I know the woman who is singing it is named Ja'net Dubois, she played on the sitcom Good Times as the neighbor, Willona.

DuBois is also credited with writing it, which means she has been collecting some very nice royalty checks through the years.

I would love seeing this show again IN ITS ORIGIAL ANALOGUE FORM!!!

I guess the only way to do that is to MAYBE find some VHS tapes that someone has recorded it off analog cable in the 80s!!

When did VCRs come out?? -- Late 70s??

Betamax was introduced in 1975.

VHS was introduced in 1976.

Prior to this, there were also professional videotape formats that some people owned, like a U-Matic for example.

She may or may not get royalty checks, it was a different time back then.

Music royalties are unlike actor residuals. Songwriters have done quite well on royalties for decades. This has been the case since the 1950s, if not before. ASCAP is a MUCH better union than SAG-AFTRA.

U-MATIC was first sold in September 1971.It was
among the first video formats to contain the videotape
inside a cassette ,as opposed to the various reel-to-reel
or open-reel formats of the time.
Recording
was limited to 75-minutes.There was also the smaller cassette version officialy
known as U-matic S.Much like VHS-C
In the early 1980s,Sony introduced high-band [Broadcast Video
Umatic] format, and the 'original' U-matic format bacame known as low-band.
U-matic had difficulty reproducing red images,
so on-camera talent was discouraged from wearing red clothing that
would call attention to the technical shortcoming. The audio quality was fair,
until Sony improved it by eventually implementing Dolby noise reduction circuitry [using Dolby C]to improve
audio fidelity.

Dawn Lewis who played Jalessa on the show wrote the theme song to Different World but didn't sing it/
