Any way you look at it he was a mistake. If Esther Rolle had not quit and he married her and stayed on the show it would seem that he would have moved into the apartment with them which to me seems ridiculous since he had his own business. They only added him because they realized that they screwed up big time by firing John Amos.

Yeah especially when it was obvious they planned to do a show without a father. They defintely realized they messed up

That dude who played "Ben Foster" in season 4 in episode "Florida's Night Out" would have been a better replacement than Carl. I posted a topic a while back about that. The guy who played Ben was in "Let's Do It Again" with John Amos, played one of the henchmen. But you can't replace John Amos.

Why do you think he have been better? When he and Florida was at the table together she did most of the Talking.lol He barely said anything

That's true, but they seemed more compatible for each other rather than Carl. They both had recently lost their spouses, carried pictures of their kids, and he seemed like a warm gentleman.

Moses Gunn is a decent enough actor, but the whole premise was poor.

Why was John Amos fired? I thought he quit.

He was fired because he couldn't get along with the writers and producers.

Moses Gunn was let go because Esther Rolle left the show

Carl should've returned when Florida did. At least say that he died or they divorced or something.

I know, what was the point of this statement by Florida in season 6-"Me and Carl Bought it for you Michael" If there wasn't going to be any explanation as to why he wasn't with her back in Chicago

That's what pissed me off about GT in the later seasons. Why would Florida move in with Thelma and Keith if she was married to Carl?

So they did not even explain what happened to him?

When Florida returned for Thelma's wedding she gave Thelma a gift and she said, "Carl and I wanted you to have this". That is the last mention of Carl. What happened to him is left to our imaginations.

Uh uh! I would rather see Penny than Carl any day. Moses Gunn was good as Carl Dixon but not needed. I prefer his role on Little House on the Praire as Joe Kagan.

She had the cute angle going her. You (or should I say "I") felt bad for her when she got burnt with that iron. I loved some of the storylines that involve her. That is my decision. Penny all the way.

TVShowAnalyzer...er uh..Retro TV Collector has some very odd taste in TV characters. LOL While I'm at it, TV theme songs too.
