View Full Version : Fake Products Used on "Full House"
musicradio77 05-02-2005, 05:31 PM As you probably know, there was an episode of "Full House" called "Crimes and Michelle's Demeanor", I was going through these scenes where DJ, Stephanie and Kimmy are having a pillow fight. If you see those names, they had soda cans that they were fake products used on the show. For instance, Diet Pepsi was changed to "Diet Cola" and Mountain Dew was changed to "Fountain Do". Those were just fake names from the show. Here is that picture.
Classicshowsgurl15 05-02-2005, 05:40 PM So they are the same sodas as moutain dew and Diet pepsi they just changed the names. That is so dumb.

You should buy "Diet Cola" and "Fountain Do" at the grocery store.

Urkel_2003 05-02-2005, 07:16 PM Iv'e also seen them Use these Laundry Detergents Ail and Soif, and that's no joke. Check it out for yourself sometime, you can often see the Laundry Detergent in the kitchen scenes.
DukeDevils9192 05-02-2005, 07:41 PM It's not just this show. To air the actual labels would cost tons of money. So they change them so they'll be recognizable but without having to pay the money.
On the Boy Meets World DVD commentaries, the cast mentions how every television show known to man had "Oaties" cereal. And it's true. There's all sorts of generic products out there used by every show. It's annoying, but true.
The first one I noticed was on California Dreams when I was much younger. It was a green soda can that said "Sprit"
Urkel_2003 05-02-2005, 07:49 PM I remember seeing Sprit on Family Matters too. Another off Brand Product they had on Family Matters was Crunchies instead of Captain Crunch. And Bringles Potato Chips.
musicradio77 05-02-2005, 08:04 PM On one episode of "Full House" they also had a cereal called Toasted Oat Boats. I know they put labels on every episode of the show, because advertisers pays money.http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

Now to get back to this. According to the first picture on my first post, the episode "Crimes and Michelle's Demeanor" has soda cans. For example, the bottling company Pepsi owns Diet Pepsi and Mountain Dew decided that the episode does not show the real brands that Pepsi ever did, because of advertisers royalities.
Coory 05-03-2005, 07:53 PM I liked the Oat Boats one.

ooh yeah
swedeace 05-04-2005, 09:03 PM This is common in sitcoms because they want to avoid paying so much money for "product placements" of real names. That's why they change the names slightly. :)
AnneJaye 05-05-2005, 01:25 AM I remember an episode where they were eating "snickles" which were supposed to be skittles.
But I wonder if saying the product name is different than showing it because I remember an episode where Michelle was looking through the couch cushions for money and she was like, "Allright a cheeto!"
Is that considered the same as product placement?
swedeace 05-05-2005, 08:42 AM Is that considered the same as product placement?
That's true about the Cheeto mention. I think it's not considered product placement if it's verbally mentioned. It's only when it's visually seen is what is important, I think.

Yeah right! I believe sponsors like Coca-Cola, Kellogg's, General Mills and others does not even put them on TV shows. Only in TV commercials they do.
Sargent Stewie 05-07-2005, 09:29 AM Let's see...Oat Boats, Diet Cola and snickles
EmoJoe 05-07-2005, 06:55 PM So they are the same sodas as moutain dew and Diet pepsi they just changed the names. That is so dumb.
Cause their not allowed to use the real names i guess
troopoleon8897 05-07-2005, 09:31 PM They do this on about every episode of Roseanne. and on the saying thing that must be allowed because on the episode where michelle learns to read she uses the cleaning abc's
a is for ajax
b is for brillo
c is for clorox
G-Force Glockstar 05-07-2005, 11:49 PM I don't understand WHY they can't use real names. Is it because it'd cost money or something??? I still think it's weird.

Yeah, the companies will then want lots of money from the show because the show would be advertising their product. Of course, these big companies would definitely want it, and some sitcoms just don't rake in TOO much money; therefore, they themselves want to avoid that. That's why it's easier to see the "real" products being shown as "product placements" in movies much more often.
