Launch Radio Networks reports: Prior to its 2004 reunion with Sammy Hagar, Van Halen made repeated attempts to put together a project with original singer David Lee Roth. But bassist Michael Anthony told Launch that none of the Roth reunions came to fruition. "We tried to do the reunion thing with Roth, I think, three, four, I don't know how many times, you know, on any kind of level," he said. "At the end it was almost like, 'Let's just see if we can go out and play some shows and not even go in the studio,' and we couldn't even work that out with Roth. And at that point, I was so frustrated."

Roth and Van Halen parted ways in 1985, after which he was replaced by Hagar. Roth rejoined the group briefly to record two new songs for 1996's "The Best of Van Halen, Volume 1."

Since leaving the band, Roth has maintained a career as a solo artist and actor. He also wrote an autobiography called "Crazy From The Heat," Roth is currently an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) technician.

Van Halen is currently on hiatus after last year's tour with Hagar.

You'd think that Diamond Dave would have jumped at the chance to make a reunion work. But...I guess no dice. It would have been interesting to see Roth back in the fold.

I'm probably the only one on the face of the planet Earth who is glad that a Roth-Van Halen reunion project never transpired. Roth no longer has what it takes to be in Van Halen. Anyone around here buy Roth's last solo album, or a Roth solo album over the past 15 years? I bet nobody has. The reason for this is that Roth doesn't have the musical chops anymore. Heck, seven years ago he was doing shows in Vegas. Is this really the man you want fronting Van Halen? Is this really the man that can help bring Van Halen into the future? I think that most people think that once Roth rejoins Van Halen he will magically become the Diamond Dave of 1984 agian. That is not going to happen.

the two songs Roth did with VH in 96 were infinately better than anything he's done post-Skyscraper.

David and Eddie are like the cast of Seinfeld. They're okay on their own, but it's when they're together where lightning strikes. There's so much ego between the two of them, but I think if they both were willing to put the egos aside, they could come back and kick ass again.
