Dogs are such a big part of our lives and culture, I thought it would be nice to honor our best buddies. Please feel free to post pics of any dogs, or your dogs especially. Also, any verse or poems in their honor!

This is my dog Shadow in one of her rare relaxed moments. She has a lot of energy for a 10 year old!

You should all feel honored. I have chosen to share her cuteness with you. It is a rare treat. Relish it, and be grateful!

Here's my favorite dog Nova who recently passed away :(

He wasn't my dog, but I saw him every summer at the cottages my family goes to on the lake. I'm really going to miss him this summer.

I've read that poem before. As beautiful as it is, it makes me cry, so I won't be reading it again anytime soon. Animals really touch our lives. My little Persian feline just turned 16 and I dread the inevitable. He's my buddy.

Yeah - that poem is universal to all pet lovers. I can never get through it either - I just copied and pasted the link as I didn't want to get going!

Hopefully you'll have a few more years with your buddy. I had a cat who lived 20 years (got him when I was 14 and basically grew up with him). We buried him next to my husband's beloved dog who was hit by a car when he was barely a year old.

Thankfully the great memories they give us last forever ;)

I know how you feel. I've lost a lot of animals before and everytime one dies it feels like you're losing part of your family. I have a dog that will be 11 in July and her health is starting to fail. I dread it too.

As tough as it might be for you, if you can, be there at the end with them. I did that with my cat (he probably could have lived a while longer, but he really didn't have a good quality of life - he was almost blind and deaf, had arthritis, and was losing weight rapidly. I'm sure his organs were beginning to fail. I didn't want him to suffer so decided one day to take him in. As we drove there, I held him wrapped in a blanket and he looked up at me as if to say that it was o.k. - he was ready and knew it was his time. They let me stay with him when it happened. I held him and talked to him and kept my face near his so that I would be the last thing he felt, heard, smelled and saw when he passed. He went so peacefully and calmly. They let us say our goodbyes and stay in the room with him until we were composed enough to leave. We took him straight home and buried him in the backyard while he was still warm in the warmth of a sunny, September afternoon. I wouldn't have done it any other way. It was tough on us, but I did it for him. Geez, that was ten years ago and I'm crying now again just writing this.
I just hate thinking of them going alone without family there to comfort them.

The dog I had pryor to this one sort of died that way. She had been sick and died in my arms at the Vets. I had held out hope that she would get better but deep down I knew. Pets really are a blessing and they sure do brighten up our lives. I don't know what life would be without them. I know I have many happy memories of my pets, whether its just running around with them or taking them for walks or just spending time with them.

I love wolves! They are one of natures most majestic creatures! I hate stories like Little Red Riding Hood, which exist for the sole purpose to brainwash young children into fearing wolves.

My old school chum used to live around a lot of coyotes. He would tell me tales that would leave me enthrall for days! Late at night, when I would sleep over, we would hear their calls. Sadly, I never saw one. And I think the area has been cleared away for housing.

Your Pomeranians are adorable. I almost bought me a Pom a couple months back, but instead I bought another Chihuahua. That brings my count up to four. lol

Blue&White Male Chihuahua- His name is Blue
Chocolate, Tan,and White Female- Her name is Cocoa

Picture#2: Is my first little girl that I got and her name is C.C.

Picture#3: This is my baby... She follows me everywhere and doesn't like anyone besides me. Very spoiled! Her name is Kitty.

With the couple that has pictures on the side... Those are just their baby pics not other dogs..

Yeah, I'm a little crazy. Last week they all swam with me in the swimming pool...

Okay, I just cried my eyes out reading that. I can't imagine having to go through what you did. My husband knows he'll have to take our little guy in when the time comes. I just could never ever handle it. I'm terrible with good-byes. I've not gone in on the last day of jobs because I couldn't handle saying good-bye to co-workers. I don't even go to gravesites. I can't handle certain things.

Is this your little guy Janice? Too cute!

Yeah, its a killer when the time comes. The worst part was a month to the day I had put Smokey down, another cat of mine, Finnegan was only 14 months old and diagnosed with Feline Leukemia. I couldn't believe how fast he lost weight in two months and we kept doing tests on him (the first one was for FL, but it didn't show up in the blood tests). When they tested again 6 weeks later it was obvious - and beyond help. I had to have him put down one month to the day - Oct. 13. Then we moved, and in early February I had to have my rabbit put down for an inner ear problem that gave her vertigo and couldn't be fixed. I couldn't stay for those two. I felt like the Grim Reaper by that point. Meanwhile, I had just adopted 3 new kittens (the persian, maine coon and himalayn between Dec. and Feb.).

Ahhh - what a sweet family!! I love Chihuahuas and know someday we'll have one too. I used to know a couple when I was a show handler, the president of the CKC had two - named Eloise and Brown Sugar. I just loved Brown Sugar - looked a lot like your C.C. and could do mule kicks! A real character! Kitty sounds a lot like Eeka - a real princess and mommy's girl! She's really protective of me - like Minnie is with Sharon Osbourne. I never liked Poms before ours - it was my husband how INSISTED. I wanted a golden retriever because we're in the country. I said if we're getting small dogs, then I want more than one so there's no separation anxiety and it worked. Those two are inseparable! Besides, the male, Bailey, thinks he's a big dog anyway!

Here's a pic of a helpful one!No, that's just the driveway. The property is on two acres of what was mostly dirt/mud when we first moved there. It was raining the day we moved in (and there were five dogs and one cat back then), so the carpeting looked great for about five minutes. Since then, not so much.

 Yeah - in the battle between carpets and dogs, the dogs always win!!

I just put down cheap stuff now. I'd go to hardwoods, but my female pom has neurological issues with her walking (from scar tissue from seizures), so she slides on ceramics and hardwoods and hates it. We need the carpeting for her traction.

Entrepreneur Creates Baby Wipes For Dogs

MARINA DEL REY, Calif. – Want more proof pet owners treat their pooches like children? An entrepreneur has created “baby wipes” designed to clean dogs’ poopy bottoms.

The so-called TushieWipes are eight-inch-by-seven-inch cloths which contain a cleanser formulated to remove clumps of feces from pets’ behinds.

Inventor David Goldberg says he came up with the idea after receiving numerous inquiries from pet owners who wanted to use his other product – an antibacterial wipe for pets’ paws and fur – on their animals’ rear ends.

He says both dog and cat owners complain about the messes caused by pets tracking their “business” onto furniture and carpets – especially animals with long or bushy fur on their backside. The TushieWipes contain a potpourri-scented deodorizer to refresh the junk in the pet’s trunk and Goldberg says they can also be used for other “back door” issues like when female bitches go into heat.

DAMN!!! Now why didn't I think of those!!!

Beats the rubber gloves from my haircolouring proudcts that I've been walking around the neighbourhood with!!

The neighbours must be thinking I'm either providing free rectal or prostate exams or am just the neighbourhood perv!!

I am, however, concerned about the last line of the article. I know they already have sanitary napkins for bitches (the four legged kind in this case), but when they say "back door"......are we talking about contraception here? I love my dogs, but I'm not about to sit there and hold a wipe into place while he has his way with her and I don't think many people would be willing to either! Although I've certainly heard stranger things when breeding dogs!!

(Didn't the Man Show do a skit on doggy condoms a while back?)

Did you ever see the Twilight Zone episode entitled "The Hunt". It deals with just that!

The Hunt (Episode 84, Jan 26 1962, 25:01 minutes) - Hyder Simpson (Arthur Hunnicut) is an old hillbilly out in the sticks, living alone with his wife Rachel (Jeanette Nolan) and his trusty hound Rip. Despite the protestations of his wife, Hyder heads out after supper with Rip for a spot of 'coon hunting. Rip is really ace hunting them 'coons and soon enough has one bailed up, but a quick slip and the 'coon is heading for water with Rip in hot pursuit. When Rip don't reappear on the surface of the lake real quick, Hyder is in after him. Next morning Hyder and Rip reluctantly head home fearing the worst of tongue lashings from Rachel. Thankfully, she is mourning and in no mood for tongue lashing anyone. But when Hyder finds out who she is in mourning for, and finds himself on an unfamiliar walk with Rip in tow, he is just a tad dumbfounded. At least until he gets to the gate and finds out that this is Heaven and - dogs ain't allowed! Or is it and are they really? This is a nicely handled episode from the last season of the show, nothing too memorable in the acting stakes but with a nice bit of down-to-earthiness about it. Directed by Harold Schuster.

Really!! Boy I thought I had seen just about every Zone, but I cannot remember that one! I'll watch for it though on SciFi!! They usually show the "more popular" eps, but I'll keep my eyes peeled - thanks!
I couldn't find that email I got so I'll do a google as soon as I get a chance. I liked it almost better than the Rainbow Bridge. Something about how human heaven wouldn't allow him to give his dog a drink out of a fountain, so he chose a "lesser" afterlife, where they would give his dog his own fresh dish. Beautifully written from the heart!

She should look into certain breeds depending on what makes her allergic. Some people don't have problems with poodles, bichon frise and one of my favs, the Chinese Crested (hairless version)!

My elderly aunt got a dog from the rescue after her husband died 7 years ago and he's her whole life. Its been proven that pets, and dogs in particular add years to your life! She's 84 and is going strong! :)

He is more then me. I always liked dogs and wolves. And cows, I always thought cows were cute. :cow: I never really had a thing for rodents though.

I hate the hairless cats (Sphinx) too - they look like newborn hamsters or something, but the Chinese Crested dog is actually pretty cool looking!!

Yeah, there is several different breeds that people whom are allergic to dogs can have.

Bichon Frise, Maltese, Yorkshire Terriers, Soft Coated Wheaton Terrier, Cairn Terrier, Italian Greyhound, Brussells Griffon, Poodles, Basenji, Shih-tzu, Schnauzer, Airdale, Welsh Terrier...

That's just a few. I know these pretty well because I work at a Pet Store and I get people that come in asking specifically for nonshedding/hypoallergenic(as much as a dog can be) dogs.. I love puppies. :)

Yeah - they're are - Wheaton Terriers are ADORABLE too! I have a friend who just adopted one and it was because his mother is allergic normally.

I think all Schaunzers are good too.

I could NEVER work in a pet store! I'd be taking home everything and I'm bad enough as it is!! Its one of the reasons I could never become a vet either.

Tell me about it... I fell in love with a Wheaton Terrier from the store and he's actually at my house right now I'm... "Babysitting", really... lol I wanted a Brussells Griffon I fell in love with, but she's a popular dog so they won't let me get her.

Yeah unfortunately when the breed becomes popular, the price can triple (which is ridiculous) and the quality of pups can go down. Brussels are cute tho - I can't help but smile even thinking about that one that played on Spin City that "was suicidal". He'd sit so still that he actually looked like a little alien or something. I wasn't sure if it was a hairy pug or what!!

Wheatons just always seem to keep their puppy looks!

Yeah it's annoying. My comp doesn't have any of the right programs to do resizing. Thankfully Tripperfan is nice and offered to help me out. He's still a puppy but he's not going to get much bigger. Who would have thought two ugly breeds of dogs could form such a cute one? No offense to anybody who thinks that those two breeds are attractive.

Mutts make some of the cutest dogs!!! They're also usually healthier because they haven't got the inbreeding traits that purebreds can have.

Its true. We had a Cocker Spaniel - had a heart murmur. Then had a Yorkshire Terrier (came from championship parents) - died when he was only four of "unknown causes" - something with his liver.

Now, our poms, the male had to have spinal surgery a couple of years ago - he was in terrible pain, almost crippled and it cost over $5000. Our female has Epilepsy. Both of them have luxating patellas (kneecaps that pop out of joint easily) and COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) because of their tiny size. I think its a crime breeders continue these defects.

We have "Yuppy Hours" here in NC. Just like "Happy Hours" In the spring and fall, it's too hot right now, at a private Pet Boutique on their lawn from 4p-7p. Everything is complimentary. Donations are taken for pet adoptions, neutering, spaying, etc.....Here's a picture from Zion's first. The pet bakery "Gourmutts" supplies everything for the pets and the owners of the pet boutique supply all the beer, wine and food for the adults.

He loved to cool his paws in water as a puppy

I love the yuppy hours. The same store, for halloween. arranges with the shops and eateries on the street to allow the dogs to trick or treat in their costumes. The cake the bakery made for the yuppy hour, I almost mistook for a regular cake it was so beautiful. It was in the shape of a bone but it was on the table of food designated for the dogs. It was made of different types of oats, etc.... so the baker said we could have actually eaten some. The pet bakery not only smells good, but the treats/baked goods are fabulous.

The one thing I can say positive about NC is that they have plenty of activities for pets. I get a social calendar emailed to me from Zion's trainer, and his social calendar has more on it than my own.

Doggy Daycares are also a flourishing business in this area. They actually have waiting lists just like regular childrens daycare.

I'm praying that one day we will be able to claim our loving family members as dependants.

I saw your beautiful babies on dogster. :) My great aunt and uncle used to breed pom's. I wish I could handle more than one Akita. Zion is too spoiled and he's and alpha dog so we know that aint happenin. His favorite friends in the neighborhood are a dalmation, lab, and retriever. I'll have to get some pictures of them together and put them on dogster.

I was raised with Shepherds but now I will forever have an Akita. Because of their dominance and independance, the early training is hard work but they are clean, quiet, and loyal. They have to be socialized consistently very early. I never had to crate or paper train Zion. Akitas aren't barkers unless they sense danger or strange activity. So all the neighborhood dogs can be barking for no reason, and he won't join in. My next door neighbor is a police officer and he says when Zion barks, he looks out his windows and doors.
