View Full Version : missing tag scene?
chrisw79 05-09-2005, 06:50 PM I was at the home theater forum and someone stated that he believes the season 4 set left off the tag scene in Ralph's Rival, as apparently the episode runs about a minute shorter than the others as well as part of the Jack getting dressed scene missing from Mighty Mouth. If this is the case, it's a shame as Anchor Bay had been doing an excellent job with these releases. If there is, hopefully they will add it back on as an extra in the season 5 set.
Edster2973 05-09-2005, 10:06 PM I do not think the episode had a tag to be honest. It wasn't shorter but ran almost 25 minutes (including the opening & closing theme songs). Other episodes that had tags also ran almost 25 minutes (including the opening & closing theme songs). Not all Three's Company episodes had tags. I seem to recall an episode in Season 1 that was tagless but ran the same duration of time. I don't recall the episode's title in particular, but I remember that one of them didn't have a tag...

Doesn't sound Good

What do you mean? Didn't you read my response? There is no added tag to that particular episode. All is well folks. :)

Pavan 05-10-2005, 06:40 PM I think there is a tag, though. The episode runs 24:30 something, all the other episodes with tags run 25:10 or so. Also, there is a weird "clap" after the last scene in Ralph's Rival. I'm still finding out for sure, but it seems that the tag is indeed edited out for that episode.

Unless you saw the ABC version of this episode, there is no wy of knowing for sure.

Well see if you can find out before Friday because if it is edited out I'm not buying the season. I refuse to pay money for a incomplete season
Kristen J. 05-10-2005, 07:07 PM Call me blonde, but what is a tag?
James"Thunder"Early 05-10-2005, 07:10 PM Call me blonde, but what is a tag? It's a short scene just before the closing credits
TVFactFan 05-10-2005, 07:11 PM Call me blonde, but what is a tag?
Tag scene is the 15-20 scene right before the closing credits.

You're not buying because of a less than 30 second scene??
TVFactFan 05-10-2005, 10:15 PM You're not buying because of a less than 30 second scene??
Well I planned on buying it on Friday but since the season is not complete, it's no longer high on my DVD to buy list.

Pav any guess on why the hell a TAG would be missing on the DVD? Now this leads me to believe the Jack/Chrissy Phone scene will be cut out in October

Relax. Maybe the quality of the tag was not good enough, or there was no tag at all. But it was odd that the clapping didn't sound right. I highly doubt the Chrissy tags will be removed, they are too well known.
Pavan 05-16-2005, 09:05 PM Micah Gwinn, a fan, sent me this possible solution to this situation:
"I have a possibility as to why Ralph's Rival doesn't contain a tag scene but it is just a guess. Don Nicholl died around that time. Perhaps instead of a tag scene they did a memorial to him that week?"
I think that might be very possible. I'll look into it.
TV DVD Fan 05-16-2005, 09:26 PM thanks pav. as usual, going beyond the call of duty. i commend you sir!

karma 05-22-2005, 01:50 AM I'll be really disappointed if there really is a missing scene... I don't know why but I'd much rather have a poor quality tag scene than to have it cut out and have an incomplete set of shows.
I Love John Ritter 05-22-2005, 03:04 AM I just finished watching this episode again on my DVD and just the way that it cuts into the ending credits gives the impression that there is indeed a tag scene that was not included on the DVD. Of course, we don't know for certain, and the reason that pavanbadal posted sounds logical as well.

It's kind of annoying because the purpose of the DVD is to see things you don't see on N@N/TVLAND.

Agreed, but again, it's only ONE tag scene, and I don't think there was one for this episode, as I've said from the beginning.
Plus, holding out on this set, you're being denied the other episodes, which are gems and which are in their ENTIRETY. If you hold out now, you won't be able to get this again. I highly doubt Anchor Bay would release another Season 4 set just for a 40 second tag (if it indeed exists... it may not and I don't think it does).
Just my two cents. You're free to not buy it if you wish, but I think the pros outweigh the cons. They've done a bang up job thus far on these DVDs...

Ed once again, if you did not see the ABC version of that episode you don;t know if it had a Tag or not. And I never said I'm not buying it, i said since I heard of the missing scene I'm not going to rush and buy it
Edster2973 05-22-2005, 02:11 PM Ed once again, if you did not see the ABC version of that episode you don;t know if it had a Tag or not.
And once again, this is why I said I didn't THINK there was a tag scene. I didn't say I knew that for sure.
And I never said I'm not buying it, i said since I heard of the missing scene I'm not going to rush and buy it
I took what you said to mean that you weren't planning on purchasing it at all. In fact I think Pav did too and responded that he was going to look into whether there was a tag scene or not.
Either way, I was just offering advice since it seemed like you were sworn off buying it. I didn't want you depriving yourself of this wonderful set, even if it's missing a tag scene.

StevieB 06-08-2005, 10:54 PM My wife and I just finished watching "Ralph's Rival". We both came to the conclusion that there IS indeed something odd about the way the episode ends. We were lead to believe that there is a very strong chance that this episode did have a tag scene at one time. The fourth season episode tags usually end this way:
Final scene of the episode fades out with audience applauding...
A couple of seconds of darkness and silence...
Fade in to tag scene...
Tag scene fades out with applause and gracefully blends into closing theme...
Intro to "Closing Theme" with Jack,Janet, and Chrissy on the boat...
However,in "Ralph's Rival",the final scene of the episode fades out with applause, and instead of blending gracefully into the "boat" footage/closing theme intro music...there is an awkward pause lasting a second or two,two seconds of "unexpected applause"(that sounds a little different from the previous applause),and then the "boat" footage.
.
My wife and I think that the awkward pause is the result of them cutting out a tag scene, and the two seconds of the "unexpected applause" are the
remains of the missing tag scene's applause.
We highly recommend that you play back the final 30 seconds of "Ralph's Rival" several times in a row with the audio turned up as high as possible. It would help even more if you closed your eyes during these 30 seconds so that you can concentrate better, and listen for the "unexpected applause". I did this several times and it is more noticeable this way. The final 30 seconds even sound a bit different too. They have the "feel" like something indeed is missing.
It has been years since I saw the episode when it was brand new on ABC back in 1979-1980. Maybe the tag was cut out in the interval of time in-between when the episode was shown for the first time, and when "Three's Company" was first syndicated?
What does everybody think?
Sincerely,Steve.
