SEATTLE - Mary Kay Letourneau and her former sixth-grade pupil — the father of her two youngest children — will be married Friday night, "Entertainment Tonight" and "The Insider" reported Thursday.

Tents were being set up Thursday afternoon for the ceremony in a secluded spot in King County, according to the television programs, which obtained exclusive rights to cover the event.

A rehearsal dinner for bridesmaids, groomsmen and relatives was planned Thursday.

Letourneau, now 43, served 7 1/2 years in prison after she was convicted of raping Vili Fualaau, now 22. She was released last August.

The couple first met when he was in second grade. Their relationship became sexual when he was 12 and she was a 34-year-old married mother of four teaching at his elementary school.

I know what you mean, but at the same time, stats show that marriages that originate from an affair have a 90% failure rate. Also, she's now totally estranged from her daughters (they want nothing to do with her because she's continued the relationship). Just a very strange situation. I don't think I could give up my flesh and blood for anyone.

I think she's a pyscho. Here she was, a 34-year old married mother of four and sleeping with her 12-year old student. A teacher, in a position of authority. That's disgusting.

She gave up everything for this kid...her freedom, her four kids. She's a lunatic. She may have served her time, but that doesn't stop me from thinking that she's a piece of crap.

one thing I honestly don't understand is why everyone frowns at Vili and Mary, yet Celine Dion is one of the most successful female artists in history, and her relationship with her husband is basically the same thing in reverse. Rene and Celine have admitted that it was love at first sight, they just waited until she was of legal age before doing anything. Why isn't Rene viewed as a sicko for loving 12 year old Celine, considering she's a celebrity, yet Mary Kay will be criticized for her actions for life, when she's served her time.

Big difference. Rene was Celine's manager when she was young, and as she got older, their relationship developed. The same sort of thing happened with Elvis Presley and Priscilla. Now if Rene was having sex with 12-year old Celine, you'd have an argument, but that wasn't the case.

In the teacher's case, she was 34 and having sex with her 12-year old student. I hope that's not okay in your eyes. It's really sick and disgusting.

Yeah, I agree with Desperate - I think its screwed up. Also, the way I've heard the story (a couple of times), it was actually Celine that was smitten with him (????) - I guess another father figure deal. He thought of her more like a daughter I think and loved her that way. It wasn't until she was more like 18 that his hormones kicked in (unless they're covering it). But yeah, he had been married and Celine openly admits she was determined she was going to get him no matter what. Frankly she makes me gag (as with many Canadians - we got tired of it when she had her "royal" wedding here)!

I agree. It may not be exactly the same thing but I don't think Mary Kay should be ridiculed anymore. What she did was wrong and I, in no way, condone it but just give it up already. She did her time. Leave her alone. Vili's old enough to make his own decisions. If that's what they want to do, let them. We can't arrest her for wanting to marry a 21 year old. Mary Kay said it herself. She said that what they love about their lives now is that its nobody's business and we should accept that.

I feel really bad for the kids. As much as I feel like I'm always arguing against popular opinion and in favor of Mary Kay, I really do feel bad for those kids. I wonder what's going to happen to them when they get older. Who knows, though? I mean, we won't know until they get older. I can only hope that they're provided with as much normalcy as possible.

Yes, what Mary Kay did was sick and wrong, but she's served her time for it. If anything, the fact they got back together after 7 1/2 years apart is some testament to the fact that maybe those two really are right for each other, except she should not have done anything until he got 18.

Yeah. I think that's why I find the whole situation so interesting. I mean, they obviously see something in each other that makes each other happy. After all, none of us really know the entire story. We don't have to be RIGHT there seeing everything first hand - they've given interviews over the years and they've openly said they were having sex - besides - how do you figure Mary Kay got pregnant in the first place - immaculate conception? (That's NOT why her first name's Mary believe me)!!

Paternity tests proved he was the father of both her last two children. Nuff proof. If she was a man and he had been a girl - you'd be screaming blue murder over this and he'd be a pedaphile period. So is she.

Jesus Christ. I never said they weren't having sex. I know they were. I'm not an idiot, just so you know. The ONLY reason they called it rape was because he was underage, not because he didn't consent to it. He knew what he was doing and so did she. But it's not like we know how their relationship got there. Trust me, teachers don't have it easy. And there are so many kids willing to reach out to them. In a moment of weakness, anything can happen. But that might not have been the case with them. We don't know all the intimate details of what happened. I'm not saying it was right but come on now. I'd feel the same way if it were a man and a young girl talking about how much they love each other or whatever. It doesn't matter to me whether Mary Kay is a man, woman or kangaroo. The fact that they're still trying to work this out says something about the kind of people they are, crazy or not.

I don't care what she was feeling or what he was feeling. It is illegal, she's the adult - she knows better and a "moment of weakness" is no excuse. Teachers don't have it any harder than anyone else out there working (and frankly I'm so sick of hearing them moan and groan about their profession - they don't like it or can't hack it, then get out).
Just because this is a few years later doesn't make it any easier on her first set of children does it? This just brings everything back into the news and I'm sure they're going through hell right now being teased at school and everything else. You'll never convince me that this is right. Your last line makes it sound like they're upstanding, moral people. She not only went outside her marriage, but with a child - whether he was keen or not (and come on - most boys are driven by hormones at that age and have less control than what she would have). Its still inexcusable imo.

You do it, then.

The biggest mistake people make when judging teachers is that their day is over at two or three in the afternoon. It's not. Take into account that they have to make lesson plans, grade papers, document EVERYTHING they do in order to cover themselves, and deal with 28 different personalities in one room at once, five times a day when they're supposed to be getting through to these kids. Teachers do not have it as easy as everyone thinks they do. I have so much respect for my teachers because of everything they do. And not only do they do everything I mentioned, but they also work second and third jobs to make ends meet. Teaching is not a great paying job. So, think again the next time you tell somebody that teachers have it so easy.

Just because this is a few years later doesn't make it any easier on her first set of children does it? She had an affair with a child. Blah, blah, blah. I know the story. I've written a paper on it for my Criminal Justice class. I know it almost inside out. I never said that they were moral people because obviously, they're not. That doesnt mean they can't change. Just because someone made a mistake or broke a law or whatever, doesn't mean they can't change. But no one's willing to give them that chance. They want to get married...so what? Let them. If it makes them happy. Let them. If they're not happy, divorce is always an option. Let them do what they want. It's their lives. The only one who can judge them is God. If they don't believe in God, then oh well. Are we any better than they are because we didn't break a law? No. They're still people. Breaking a law or being a pedophile doesn't change the fact that they're still human beings who have children to raise and lives to lead.

My purpose of arguing is not to convince you or to change your opinion. I don't have that power over anybody. I just want people to see or get the idea that there are people out there that have different feelings about this than most other people. Some people are so close minded it disgusts me. I'm not saying that you are because I don't know you personally but it drives me nuts to have people tell me that I'm wrong because I have a different opinion than they do. I don't tell anyone their opinion is wrong, so why should they?

Last time I checked moderators were supposed to be more mature than you're being right now. I respect your opinion. If you don't respect mine, that's fine. I don't really care. At least show it with some class, Janice. Every time this discussion comes up, you always have something to say to me specifically because you don't agree with what I have to say. I don't expect you to agree with me but at least I conduct myself, for the most part, with as much respect as humanly possible. When people roll their eyes and call people pigs, its because they lack a better argument and vocabulary to express themselves properly. So, with that said, I'm done with you. And I'm sure I'm going to get a lot of flack for saying all this, but I don't really care about that either.

I love arguing my point because I can at least do it by myself. I don't need everyone and their mother backing me up. And no one can tell me that I don't put up a good argument. My views and opinions may be way out there to some people, but that's who I am. Either you like it or you don't. And if you don't, its really not my problem.

So, think again the next time you tell somebody that teachers have it so easy.?

There have been times in my career where I wish I had! I'm aware a teacher's day doesn't end at 3 p.m. - of course not. What I am saying, is that they still get WAY more time off in a calendar year than almost any other profession (other than acting, and other arts possibly - if you're famous and rich enough to afford to do it), therefore, the seemingly lower income is understandable. Yes, they're given PA days (or whatever you want to call them) for upgrading themselves. You aren't in the corporate world, but are expected to continually work to upgrade your skills. In the corporate environment, it is no longer a 9 - 5 scenario, and hasn't been for years. I worked 14 - 16 hour days for many years - and quite often another 6 hours or more over the weekend of which you're not paid overtime for (its "salaried"). Many companies won't even allow more than 2 weeks consecutive vacation time at once. You're not unionized like many teachers and do not have the power to strike for job security or higher wages, less hours. Yes, I'm a little put off with them lately - especially here in Ontario where it seems like for the past 10 years, some segment of teachers (private, public, elementary, high school, etc.) are threatening to, or are going out on strike. I lost a school year back in 1976 because of a teacher's strike. It was up to the kids to make up the lost credits and time. They're the true victims. What happened to teaching for the pure love of it.
You say they deal with all these different personalities while trying to reach them - you don't think you do that in the private sector in an office? Plus there, you're constantly having to watch your back, because the more successful you are, the more someone is out to cut you down or get your job. It was very cutthroat where I worked.
And as far as working extra jobs, again, at least they have breaks throughout the year where they can do this. My husband has worked two FULL TIME jobs for the past 17 years to make the kind of money we feel comfortable with so that we can invest for our future (I also worked full time up until a year ago and plan to return).

I am not saying teachers don't work hard or do a good job, I'm just saying that I always seem to hear their complaints, but they've got it no different than a lot of other professions, and in some respects a little better. We have a teacher living across the road from us and he has a lot more time on his hands than we do to do maintanence on his home and property.

I am not saying you don't have a right to your opinion - you definitely do, as do I - all I'm saying is that this story is being treated like a celebrity wedding in the media, and I am not about to celebrate it when it is still weird to me and I find it a slap in the face to her children. I just cannot fathom a mother turning her back on her own flesh and blood for this at any time. I'm not saying you're wrong in your opinion - I'm saying she was wrong for what she did, and I don't think she hasn't change one bit. Only my opinion.

I've only been stating my opinion. Geez......what a grouch!! Like we can't differ in opinions.

And if you feel ganged up on - that's your problem - just because there ARE others on this board that think differently than you doesn't mean anyone's ganging up at all! And stop acting like you're superior! Smileys are available for a reason - I guess communication is immature. Get over yourself already!

He was 12 years old. Their minds are ill-equipped to make decisions regarding sex. Adults are there to protect children. And a teacher to do that is such a flagrant abuse of power.

Exactly!!! Watch Dr. Phil sometimes - he'd absolutely freak on her about this! That's why I say, she was the adult and should have known to control him even if he was the one making the advances. He was a CHILD. If this had been a girl with a male teacher -- I don't think you'd be feeling the same way probably. Why is this any different?

It's almost like celebrating if Joey Buttafucco had hooked up the Long Island Lolita (but even with them, she was 16 - and by that time, should know better herself).

I never insulted you, like you just did with me....saying I'm immature, have no class and a limited vocabulary. Resorting to name calling and personal attacks indicates a lack of argument for the subject at hand.

I don't even recall having a discussion with you about this before. I know I've posted on a thread or two about it in the past, but sorry, I don't recall a specific exchange with you and certainly didn't single you out. I don't recall you, and that's the truth. Before you were ever a moderator, I remember thinking you were an okay person and I really did value anything you had to say. And you know, I still do. But having these little arguments or whatever you want to call them made me think twice about the amount of respect I had for you.

Not once did I get worked up in this entire thread. Maybe you just took what I said out of context.

Just as you can debate, so can I. No reason to start this garbage with me. I was completely respctful the entire time except for that last post. So, to be the bigger person here, I apologize for personally "attacking" you.

But for everything else I said, I don't feel that an apology is necessary.

I'm so tired of having to deal with certain individuals on these boards that think their opinions are superior to everyone else's because they're "adults." Why don't you just act like adults and discuss things like normal people. I can be very argumentative and I understand that's frustrating, but let other people have their opinions. Don't keep challenging them because you don't agree.

This isn't even about Mary Kay Letourneau anymore. Well, for me its not. It's about being able to say what I want to without being criticized for it and for anyone else who feels the same way because I'm sure someone on this board feels limited to what they can say on here.

Challenging opinions should be done with respect. I am guilty of being disrespectful, I admit that but so is everyone on this board. You just happened to be the one that took me by surprise. O.k. - no problem - I just wasn't sure if you were including me, because speaking for myself now, I think I usually do try to respest others opinions. If I throw in smilies and !!!!! marks, and all it's more the passion I'm feeling about the subject. I will admit, it is difficult sometimes to get your point across on the boards without it being misunderstood at some point.

That said, that's probably why you could have been coming across to us as acting superior with initial phrases like, "Oh God" or "I'm not an idiot" - nobody had said you were. Your opinion does count and you have the right to speak it. Just sometimes wording can make a difference - no matter what our ages. Believe me, the majority on these boards do seem to be younger than Janice and I, but if we didn't like that or respect it, we wouldn't want to be members. And we're both quite active members. I didn't put words in your mouth. I said you probably would hold it against me. Not that you actually would do so.

If either one of them were my relatives, I don't think I'd feel the way some of the people here do. I'd at least try to be there for my family member in the best way possible and try not to alienate them. I wouldn't stop loving them either, but if it were me that had an affair with some sixty year old guy and I claimed that I loved him, I'd want people to be there for me too.

everyone seems to be attacking Mary K but feeling sorry for Vili. Sorry, but it was Vili who foolishly waited 7 1/2 years for his "molestor" (I use the word loosely because apparently she didn't mentally scar him the way most child molestors do to their victims, if he loves her enough to marry) to get released from jail, instead of moving on with his life. Vili is 22, he is old enough to think for himself. Apparently he really loves Mary Kay and forgives her if he's waiting with a wedding band for her the moment he gets out of jail.

I feel sorry for Mary Kay's family more than I do for Vili, they're the ones who had to move to Alaska to escape shame, even though I don't see why they didn;t just change their last name. I remember Tonya Harding's husband changed his last name and suddenly people stopped harassing him.

I don't feel sorry for either one of them I do feel sorry for all the children involved. The 2 girls they have together as well as the 4 she had with her first husband. I am really surprised though that Villi is still in love with her and wants to marry her. Most 12/13 year old kids love someone one day and hate them the next. i dont think its right for someone to call her a pig when they dont even know her. I realize that what she did was wrong but look at them now. maybe it was something more than what we think and we need to respect that cause its really none of our buisness and its a waste of energy getting caught up over it

The fact that after 7/8 years he still has these feelings for her amazes me.

I agree - I don't feel sorry for Vila (or whatever his name is) nor her. I do for her daughters though.

I think he still has the feelings only because of it being considered a "forbidden love". Give him about 9 months of reality after the vows and he's probably going to be splitting.

I don't need to know her - she's a pig because of the stat rape when she was entrusted role model to kids and for what she did to her children.
And even if she was a family member, there's NO WAY I'd stand behind her - and her family didn't! The daughters haven't spoken to her in years and weren't at the wedding (her older two children were).

And I know I would do this because I do have a child molester in my family and wouldn't support a sicko whether they were flesh and blood.

that's interesting about the name Vili. However, I do think his strange name plays part of the fascination (or disgust) the situation gets, because people like to say "Vili". Sorta like how Joey Buttafuoco and Jeff Gilooley became more famous with their odd last names than they would've been with the last name Smith or Jones, lol.

Maybe Mary K. can marry Jeff and then Joey after she divorces Vili.

Mary Kay Fuulaau Gilooley Buttafuoco has a certain ring to it, doesn't it?

well, he definately was the victim at 12, but now he's 22 and he's still going along with it. The fact that as an adult, he's willing to drop everything he's doing and go back to the woman who served jailtime for him IS his fault, he may have been a victim 10 years ago, but he's just as guilty as Mary Kay is for still going along with her in the present-day.

one thing I honestly don't understand is why everyone frowns at Vili and Mary, yet Celine Dion is one of the most successful female artists in history, and her relationship with her husband is basically the same thing in reverse.

That is strange you say that because I was just saying the same thing at work today.

They are. Its scary. I was talking to a couple of 12 year olds a few weeks ago. They were smart kids. They really were. And they were telling me and some other people about a kid their age that had gotten a girl pregnant. The kids I was talking to were saying how stupid he was for ruining his life and all this stuff. Young kids know more than we think they do. When I was twelve I knew enough about sex to know that I didn't want to be a teenage parent or anything like that. Kids know a lot these days, people just aren't telling them how to use their knowledge properly.

That's an incredible assumption. adults having sex with children is considered rape for psychological reasons, and the fact that children don't know what they're getting themselves into regardless if they're being forced. only mary kay and vili have any idea what happened during the incident and what exactly the situation was. all we know is the fact that they had sex.

very true, kids aren't innocent like they used to be. This is the age where 13 year old girls are having abortions, the days of 12 year old boys doing nothing but playing baseball and 12 year old girls doing nothing but babysitting and having slumber parties are long gone.

Hell, it's been over a decade since I was that age, and I remmeber kids my age at the time were not innocent. Kids bragged on and on about how they lost their virginity, etc... AND THIS WAS IN THE FIFTH GRADE. Mary Kay should not have had sex with Vili, but Vili most likely wasn't just some baseball playing kid who had no idea what sex or the female anatomy was.

It really is true. I've seen a lot in my eighteen years of existence. I think my childhood ended when I was about 11. Between stuff that happened at home and in school, by the time I was 11 I'd seen more horrible things than some of my teachers had. I think this is why nothing surprises me anymore. What happened to the people that were supposed to help prevent things like that from happening? Like his mother or the school administration or the other teachers at the school? You're generalizing too much. I know many kids who are having good old-fashioned teenage years....my stepchildrens' kid for example. Slumber parties, camps, dance recitals, sports, etc. Their parents are very involved in their lives, and these are wholesome kids. They still exist.

The fact is this: Vili is in his 20s now and he decided to marry her. She accepted. End of story. That's all that should matter. If they thought their love was worth her going to jail for 7.5 years, then they better get married, or it'd all be for nothing.

There wasn't a jury in her case. Mary's lawyer worked out a deal where if Mary pleaded guilty to child rape, she'd only have to serve three months in jail if she obliged to take her medication for at least six months and participate in a sex offenders program after being released from prison. But of course, she violated those terms and the judge imposed the 7 and 1/2 year sentence.

no, it applied to all the boys in my class, WHEN I WAS 10!!!!

Boys have a higher sex drive than girls do, especially as kids. 10 year old girls generally are more wholesome-minded than the boys are. I used to hate it when kids would turn anything sexual (like the old Kit-Kat commercials "gimme a break" was changed into "gimme some [another word for cat]", this was sixth grade). This was 15 years ago, I wouldn't be surprised if todays kids are even worse.

only thing that offends me is the assumption that I think what Mary Kay did was "okay". I've said countless times that what Mary Kay did was wrong, but her and Vili are both consenting adults at this point.

My opinion on the situation, step by step, is::
what she did was wrong (get that WRONG)
she's served her time, she's paid her debt to society
she got out of jail
Vili dropped whatever he was doing to be with her
Vili happens to be of legal age now
Vili got down on his knees proposed to her
she accepted
they got married
end of story

if Mary Kay hadn't spent 7 years in jail, I can understand the ridicule, but she has paid her debt to society, and now that she's out of jail and that Vili is legal and apparently loves her enough to marry her, let them live happily ever after. Apparently HE LOVES HER.

Yes, there's an age gap, but you see bigger age gaps between older men/younger women all the time. If Mary Kay wasn't a pedophile, and the sexes were reversed with a 43 year old Vili and 22 year old Mary Kay, nobody would bat an eye. It's the same way people don't see anything peculiar about a 50 year old Bruce Willis dating an 18 year old Lindsay Lohan, but yet it's such a "midlife crisis" when 42 year old Demi Moore dates 27 year old (and it's widely debated he's actually 31) Ashton Kutcher.

The fact that she kept going back to Vili, be it as a kid or a grown man, actually shows that the two of them have staying power. And before anyone says that Vili is too young to marry because he's 22, my dad was 22 and my mom was 21 when they got married, and it lasted until her death. Vili is capable of being serious about marriage at his age, my parents were.

WOODINVILLE, Wash. - Queen Elizabeth issued a brief press release yesterday explaining that she did not attend the wedding of Mary Kay Letourneau and Vili Fualaau because she feared her presence would turn the ceremony into a media curiosity. Many royal watchers interpreted the queen's absence as a snub to the couple because the queen is thought to be opposed to relations between teachers and their students.

The queen's statement insists, however, that her absence was motivated by nothing more than a desire not to infringe on the couple's privacy. In addition, the statement noted, the queen's opposition to teacher-student relationships does not necessarily extend to teachers who marry their students.

Despite the queen's absence—and the absence of Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Britney Spears, Kevin Federline, and other celebrities who had received invitations—the wedding went on Friday night at the Columbia Winery in Woodinville, Washington, a Seattle suburb. According to "Entertainment Tonight," which owns the rights to the wedding and other personal details of the couple's lives, the bride was nearly two hours late for the ceremony, scheduled to start at 8:30.

"Mary Kay was distraught," said an "ET" spokesperson, "because none of the dozens of celebrities she had invited to her wedding elected to attend. She kept hoping that somebody famous would show up to lend credibility to what she was about to do. Finally, just after 10:00 p.m., she decided to proceed to the glowing-white wedding tent even though we had just received word that David Hasselhoff had checked into a local hotel under an assumed name."

According to "ET," the bride wore a Carolina Herrera white satin jumper, a high-fashion replica of the outfit she wore on her first date with Fualaau, a visit to a Chuck E. Cheese. The groom was "boyish-looking" in a Calvin Klein re-creation of the OshKosh B'Gosh play suit he had worn his first day in Letourneau's second-grade class.

Although the couple had met when Fualaau was eight years old, "ET" noted in the souvenir wedding program given to each of the three hundred guests who did attend the nuptials, "they thought it best to wait until Fualaau had mastered decimals and cursive writing before they started dating. Four years later, in the summer of 1996, they knew it was time to consummate their love."

That decision eventually cost Letourneau six months in prison. Her decision to continue seeing Fualaau after her release, despite a court order forbidding her to do so, cost her seven additional years in jail and her teacher certification. She was released last August.

During the twelve-minute wedding ceremony the bride and groom held hands and read wedding vows, which they themselves had written, after fishing them awkwardly out of their pockets with their free hands. Just before the vows were read, the six groomsmen raised small cartons of chocolate milk aloft and toasted the couple. Then the vows were read.

"You have walked with me through puberty, I will walk with you through menopause," said Fualaau, 21.

"You are in my heart and in my lesson plans forever," answered Letourneau, 43.

Following the ceremony the couple and their guests repaired to the reception hall next to the wedding tent. The hall was decorated like an elementary school classroom. The guests sat at tables of eight, which contained boxes of crayons and large white place mats on which the guests were encouraged to write or to draw.

The menu for the reception included an open pizza bar followed by a sit down dinner of Salisbury steak, french fries, and creamed corn. Dessert consisted of hot fudge sundaes and a slice of Snickers bar wedding cake. The winery, in return for being allowed to place its logo on the bride's and groom's wedding outfits, provided complimentary glasses of a twelve-year-old merlot that one guest described as "surprisingly large bodied and virile for its age."

Because Letourneau had anticipated a significant celebrity presence at her wedding, the event was surrounded by much secrecy. Invitations simply contained an 800 number, a user name, and a password. Guests were instructed to phone that number, using a touch-tone phone, and to key in their user names and passwords. They received a call the morning of the wedding, telling them where to meet the buses that would shuttle them to the ceremony.

Guests were required to arrive two hours prior to the ceremony in order to be strip searched. Cell phones and cameras were confiscated, and guests' hands were stamped with an image of a venus fly trap. Guests were advised that if they left the wedding or the reception hall, they would not be readmitted. All vendors were required to close fifteen minutes before the ceremony began.

In related news, Audrey Fualaau, 8, the daughter of Mary Kay Letourneau and Vili Fualaau, attended the wedding with her second-grade teacher. Audrey told "ET" that the she and the teacher are "just friends."

He was 12 years old. Their minds are ill-equipped to make decisions regarding sex. Adults are there to protect children. And a teacher to do that is such a flagrant abuse of power.

Well, technically, I think his mind is still ill-equipped...

but anyway, I'd like to think that by 12, kids know right from wrong about sex. If they don't, they're being too sheltered.

with the money Entertainment Tonight gave them for their interviews and wedding footage, it's safe to say the Fualaau family is gonna be set for awhile, unless they really like to live out of their means

after hearing so much about them, I decided to watch the tv movie on Lifetime yesterday about Mary Kay's life story, and my opinion on the story has greatly changed.

It is easy to paint Mary Kay as a predator and Vili as a poor innocent boy who lost his innocense, but that is not at all the case. According to the movie, Vili stalked Mary Kay until she had sex with him. He is the one who came onto her, she tried to refuse, but he harassed her to the point she finally gave in. Not justifying her actions, but the common perception is that Mary was an evil pedo pig who seduced her student, when it was not like that at all.

In a way, I actually came out feeling sorry for Mary Kay, her parents disowned her long before Vili came into the picture, and her ex-husband treated her like **** under his feet. It's one thing to resent her for breaking up his marriage, but it's another thing to not even allow HER OWN CHILDREN TO TALK TO THEIR MOTHER ON THE PHONE, you should allow your kids a relationship with their parents even if they were in jail. He did her dirtier than she did him.

Now I am not justifying her actions, but Vili Fualaau was not this innocent little boy that people paint him out to be. At least for Mary Kay's sake, I'm kinda glad they've had a happily ever after story, because she hasn't had the happiest life in any sense from what this movie depicted.

I had not idea the story was that complex.

Your opinion is the same. You've been defending her in your roundabout way all along (i.e....she was wrong, BUT. I don't condone what she did, BUT...) and saying that Vili wasn't some innocent kid.

She was dead wrong, and a 12-year old victim is NEVER wrong, even if he had a crush on her. She was the adult and in a position of authority and her students were entrusted to her care. It's wrong on so many levels, no ifs, ands or buts about it. It's terrible to blame the victim.

And yes, to the majority of people who understand how disgusting her actions were, she is a pedo pig. She's a PEDOPHILE! That's it. The laws are there for a reason, to protect the children. She was 34, and he was 12. Give me a break!

Who cares how tough her life was before. Lots of people have tough lives and bad marriages. They don't go around screwing pre-teens.

I take great offense to you saying I condone pedophilia. Where the **** do you get off saying that??? My older sister was molested by a babysitter when she was six years old. I think you owe me an apology for saying I think it's okay to molest children. Being called a pedophile supporter offends me as much as you hated being called a nazi.

out of curiousty, have you seen the movie? Even after she got out the first time, Vili kept calling her, showing up at her house, etc... he wouldn't leave her alone even after she tried to put him behind her. You keep thinking that Mary Kay was a teacher who saw a student, thought he was hot, pursued him and raped him, if you saw the movie, you'd know that was not exactly what happened. Like Vili said in it, "how did she rape me? Isn't rape unwanted?". Vili STALKED Mary Kay's family, he even confronted her husband and told him he doesn't deserve her.

It takes two to tango. This wasn't a typical adult molests child story.

I owe you no apology, so don't hold your breath on that one. And get your words out of my mouth. I didn't say you condoned pedophilia. You ARE, however, placing blame on the victim and you stated that you feel sorry for the convicted child rapist.

I don't think she thought he was hot and went after him. Again, don't tell me what I'm thinking. I don't care how it happened. She was the adult and he was the CHILD. It's wrong. She should have went to school officials and his parents if the KID was stalking her. You want to place some of the blame on him and feel sorry for her, go for it.

Takes two to tango? Unreal. There is no such thing as consentual sex with a minor. It's against the law, and I don't have to watch some stupid Lifetime movie to know the story. She screwed a pre-teen and she was 34. That's all I need to know. No sympathy for her and no blame for him from me. I'm glad our court system sees it the same way as I do.

my point was that Vili wasn't some clueless little boy that was violated. He knew that what he was having with Mary Kay was sex, and he continued to have it with her even after she got out for good behavior the first time in jail.

There is no such thing as consentual sex with a minor. It's against the law

Just because it's against the law doesn't make it never consensual. That's ridiculous to even think that.

People break the law all the damn time and know full well they are, and they don't remotely care because for some reason, they want to do it.

Anyone who was saying there's no way he could know what he's doing just because he's 12. Some 12 year olds my not know sex from a lollipop, but some know full well what it is and that they want it. Age has little to do with maturity like that. We're not talking about psyiological things here...boys can have a sex drive at 12 just like girls can start their period at 12, 11, 10, etc. Just because you can do it doesn't mean you have the maturity to know what to do with it. But it seems like he sure learned somewhere, just like many other boys and girls his age.

Of course she should have been. But where does it say that there has to be a victim to make something illegal? Just because in black and white it says you can't have sex with a minor doesn't mean the minor had to be raped if it did happen. He wanted her to have sex with him, but since he was 12 and she was 30 whatever, it was illegal.

Under statutory rape laws, there is clearly a victim. Nobody, as far as I knows, is claiming that this was a forced rape. Even though he was willing, he was still 12. His mind and decision making capabilities weren't fully developed, and he was too young to make a decision to have sex. It's more about psychological harm.

And I still maintain that if this were a 34-year old man having sex with a 12-year old female student and having kids, there would be an outcry heard round the world.

They might know right from wrong, but the hormones are so strong they don't care. It's like trying a cigarette or beer to them. The adult is still in a position to know better - I don't care if he was banging on her bedroom door in the middle of the night, if anything, she should have called his parents. She gave in to temptation just as much as he did, but being the adult, is still the main one at fault (I'm not saying he is a totally innocent victim) - but she is still a pedaphile, always will be, and it kills me that they're being celebrated even now.

Again, people wouldn't be saying the same thing if it had been a male teacher with a female student.

Fleet

Obviously, the adult is responsible for this. For one thing it's illegal for an adult to have sexual relations with a child under 15 or 16 (whatever it is) years old.

It was WRONG. That's the bottom line. I am angered that the wedding was paid for by the press, who should have shunned this whole thing. Basically, this marriage has been played out like some kind of fairy tale wedding, where these two star crossed lovers finally made it to the alter...but it's just wrong. It's child molestation, pure and simple.

There have been some similar stories circulating in the New York papers recently. Female teachers have been hooking up with younger male students, and it just sickens me.

It's wrong, pure and simple. There are many sexual predetors out there, and they're not just men.
