Have you ever bought a low priced DVD player that said it would play DVD RW format but when you put in the disc you get nothing? For most dvd recorders you can initialize in 2 formats hence record in 2 formats VR format and Video Format, With most recorders the VR format can record DVD RW and in this format you can edit out the commercials and make it look like a pro recording, However in the Video format you can record on R discs R disc=single copy only meaning you can record once only on this disc format and with very limited editing, however with the RW format you can copy over and over time and again, with R discs you can finalize the disc only oince and thats it but with the RW disc you can finalize the disc and unfinalize it as many times as you like, finalizing a disc is needed to make the disc playable in most dvd players but once finalized you cant record anymore on that disc so to record again on an RW disc you need to unfinalize it once an R disc is finalized its sealed meaning you cant open it for recording ever again.
Now with these dvd players that say they can play rw discs which they can they dont tell you that most of them play RW disc only recorded in video format not vr format, so if your going to edit commercials like a pro u need to record RW disc in VR format and then you can copy to a permanant more acceptable format for all dvd players which is The R format however to do a copy from a dvd rw in vr format to a dvd R you will need a player that can play a disc recorded in vr format sony has a nice one thats great for doing these kind of copys its at wal mart for $74.97 and it is so worth it. If all of this seems confusing to you then can you imagine how confused I was trying to figure all of this out.
GOOD LUCK.
