View Full Version : Favorite "Late Night Show"
Chelsea 05-14-2005, 09:39 PM Please Note, I've omitted Nightline. It's a show completely in and of it's own class.
Mine: As much as I'm a Dave fan going back, honestly, I think right now Conan is generally doing better consistently. Dave still has quite a few good nights, but Conan's consistently good.
I've watched Jimmy Kimmel and Craig Ferguson - They're OK, but the shows could definitely use a decent amount of polish. They're generally OK though.
That leaves two: Carson Daly, and Jay Leno. First, let's talk about Carson Daly. I've sat through a couple episodes of the show, and honestly, that's time of my life I'll never see again. I just do NOT like his show. Believe it or not, I DO think recently he's gotten SLIGHTLY better, but he's still got a way to go before he could even catch Jimmy Kimmel/Craig Ferguson, let alone Conan or Dave.
Then there's Jay Leno. I admit, after not watching the show in years, I have obtained copies of some episodes in recent months from friends, curious to see how bad the show is these days. That said: There's one enjoyable segment on Jay's show in a given week. Headlines. It's the only tolerable thing on that program. Monologue is poor, Jay is, USUALLY a lousy interviewer (though occasionally he's surprised me)...Jaywalking is just LAME. If I were running NBC's late night division, I'd offer Jay severance to walk now, and let Conan go ahead and take over. I honestly would.
And that's not even factoring in 1992.

All that said, who's your favorite of the *current* late night hosts.
dandelion wine 05-15-2005, 09:28 PM It's a close toss up between Letterman and Conan.
Rhiannon 05-31-2005, 10:05 PM Leno!
moeee 06-01-2005, 01:42 AM Jay Leno
~*Emma*~ 06-01-2005, 02:24 AM Conan
Brian 06-01-2005, 01:43 PM Letterman. I also like Conan, too. Both are the best interviewers.
I only watch The Tonight Show for Monday night's Headlines.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 06-01-2005, 11:13 PM I love Conan. *does Max*
Cactus Jack 06-02-2005, 11:08 AM CONAN!!!:D
dlemond 06-02-2005, 11:18 AM I still like Letterman a lot, but at this point I think Conan would be my favorite.
The others are severely outclassed.
Chelsea 06-02-2005, 12:18 PM I think part of the reason why Dave's doing alarmingly badly in this poll is that Dave and Conan share a LOT Of the same audience (not all of one is a fan of the other, and vice versa, but a LOT are) - and while Dave's - though still easily the #2 behind Conan - on the downslope, Conan's just getting good.
barwars 06-04-2005, 10:18 PM I like both Letterman and Conan a lot, but Conan got my vote.
Leno is only good for headlines, and the occassional monolouge. Letterman and Conan are far better interviewers.
I like Kimmel and Ferguson, but neither hold a torch to Letterman or Conan.
Then again, neither of them hold a torch to Johnny Carson.
From best to worst, I'd rank them....
Conan O'Brien
David Letterman
Craig Ferguson
Jimmy Kimmel
Jay Leno
Carson Daly (totally unfunny.... a terrible host)
But Johnny tops them all.
vashti1999 06-04-2005, 10:39 PM I voted Letterman. He's been my fave for two decades now, going back to the NBC show.
Jonathan 06-05-2005, 01:30 AM I like Letterman and Conan, but I voted Letterman.
Zebra 3 06-18-2005, 03:38 PM King Conan rules late-night and Jon Stewart from The Daily Show is also worth watching.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 06-18-2005, 03:42 PM King Conan rules late-night and Jon Stewart from The Daily Show is also worth watching.
Yesss, I love Jon Stewart. I went to see him do stand-up a few months ago, it was awesome.
TheHappyBurgerMeister 06-19-2005, 12:14 AM I voted for Conan, of course! :)
belladiva 06-19-2005, 10:16 PM Conan :) I love the guy, but I've got a thing for scots to I'd have to say that Craig Ferguson is a close second with me.
sarastiles 08-14-2005, 11:09 AM I love the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson!
grinch 08-16-2005, 07:39 PM To me Johnny Carson will always be the King of Late Night.
Of the current hosts, David Letterman would be my pick.He still carries on Carson's 'Stump The Band" and was the only Late Night Show Carson made guest appearances on.Letterman also did the best and most sincere tribute to Johnny when he passed away.
Ireneparalegal 08-16-2005, 09:25 PM I miss Johnny Carson's show. Oh well. I love Jay Leno. Back in 1987 I went to a taping of the Arsenio Hall Show. That was THEE show I would watch. It was fun to watch alot of musical acts premiered on his show. I remember Mariah on there. It was so awesome.
Joeylova87 08-19-2005, 02:57 AM It's a toss up between Jay Leno and Conan.
bad_boy 08-19-2005, 11:31 PM I like Conan and Lettermen.
dougi 10-02-2005, 03:59 PM This was a good show
Tom Snyder on the Tomorrow Show think it was on after The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson
Actually there is a DVD to be released early in 2006 that will hilight all the new wave and punk bands that were interviewed on the Tomorrow Show with Tom Snyder.
Leno sucks
Letterman is still the best

Ronn Harmon 10-05-2005, 09:38 PM I think Carson Daly's show is worse now that he is on the West coast.
Smurf 11-27-2005, 02:11 PM Conan!! :loveya: :conan: :eyes:
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 11-27-2005, 06:42 PM :conan:
hermione4586 12-28-2005, 11:03 PM I'm a fan of the NBC late night lineup. Jay is my favorite, then followed by Conan. I can't stand Letterman all that much. I don't care for Carson Daly's show, and the others I haven't ever really watched.
Wings#1ShowPeriod 01-08-2006, 12:18 AM My favorites are Conan and Kimmel. I voted Kimmel to give him props..
Lexx82 01-23-2006, 08:28 PM Conan o Brien EASILY takes this
cpmaz 01-28-2006, 02:16 AM King Conan rules late-night and Jon Stewart from The Daily Show is also worth watching.
If Jon Stewart had been part of the poll, he would have gotten my vote.
Of course, if Carson was still around, he'd still be King - I bought a DVD collection (The Ultimate Carson Collection, or something like that) last week, and while a lot of the material is dated, it still made me laugh out loud. A lot.
Only the Daily Show does that with any regularity, and Conan and Letterman occasionally. Leno never does, and neither do the others.
