Summer shows are always "lame". This is nothing new. They don't put scripted shows on because people aren't watching.

NBC Sucks. I have sent an Email to the WB faces@thewb.com. and asked them to look at picking up American Dreams, it is better suited to their line-up anyway imho. Maybe if more folks email them, they will look into it. AD already has a loyal audience, and one that is substancial in WB standards. NBC has gotten worse and worse since losing Friends....I rarely watch anything on there anymore!
