a desire to maintain privacy rather than an attempt to set the story straight. I can certainly respect where she was coming from.
