View Full Version : Class President Debate - help!
Warm & Fuzzy 05-18-2005, 04:37 PM Tomorrow, our school will be holding a class pres and vice-pres debate.
Given that, I need to identify concerns as student at my school (in the prespective of a senior). I also need assistance as to what to ask the pres and VP candidates. If anyone can come up with 2 or 3 questions for me to ask, or some issues/concerns as a senior in High School, it would be the most appreciated.
Thanks in advance! :D

Thanks in advance! :DEvery school has different issues so you have to tell us about an issue at your school that you'd liked changed. then I can tell you how to phrase it.
Warm & Fuzzy 05-18-2005, 05:16 PM Every school has different issues so you have to tell us about an issue at your school that you'd liked changed. then I can tell you how to phrase it.Hi, thanks for your response!! This is what I have written thus far. It is only a draft, so it's not set and stoned. I plan to add more later. ;)
I would like to come up with three questions in regards to the three issues I mentioned [below]. Can you help me phrase them, please? :)

As a future senior at ****, it is not unusual to have concerns. One of these concerns includes the circulation of information around our school. To illustrate: Aside from announcements during prefect, and rumors from fellow classmates, many students aren’t given an opportunity to hear the latest news. How are students, (seniors, in particular), supposed to know, say – when college applications are due, or gather information if there is no means of [reliable] communication?
Another issue concerns students with no lunch periods. This is very inconvenient because students are then unable to see their counselors, whether it is to ask for a schedule change, discuss personal problems, or what have you.
Last, but not least, there is a major issue in regards to the bathroom-pass policy. It is ridiculous that teachers are not allowed to issue bathroom passes during class periods. What if there was an emergency? Four minutes is not enough for 4,000+ students to walk to the other end of the school and fight for the bathrooms.
vienna waits 05-18-2005, 05:18 PM yeaaaah student government here is for the people to go to conventions and have a title to put on their college applications.
Max Whittaker 05-18-2005, 05:21 PM Got a problem with bullies? That's an issue you might like to address.
Warm & Fuzzy 05-18-2005, 05:24 PM yeaaaah student government here is for the people to go to conventions and have a title to put on their college applications. Is that so? Probably! but I go to a rather peculiar school. The majority of us take school VERY seriously. We had to pass a stupid exam to get in.

What school doesn't have a problem with bullies?

Those all seem very well composed. I like.

BTW, thanks Max.

No doubt because you're all very smart and I wouldn't be surprised if you're going to an advanced school for more gifted people!!
Those questions you had Quench sound quite valid to me. Yeah - do they plan on having some sort of communication centre to post when applications are due, and other college entry issues. If so, who will do this - do they plan on a small subcommittee of the student council that will be responsible for it and interacting with counsellors for the information? What about a quarterly newsletter - would that be more effective?
Students that do not get a lunch hour - could they have time either before or after classes to meet with counsellors?
And that bathroom pass policy needs to be changed!!! That's nuts! Too bad someone can't make like they wet themselves in class to get the point across on that one!! I would hope seniors would be responsible enough to not abuse a quick bathroom break in class! It's a small disruption, but geez, you don't always know when you need to go!!!
Again, since you're school's a little different, don't know what other issues might be other than the usual for seniors - college entry or career decision making, etc..

Thanks for your help, Cathie.. again!! :D I think I will rephrase and incorporate some of your questions into my paragraph, if you don't mind, hehe.
Here are the questions I composed thus far. I need about a dozen more until I'm good to go. Haha.
How will you ensure that all seniors will get the needed information about college?
How will students without a lunch period be able to speak with their counselors? //counselors do not stay late afterschool, nor do they come in early..
What do you propose to do about the no-bathroom-pass policy?
How's that?
Oh, and I love your beaver, btw. ;)
