View Full Version : Do you believe in and afterlife?
Howdoulikemenow333 05-15-2005, 01:18 AM Do you think there is and after life? There's got to be something on the "other side" we have lived and beleive in God or whom ever,I think after we die our souls will still live on,and I do beleive we have souls, it's hard to explain, but one day we will see God or who ever you beleive in.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 05-15-2005, 01:19 AM I don't believe in anything...in particular...I mean, I know SOMETHING has to happen. But what exactly? How can we be certain...
Max Whittaker 05-15-2005, 01:23 AM I do believe in an afterlife. It's a reflection on the life we lived, with more beauty, more vividness, and it is what we make it. There is also the greater being we know as God, The Great Maker, and all of his/her other human incarnations. This entity will care for us and guide us there.
Mr. Television 05-15-2005, 01:28 AM Yes I believe in an afterlife.
Belair 05-15-2005, 01:44 AM It against the beliefs of my religion to believe in reincarnation and the afterlife,so I dont believe in it.I reckon that once we're dead,we're dead. Its a morbid thought, but we came from the ground, and I believe we just go back there.
dandelion wine 05-15-2005, 01:46 AM I believe in an afterlife. :)

Hollow 05-15-2005, 02:55 AM it's real. i don't just "believe" in it.
dawsongirl 05-15-2005, 03:36 AM Our heart stops and we die. Plain and simple. If it weren't for people's memories, people would just be plain dead. The only reason they "live" after they die is because people remember them.
Courtnee 05-15-2005, 08:48 AM I'm not sure.......
Kay Scarpetta 05-15-2005, 09:28 AM Hmmm yes, I believe something happens. I don't exactly know what, but I think something does.
Superstar 05-15-2005, 11:42 AM I don't believe in anything...in particular...I mean, I know SOMETHING has to happen. But what exactly? How can we be certain...
I agree.
ABlairican Pie 05-15-2005, 11:50 AM It against the beliefs of my religion to believe in reincarnation and the afterlife,so I dont believe in it.I reckon that once we're dead,we're dead. Its a morbid thought, but we came from the ground, and I believe we just go back there. It wouldn't necessarily be reincarnation with some life to come, but the question of a life to come in what we call heaven, paradise, Valhalla, the Kingdom of God, or hell, limbo, purgatory, Hades, or Auburn, Washington.
MaydayMalonesGirl 05-15-2005, 12:19 PM No. I think you just die and that's the end of it.
Munsters#1 05-15-2005, 12:42 PM I believe we just die. We are born, we live, we die. It's the cold hard truth.
robyrob 05-15-2005, 01:20 PM yes, I believe in the aftershave, my favorite is Hai Karate!
EmoJoe 05-15-2005, 05:00 PM Yeah i believe in afterlife...i dont know what itll be like though but i dont believe that when you die- its just OVER forever.
Michael [hXc] 05-15-2005, 05:08 PM I honestly don't know whether I believe in an afterlife or not because it's pretty hard to imagine what it would be like (just like it's hard to imagine the idea that you at one point weren't born). my cousin's girlfriend Makayla believes in the afterlife to a very high extent (she follows all the old Egyptian religious customs, she's Egyptian). So i really can't say I believe in something I know nothing about. Everyone we hear about supposed afterlives from have never actually experienced it so it's only their personal belief. I really don't know and it's an interesting thought, but for now, all we can do is stick to our beliefs.
Fleet 05-15-2005, 05:25 PM I believe it exists for several reasons...
- What sense would it make for a child to live for only 4 or 5 years and another person to live 80 or 85 years? If there was no afterlife, does that mean the child only has 4 or 5 years of existence? It doesn't make sense.
- There have been cases in which someone was clinically dead for quite a while (like 30 minutes), went to what they say is heaven and came back. What makes it believable is that they say they met a relative in heaven who said a certain phrase which he only told his wife. After the clinically dead person is revived, he or she tells the mother the phrase and of course she is totally shocked because they never said it to anyone but each other. This has happened many times. Far too many to be a "coincidence."
Also, people who are "dead" before being revived hear and can repeat converstations in an emergency room. Someone without a heartbeat and breathing cannot physically hear anything.
There are many books out on this subject. I like "Embraced by the Light" by Betty J. Eadie and a few by Sylvia Browne, like "Life on the Other Side."
Howdoulikemenow333 05-15-2005, 06:32 PM I do beleive there's something after we die, we have a soul like I said,I was bought up to be Christian, but I was baptized in Russian Orthadox. We really don't have to be'angels" on earth, some religion like Baptist, christians we have to beleive in the Bible and can not do bad things,or we will go to hell. Those kinds of people I really don't care for, because who are they, just because there the man of the cloth.I HAVE BEEN to a lot of Chruches in the past, some preachers were really out-spoken about there beliefe's. 'Fallow god, beleive in the Bible,do good, and all the good stuff you will get in to the kingdom of heaven'The preacher would say,but if not your going to hell. If you were a littlt kid and you heard that you would be scared for life. But, what I beleive is what I beleive .I can't force no one to be my religion. Every body have there own opions. Thats good.

I agree with this as well. I believe that life is stronger than our physical mortal bodies, that there is something about us that is beyond our limitations.
I've had times of stressing out, especially since the passing of my mother last fall, where I had to take comfort in the Biblical promise that there is a new life
to come, in 1st and 2nd Thessalonians, two books that Lisa Whelchel pointed out for me to read. I used to be sidetracked by friends years ago who said there was nothing past death, but as of lately, I could not accept that assessment. What is life for if it's just the hum of electrical sparks in our nerve synapses? Of course no one knows what really lies beyond it all, but the Bible says it's something greater than we could ever hope, if that offers any clue. We use angels and harps and dancing on clouds to express the inexpressible.

Yes, it is true.

Brian Damage 05-15-2005, 10:44 PM There is a heaven and there is a hell. I believe that because I believe in Jesus Christ.

Oh my.
This is called faith.
If it was called a guarantee they would call it that.

did you even read what I quoted? When someone states they have a "cold hard truth" i expect them to be able to back it up with proof.
Yea, I know a litle bit about faith--I live by it.
Heart Shaped Box 05-15-2005, 10:51 PM I definitely believe in afterlife.

I highly doubt it.
And faith in what I might add?
...
Faith in myself and the power of .. blah blah, that is called confidence and distorting faith in oneself with faith in a higher power is just someone trying to justify themself. I didn't ask you if you believed in yourself and I don't think that was the question.

Janice 05-15-2005, 11:06 PM I believe in the afterlife. I need to. Most of my family is deceased. I'll go nuts if I think I'll never see them again. It helps me cope with my losses.

That's why I try to believe in it myself, but I'm a pessimist. -_-

You might want to look that word up.

I have faith in myself. I also have faith that another being greater than myself is watching out for me and the ones that I care about. That doesn't mean I don't trust myself to get out of a sticky situation. It means that I know I'll never be alone, even if the world abandons me.

Quick question.
Was I talking to you?
Good for you and your faith and all really, but don't act like I was questioning your philosophy or faith or whatever. I never asked you a thing and responding the way you did makes it seem like I was addressing a matter that pertained specifically to you.
No offense, obviously you can voice your opinion but it looks slanted the way you responded.
TripperFan 05-16-2005, 01:21 PM I believe in the afterlife. I need to. Most of my family is deceased. I'll go nuts if I think I'll never see them again. It helps me cope with my losses.
I'm with you. I'd like to believe in an afterlife too. I'm not sure what happens, but I'd like to think I'll be reunited with loved ones, and get a chance to meet some of the people I would have loved to while here on earth (I've got a lot to talk about with Jimi! ;) )
I'll just be doing it all without organs since I'm donating everything they can use. To me, that's true immortality - to have parts of you continuing to live and getting another chance - too cool! And studies are currently being done on donor recipients - apparently there's been many cases where they take on some traits of their donors - like a liking for certain foods or sports and music! How cool is that?! :)
dlemond 05-16-2005, 01:51 PM I have to add that I think the more important question was posed to us by one of the greatest American thinkers of all time.
Cher.
So I ask you:
Do you believe in life after love?
WELL???

Just thought I'd weigh in on my views. I meant no offense. :D

Thank you, Fleet. I believe that's the first compliment you've ever given me! :thudpile:

Yeah... could be. ;)
crystals 05-16-2005, 06:04 PM Of course I believe in the afterlife. Without an afterlife, there would be no purpose for life at all. I don't think it makes any sense to think that we are born out of nothing and our present life is our first entrance into life. It just doesn't make sense. There has to be something more.
If anyone is interested in looking into the afterlife further, the reincarnation forum is a good place to talk about past life memories, reincarnation and other supernatural stuff. I can't think of the URL off-hand, but if you do a search for reincarnation forum, you'll be able to find the site.

I feel that when we die, we get to decide how we spend eternity. There's alternate world with everything good that this world has and we can just choose where we want to live, what we want to do, et cetera. Me, I'd choose to be high at Studio 54 while dancing to disco music, snorting crack, and being screwed by some guy I hardly know. Now that's heaven.
Fleet 05-16-2005, 09:05 PM snorting crack,
Luckily, there are no drugs (or alcohol) in Heaven, because no one desires it. When you live in a perfect place, why would you want imperfect substances?
rusyd 05-16-2005, 09:41 PM I believe people go to heaven or hell. I hope I go to heaven. :)

I hope so. But if he worked in an emergency room and saw hundreds of overdose victims brought in each year, he probably wouldn't say that.
