you need to be more specific with the error message, drive, system, type of disk you are using, software, and what you have tried/what you did to get the error...

what BRAND/MODEL is the drive?

what software are you using - Nero? Roxio? RecordNow?

can you post a screenshot of the error message?

i honestly need more information here, you said that the drive is a Syvania? do you mean Sylvania? is this a stand-alone drive? or is this a drive you plug-in to your computer?

Okay, so it's a stand alone recorder?

Have you tried unplugging it for a few minutes, then trying again? Does it do it with every disc you try to record on? I know this sounds stupid, but double check that you aren't supposed to be using DVD+R discs.

Well, I've had my share (and other's shares too) of problems with mine. Sometimes unplugging it and letting it rest resets it or something. But if that doesn't work, then you have deeper problems. Hopefully you won't need a new drive like I did.

We had a problem with one of ours... what KIND of DVD's are they?(Brand name). The recorder wasn't recognizing them and would come up with an error.

Yes... they still have a lot of glitches to work out but otherwise are GREAT!
