View Full Version : "The Emancipation of Mimi" Mariah Carey's NEW album
MonarC 05-09-2005, 11:35 AM Hello everyone.... It's me the biggest Mariah fan in the world. This album is just a total mind blower. It is incredible. I have to say my favorite Mariah album of all time. If you haven't gotten your copy yet. Your missing out. It's so amazing. :D
HuntingtonM15 05-09-2005, 12:19 PM I agree. It is a really great album. It's not my favorite of all-time, but it's definitely up there. It is such a big improvement from what she had been doing. I'm so glad she's getting all this success again...she definitely deserves it. It looks like Mimi will be platinum this week! By the way, it's nice to see you back on the boards.
Dean Winchester 05-09-2005, 06:42 PM I bet J. Lo, who has spent a career copping off Mariah, is furious that Mimi has already sold 1 million copies while her album is at 600,000 and quickly sinking even tho Rebirth's been out three times as long.
I hadn't bought any Mariah product since Daydream until now, but I like the new album a lot. I actually picked up Rainbow and Glitter used for $1 each a few days ago. I'm glad she's found her way back
Dean Winchester 05-10-2005, 04:23 AM I'm surprised you don't like Mimi because it's "too hip hop", yet liked Butterfly. Hell, I thought Butterfly's singles were way too hip hop for my liking, and I like the rap collaborations on this album. And I am one of the furthest things from a hip hop fan

Thx HuntingtonM15 :D It's good to be back. The album has no where as near as much rap as the past few albums. And there are quite a alot of ballads on this new album too that are "original Mariah" style. Like "Fly Like a Bird" OMG! that song makes me feel closer to god.
HuntingtonM15 05-10-2005, 12:17 PM As a big fan of Mariah's I have to say I was very disappointed with her newest cd. I don't see how it can be doing so well. I'm not a fan of rap or r&b.
If you aren't a fan of rap or r&b, than you shouldn't buy any new Mariah music. She has changed for the better on this album, but it's not like she's just going to jump back to her Vision of Love days.

The fact that Mariah took more control over the rappers on this album is what I like most. They are much more limited than on other albums. I don't really mind them on this one. I am glad she did songs like "Mine Again" and "Circles." I love how she returned to the strong vocals. I also love "Fly Like a Bird." It was one of my favorites from the first time I listened to it.

I don't get the whole rapper deal on her albums tho. She's got way too much talent to be pulling a J. Lo (I know Mariah did it first, but it was more successful for J. Lo because she doesn't have any musical talent). I hope seeing that We Belong Together is becoming her biggest airplay single in ages (#7 on the hot 100 and climbing, without the benefit of a commercial single. I know Busta Rhymes single went to #3, but it was pushed as a Busta single, not Mariah) shows Mariah that people like her as she is, without the aid of hot rap stars. That crap is for people like Ashanti and J. Lo who can't sing.

yes, that is what I noticed on this album. You can tell they're the guest on Mariah's album, instead of it being "50 Cent featuring Mariah". But my opinion is, if Mariah's gonna try and court the hip hop market, why not also try courting the rock market? I mean, imagine "Mariah featuring The White Stripes", lol....
Janet has done a better job when it comes to courting various genres. She's worked with hip hop artists, she's worked with rock artists, she's talked about working with electronica acts. Whereas it's hip hop, hip hop, hip hop with Mariah, even tho she forgets that her core Adult Contemporary fanbase is not into hip hop.

I agree with that. I never liked the rappers on her albums, but I'd much rather take them in moderation than have them on almost every song. I'm surprised that I really don't mind them much on this new one.
Rhiannon 05-10-2005, 04:23 PM I have the new album too! My favorite song on the cd is "We Belong Together." yayay
Superstar 05-10-2005, 04:26 PM I don't have the album, and I don't intend to buy it but I really like "Its Like That".
musicradio77 05-11-2005, 07:44 PM I borrowed that new Mariah Carey CD from Arthur Washington, the guy who works at Gateway Community Industries in Kingston, NY. I like to listen to that new CD. If I like, I will burn it on my CD.http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif I have many of her CD's in my collection.
SBTB Geek 05-12-2005, 12:53 AM I like it as well, I hope she releases "Say Somethin'" next. It sounds like a good single.
HuntingtonM15 05-12-2005, 01:22 AM This week she sold just a bit more than last week, keeping the #2 position on the charts. The album is also platinum now.
musicradio77 05-12-2005, 05:07 PM Mariah Carey was on Jay Leno last night. She had an interview segment and then at the end of the show she sang. Anyone else see it?
I missed it!http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/frown.gif
HuntingtonM15 05-18-2005, 06:26 PM Apparently, Mariah's next single is going to be Shake It Off. I really hope this is true. It's probably my favorite on the album, and I think it would do well on the radio.
