I was just thinking I wonder why the ABC comedies According to Jim, My Wife and Kids, George Lopez, 8 Simple Rules & Less Then Perfect haven't come on DVD yet? They all have had 3 or more seasons I assume there pretty popular. I wonder why they haven't yet had a DVD. I think if they did get a DVD they should do it before the new season starts.

Also there's a couple of other recent now cancelled shows to such as Life With Bonnie. I only saw 2 episodes of Season 2 it was pretty funny and I hear from a few friends when David Duchnovy was a weatherman in Season 1 they were hillarious. I'd love to see these episodes.

Jim, Kids, and Rules will be or might be coming to local syndication soon. Jim in 2006, Kids in 2005, and Rules possibly in 2007. I think maybe after that, they'll come to DVD. Because I'm sure they want high rating in syndication. Usually current sitcoms don't come to DVD as fast. Dramas are different, since in syndie they only air on weekends.

I don't understand why more sitcoms don't come to DVD before syndication. I remember you calling Bernie Mac and Reba coming to DVD a "mistake", I don't agree though. There are people who want to own sitcoms on DVD as soon as the season is over just like they do CSI and Alias.

I've never been a big syndication person myself. Before DVD, I hadn't really watched Seinfeld since it's days on NBC. The only reason I watch Roseanne on N@N is because it's on late at night, I wouldn't in the daytime, and once Anchor Bay releases sets (knowing AB, we'll definately see the whole series), I'll be done with watching it on Nick.

I know that we're going to see Desperate Housewives, Lost and Veronica Mars in September (I also wouldn't be too surprised if they put out Grey's Anatomy season 1 sometime before Xmas), all of which are freshman series. But there are also people out there who might want to buy Joey season 1. While I think Joey isn't very good, I hope the reason Warner hasn't announced it is because they're waiting until Friends to finish, instead of waiting 4 years or never to release it, because Friends collectors will want their collection to continue with Joey IMO.

I totally agree BuffySlayer. I think Sitcoms have every right to come out as Dramas. Thanks to the DVDs of Arrested Development and Corner Gas coming out before Season 2 I've been able to introduce new people so they can catch up before the new season starts. I'd love to be able watch Rodney or Joey just because I haven't seen them yet. Or check out the first season of According to Jim, My Wife and Kids, George Lopez or 8 Simple Rules.

I also with you on your fall shows and I woulden't be surprised if House M.D., Medium and possibly The Office joined them. I'd put down Boston Legal too but with ABC withholding the rest of the season to combine with Season 2 I don't know how they would approach the DVD.

David E. Kelley seems to have a phobia about DVD's. The Practice and Picket Fences have yet to be released, and all we have for Ally McBeal is a 6 episode "best of" set that was released over five years ago. Until he starts releasing his stuff on DVD, I doubt we'll see Boston Legal.

with 8 Simple Rules, I wonder if they will be smart and release the 3 Ritter episodes in season 2 right before he dead along with season 1. So people who want the show on DVD can only have his episodes, and can have a "fantasy world" where Paul Henessey doesn't die because the last episode would be the last one with him.

I think that would be the right thing to do.

And then if the demand for season 2 is apparent they can just have those episodes on there as well to be true to continuity and purists.

See, that is exactly the reason why current sitcoms usually do not come out on DVD until AFTER a syndie deal is done. They're afraid if a show is on DVD first, no one will watch the reruns.

what about Family Guy? that is one of the biggest selling TV-DVD series, and the original 50 episodes (not counting the new episodes) have all been released on DVD, yet it still doesn't stop it from being a smash on TBS and Cartoon Network.

Sex And The City is another example, the show does gangbusters on TBS even though the entire series is released on DVD, and when it started on TBS, only the last 8 episodes hadn't been released.

Nontheless, I hate syndication, the video seems to degrade really badly and the episodes are highly edited. I think people want their fave sitcoms on DVD just as much as their fave hour-long shows.

I have a smaller tv next to my computer, and I tested this theory out with a Seinfeld episode that aired on a local syndie package. On the DVD player on my computer, the episode looked crisp, clear and fresh, and you wouldn't realize the episode was made fourteen years ago, on the local Fox outlet that airs Seinfeld at 11:30 at night, the same episode was incredibly grainy, the sound was bad, and a lot of the funniest scenes of the episode were chopped out.

Good point, but I'm talking about the normal 5 days a week syndication for the traditional sitcom. This is probably why Bernie Mac S2 isn't out yet, since it starts 5 days a week this September.

You might be right about the syndication. I remember hearing that the reason JAG hasn't come out or won't for a while is because of syndication. And wasn't there a similar deal with Charmed and why it took so long? And with shows like Wife & Kids, Jim, George & Rules all starting around the time when TV shows on DVD were relatively new I bet we'll have to wait until after the syndication deal. It's too bad if that's the reason :(

Well, we have Doogie Howser: S1 on DVD, so that's a start. :)

I'd like to see Ally McBeal seasons released, but I think music licensing issues are preventing that from happening...

I am surprised MWAK hasn't made it to syndication yet. I could've sworn it's been on for 5 seasons (well, the first season was half) and series usually hit syndication in season 5

'Kids' will be in syndication this fall. It's been sold to 95% of the country so far.

Well, since I originally started this thread two of the shows I wanted have been released to DVD, 8 Simple Rules and George Lopez and now it looks like two more might be joining them.

TVShowsOnDvd is reporting that According to Jim may finally be released in January. This is a great news for me as this is been one of the sitcoms I've been waiting for. I can't wait to start watching from the very beginning.

The other show according to wikipedia is My Wife and Kids. Wikipedia is saying that the first season will be released on February 20. Now I know Wikipedia info is sketchy and not always reliable so can anyone else confirm this? Pavan?

That would be a good idea.They should really pair up all 3 shows, along with the last season of Home Improvement, and maybe make a whole promotional stunt around them. I'm waiting for all 4 shows, and I know I'd happily buy all 4 on the same day.
