View Full Version : Lucille Ball Movies
msuzanne69 05-13-2005, 10:31 PM I'm still new to posting on this message board, but what was your favorite Lucille Ball movie if you've seen any?
I've been trying to come across more DVDs as they come out... I just have Yours, Mine & Ours, Fancy Pants, Sorrowful Jones, and Stage Door.
TripperFan 05-13-2005, 10:34 PM Without a doubt it would have to be The Long, Long, Long Trailer with Desi. That thing was a riot - especially if you've ever tried taking a vacation hauling a big-a$$ trailer with you!
Kazza 05-13-2005, 11:10 PM My favorites Lucy movies are 'The Big Street' and TLLT.
msuzanne69 05-14-2005, 01:18 AM Without a doubt it would have to be The Long, Long, Long Trailer with Desi. That thing was a riot - especially if you've ever tried taking a vacation hauling a big-a$$ trailer with you!
Yeah I've seen a couple previews for some of Lucille's movies with Desi and they kind of remind me of the hilarity between them as husband and wife like on I Love Lucy. I haven't seen those out on DVD yet though. :(
Kazza 05-14-2005, 02:28 PM There are DVD copies of TLLT on E-bay but they are bootlegs :(
msuzanne69 05-15-2005, 06:47 PM On Amazon.com if you look up "Lucille Ball" and they list some of her older movies on DVD, that aren't currently released but if you sign up your email address to get alerted when they are released, that counts as a vote to the studio to release it and the more people that vote for it and the higher the demand it is, the sooner it might be released.. :D
Larry Surrell 05-15-2005, 07:32 PM I recorded Forever Darling and The Long Long Trailer from Turner Classic Movies and made my own DVDs. My copies are not for sale or auction on Ebay, however.
I'll still buy the official DVDs if they're ever released.
msuzanne69 05-16-2005, 04:07 PM I really wish I had that channel! :(
BewitchedForever 05-17-2005, 02:55 PM Stage Door is my favorite at the moment! I also love Without Love, and The Long Long Trailer. Yeah I am a fan of Forever Darling too!
Tweety 05-18-2005, 06:56 AM "Yours, Mine and Ours" is also a fun movie to watch...starred Lucy with Henry Fonda... Lucille Ball is a widow with eight children and Henry Fonda is a widower with ten kids... And although the plot has some flaws, I like the performances... this movie was made in 1968... Fonda plays a Naval officer and Lucy plays a Nurse who works on the base where Fonda is stationed.
I like when each of them is trying to figure out how to tell the other (while they're dating) how many kids he/she has.
We have this on DVD... it's a nice Sunday afternoon movie
msuzanne69 05-18-2005, 01:35 PM Yeah, that movie amuses me :)
TheLandfordLunchBox 09-12-2005, 05:54 PM I love "Yours Mine and Our's" and "The Long Long Trailer"
LunarSpecimen 08-01-2009, 06:20 AM I'm sorry for bringing up an old topic, but considering that I can't find any other recent post concerning movies (at least on the I Love Lucy board), I wanted to bring this back up.
I'm a bit picky when it comes to movies, but out of the bunch my favorites are the Long Long Trailer, Forever Darling and Yours Mine & Ours. Those three are funny in their own way and Lucy just looks beautiful in them.
However, I find that people aren't giving enough credit to Lucille Ball's movies as they should be. Despite her singing voice dubbed (as I later found out in the credits) and changes in quality, once you see some of these movies, they really are a treat to watch. The problem is, they are NEVER shown on television. Turner Classic Movies, one of the few channels left that hasn't been plagued with nonsense reality garbage and pointless specials, sometimes airs a movie featuring Lucille Ball, but not often.
For example, in March of this year I happened to catch the Dark Corner (1946) that featured Lucille Ball as a private detective. She did a great job, even as a dramatic actress. I was watching a clip taken from Turner Classic Movies on Youtube that had Carol Burnett commenting on Lucille Ball's movie career and the people she inspired. Of all the clips they put in, I wanted to SEE the movies with Lucy. Now looking back at her career, she really worked hard and that only proves that people today still love her dearly some 20 years after her death. I really don't consider her earlier movies "B" movie quality with the exception of a couple. If you guys get the chance to see movies like "The Fuller Brush Girl", "Sorrowful Jones", "Lured", and "The Facts of Life", don't pass them up. The problem I sense is no DVD release and no advertising.
We may very well accept that Lucille Ball did great in both television and in the movies, and was much more than a ditzy redhead on I Love Lucy. Most of the famous actors and actresses enjoyed being with her. Bob Hope, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Frank Sinatra, Carol Burnett, John Ritter, the list goes on. Every once in a while I hear about someone talking about her bad side of life and how she went around certain things as a workalcoholic. Before 'ANY' of you say that sort of behavior, if Lucille Ball was really that horrible, would all these other legendary actors and actresses like her? No. But they did like her, and that proves that she worked hard to reach her legendary status that still stands today.
Besides, she made it to the top of Dead Celebrities a while ago based on how many people liked/disliked her. The stats don't lie, correct?
dawsongirl 08-02-2009, 02:37 AM Lured was out on DVD at one time. I supposed it's out of print now, considering it was on of the first DVDs I bought, and that was back when the only DVD player I had was in my computer.
I have a bunch of Lucy's movies (most I got from AMC back when they showed classic movies). All are pretty good, but my favs are TLLT and FD. I could watch TLLT over and over and over again.

The ones in red are favs. At one time I had The Magic Carpet, but I taped over it (that was a baaaaad movie). I think I had Critic's Choice and Yours, Mine, and Ours at one time too.
Benno123 08-02-2009, 10:10 PM All of the films Lucille Ball made with Bob Hope are available on DVD. The Facts of Life was available in a Bob Hope box set, and Critic's Choice was available in the Lucille Ball movie set. Sorrowful Jones [/U][/U]I have on a 2-fer with another Hope film (can't remember which one), and of course Fancy Pants as well.
Yours, Mine and Ours is a pretty common DVD, and it shouldn't be hard to find. I also have The Dark Corner on DVD which was an interesting film, and out local library use to have Lured on DVD as well. I think I was able to transfer The Fuller Brush Girl to DVD without any problems, though my copy of The Affairs of Annabel I had issues with. (I would love to see a DVD set of Lucy's mid- to late-1930s RKO films like the Annabel series as well as Five Came Back and other films be released. Maybe someday ...)
Schmoopie 08-02-2009, 11:22 PM Probably Yours Mine and Ours, although I also love "The Long Long Trailer"

treky 08-04-2009, 02:22 AM of the ones I've seen, I gues "THE LONG, LONG TRAILOR".
LunarSpecimen 08-04-2009, 09:27 PM I guess that's a favorite among Lucy/Desi fans.
I feel that Forever Darling wasn't bad either, but critics too often pull that one down because they probably didn't find it as funny as the Long, Long Trailer.
Tap Dancer 08-27-2009, 10:31 AM "Yours, Mine, and Ours" and "The Long, Long Trailer" are the ones I remember best. When I was younger, I used to rent the old Lucille Ball movies on VHS. I wish they'd put them on DVD already. I remember really liking "Seven Days' Leave," which I haven't seen in probably 15 years.
Scoobiedoo30 08-27-2009, 02:55 PM Has Lucille Ball Movies ever been on TV
Benno123 08-27-2009, 05:30 PM Has Lucille Ball Movies ever been on TV
Her films appear on TCM quite often. While several of them (DrBarry, Trailer, Yours Mine Ours) seem to air more often than others, if you keep an eye on the channel's schedule you may find other appearances of hers. These include not just films where she starred but also was a supporting actress. (Every now and then a film like Five Came Back seems to make its way to the schedule.)
