I believe this show came on Wed. nights, which was a bad time slot.

I think it was just on a bad night. It is a TGIF kind of show.

i think it was the time slot because it was up against American Idol..............Hey the first half of the season i was kinda mixed on the new episodes but everything atleast from my opinion that aired during the second half was some funny stuff.......

My sentiments exactly. A lot of times, it still feels like the show purposely sabotaged itself after getting off to a wonderful start. :(

I really liked the show the first couple of seasons but the newer episodes now it seems like the cast are just making up the scripts as they are going along. I think part of the problem was that all of Damon Wayans's relations started writing most of the episodes.
Also, they made JR completely stupid, Jay overacted too much by the end and I agree about Franklin- he worked in the show in moderation but not as much as he was.

the same old unfunny jokes over and over for example Jay doing the "all of this" sex dance thing and the constant jokes about Jr's big head. It got old a long time ago!

Two other running gags that came from Jay was how she did that sick chuckling when she thought sometihng was funny (sounded more like a witch's cackle than a cute giggle), and when she mentioned her role as 'the house' in a Wizard of Oz play once she was in.

Another running gag was how Franklin tried to get a laugh with his lame puns. Nobody laughed, because he was never that funny to begin with.

Jr's character was too stupid. I tried to watch the show many times, but always found myself clicking the remote. If I remember correctly the story telling with Jr and his girlfriend having a baby was, IMO, in very poor taste.

Teen pregnancy is an issue, but sitcoms should, IMO, stay away from the issue.

i think that My Wife and Kids changed too much in it's seasons. When they changed "Claire" after the first 12 episodes...then when Tisha Campbell was gone for like 6 wks to help her mother (but in real life she had a baby) and she came back obviously HUGE and Michael kept making all the "fat jokes" Then..when they changed Vanessa right after the whole pregnancy announcement. Personally, I liked Meagan Goode as Vanessa.

Somestimes, in sitcoms when you change to much---you lose your audience.

WHAT is with all the haters on Franklin? I thought he was pretty funny, although I do think the show went down in later seasons, but not because of him, more so because of goofy storylines that made no sense (like the RV one...or how Franklin was on the verge of Steve Urkel genius...he can be smart...but they took it too far,and then having too many extra characters,I do think less Tony,Vanessa & her parents,& Franklin combined would not have hurt, and more focus on the family as a whole and not just Micheal & Jay...it was called My Wife & Kids, not My Wife..also they were not consistant with their stories...Jay constantly switched jobs for no real reason..she even owned a restaurant at one time..but either way,I still watched it until the end

Too much damn Franklin! That kid annoyed me, hell, a lot of T.V kids after Punky Brewster annoyed me. The show was good but bored me after Franklin became the biracial urkel of the show, Claire's constant bitching about everything, JR being so stupid and getting his girlfriend knocked up(teen pregnancy is never funny, I don't know why they handled this as a big ass joke)

The first season was okay, but it was the later seasons that started to suck. The writing changed and the storylines seemed too silly.

I stopped watching it because the whole subplot of Jr's idiocy ruined it for me. Plus Tisha Campbell whines too much and I am just not in the mood for creative parenting, lol.

I think that the ridiculous plots and so forth towards the end helped it come to its demise also. To me, many of the later shows are unwatchable, with the exception of possibly one episode. I just think that Franklin was the first nail in the coffin. A number of his characteristics were ridiculous as well, not to mention IMO annoying, i.e. him and his "blinky shoes."

Franklin was part of the reason the stories had gotten so screwy. The kid was already a genius who had graduated from college, wasn't living with his parents, and apparently had no life, since he always hung out with the Kyles and even threatened to take-over as the "new" son.

Add that with his appearing in almost every episode of Season 5, usually with storylines that make me cringe just thinking about them.

I also hated how they derailed Jr.'s character by making Vanessa pregnant, and petering out on how they were supposed to be going to college. I thought the strength of the show was demonstrating how, in spite of the mistakes they made in their days, Michael and Jay were still able to put together a very successful family. Vanessa's pregnancy did nothing more than have the next generation repeat the same mistakes, which permanently crippled the entire premise.

I don't know what killed it, but I still continue to watch reruns on CW11.

i used to watch this show back in england when it was on and to be honest, like almost everyone here, i just didn't warm to it. it wasn't particularly funny and seeing as a few people saw this as the 00's answer to the cosby show, was rather contrived because it was never as funny and interesting in comparison. i'm not surprised it was axed though, as much as i wanted to lap it up and engage in it as i can, i just couldn't because it was so poorly written and the gags weren't exactly what you call humourous for a 'domestic' sitcom

I felt this way (the 2000's answer to the Cosby Show) when the show first began. I think the first season was great, and so was most of the second season. Though this comparison to me eventually started to erode and completely fade away as the show went on, as the quality of the series seriously started to go down into the toilet.

I think after the teenage pregnacy thing happened, the show went downhill. :(

I have been watching all the episodes on ABC Family lately, and the thing I think killed it was the pregnancy. Sure it was okay, but why would Jr. live in a garage with his new baby and soon to be (and then eventually wife)? I haven't seen the final episodes on ABC Family yet, but I'm looking forward to them. Either way, I think the show ended at a good time. :)

The first two seasons, the show was great! The third season is when they decided they wanted to shift from the 2000's Cosby to the 2000's Family Matters. The show tried too hard for laughs, the tired kid genius storyline, the couples (Michael and Jay/Vanessa and Jr/Kady and Franklin/Vanessa's parents) always in some sort of battle of the sexes and the goofy, unrealistic storylines. I am all for laughter, Sherman Hemsley's AMEN did that. The Deacon got into fixes but at least they were realistic and funny.

Jr's idiocy for one and when Tisha left to have a baby she was missed. The whole teen pregnancy thing didn't work either. How could Jr go from a teen with attitude when he rebelled against his Dad to becoming a goof.

I say all of the above but I pick mainly Franklin. I couldn't stand that little Urkle wannabee. Jr's idiocy and Damons' character being a complete jerk was the result of horrible writing. This was the most worse, immature show next to The Parkers.

OMG but how I hated Franklin with a passion....he and Charmaine from A Different World made me want to go out and shank someone!

Jr.'s parents-in-law were annoying too, particularly the disgusting Calvin (I will never forget him slathering a whole bottle of syrup on a HUGE plate of waffles and eating them like they were a frickin' sandwich!)

I agree on the stupidfication (made it up, don't judge me!) of Jr.

for me, it was definitely junior getting his girlfriend pregnant. even worse, after they returned from that cliff hanger and changed the actress who played her. most of all, they added her father 'the calvinator', who was a bully and a horrible character.
