View Full Version : Anyone Remember Dave's World?
Felix Na Vi Da 05-02-2005, 04:51 PM I'm trying to find more information on this show. I loved it when I was around 10 but I barely remember anything about it. Also does anyone know who owns it? As i'd love to get it on DVD but it i can't find any company who owns the rights.
Dean Winchester 05-02-2005, 05:30 PM I remember that. Harry Anderson's other sitcom before he left showbiz.
I don't remember too much about the show except that Harry played real-life satirist Dave Barry, and that the episodes were mostly based on his columns. I do remember people like John Ritter and Meshach Taylor doing guest spots on there. I also remember that the show gave Buffy's Nicholas Brendon his big break.
TripperFan 05-02-2005, 05:36 PM It was a great show. Wish some station would bring it back in reruns. I think I remember seeing it somewhere a couple of years ago for a bit, but since then - nothing.
mstewart 05-03-2005, 01:02 AM I remember the show and it was excellent. DeLane Matthews, as Harry Anderson's TV wife Beth, was a hottie especially in her shorts. What killed the show was when it moved from its cozy Monday night slot when it got good ratings to Wednesday nights. From that point on Dave's World never received the good ratings that it did the first two seasons on Monday nights. It look like Anderson and Matthews could had been married in real life. Their romantic chemistry came across well on screen.
treky 05-03-2005, 02:09 AM I remember PAX used to show reruns of it, a while ago. I think on weekday afternoons.
barwars 05-03-2005, 05:15 PM I remember this show. I remember liking it too. I could never think of the name though.
Scoobiedoo30 05-04-2005, 01:01 AM Yes I remember watching Dave's Word weekday's at 3:30 pm Central Time
on PAX's.
Felix Na Vi Da 05-04-2005, 02:56 PM Thanks Everybody. It's sorta of coming back to me. Thanks Riff i'll check out that Paramount thing. I've heard that they want to put out most of their library on DVD maybe Dave's World will come eventually.
ComedyGuy 10-05-2007, 11:04 AM I too remember this show and i did enjoy it too.
I saw a recent interview of Harry Anderson during a documentary about HOUDINI and boy he sure plumped up a bit but he still looks the same.
salim 12-13-2007, 11:10 AM I remember it. It played on Asian cable TV a few years back. Funny show. Loved it, primarily for Mesatch Taylor and Shadoe Stevens! Them, along with Patrick Warburton MADE the show!
Schmoopie 07-28-2008, 03:02 AM I vaguely remember this show! I think I watched it a few times. Wow, I didn't know Patrick Warburton had been on it! I loved him on Seinfeld!

Forgotten Sitcoms: "Dave's World" (http://www.theincredibleinman.com/2022/01/forgotten-sitcoms-daves-world.html)
If "Dave's World" (https://web.archive.org/web/20061031125223/http://www.jumptheshark.com/d/davesworld.htm) had any kind of ratings success, it was due to its location on the CBS schedule. It aired on Monday nights, nestled snugly between two popular shows -- "Evening Shade" and "Murphy Brown." It finished the season tied with "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" in 21st place. It stayed in the same slot the next season, sandwiched between "The Nanny" and "Murphy Brown," and again finished in 21st place.
In the fall of 1995 "Dave's World" (https://web.archive.org/web/20140331135514/http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/topic/3129621-daves-world-i-am-not-making-this-up/?view=getnewpost) was moved to Wednesdays, and the slide began. The show fell out of the top thirty, and Patrick Warburton was added to the cast as a love interest for Mia.
Then came the end -- a move to Friday nights for the 1996-97 season. Competition was tough -- this was the heyday of ABC's TGIF sitcom lineup that included "Family Matters," "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" and "Boy Meets World." "Dave's World" kicked off the night for CBS, followed by a new show, "Everybody Loves Raymond." "Dave's World" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave%27s_World) was yanked in January, with remaining episodes burned off in the early summer. "Everybody Loves Raymond" was saved by a move to Monday nights.
"Dave's World" (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Series/DavesWorld) received one Emmy nomination -- in 1996, for Outstanding Cinematography for a Series. Congratulations, Tony Yarlett! Sorry you didn't win. Its theme song was Billy Joel's "You May Be Right," performed by Southside Johnny. But because of rights issues, you won't hear it on the DVDs of the show. And as far as DVDs go, only three of the show's four seasons are available. There is no discernible online outcry or petition to make season four happen.
biffbronson 05-23-2022, 06:55 AM I'm a little surprised it's considered forgotten. I remember watching the series in prime time. There was always a missing piece of kitchen counter tile.

The blog entry (http://www.theincredibleinman.com/2022/01/forgotten-sitcoms-daves-world.html) that I just posted, seemed to suggest that Dave's World was perceived to merely be a "time slot hit" (https://www.google.com/search?q=%22time+slot+hit%22+show+site:www.reddit.com&sxsrf=ALiCzsa6_2l2sSkJpH_dZL0dX_3StwmAIg:1653304141393&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiPqbbwvfX3AhXKC0QIHbZWAycQrQIoA3oECAsQBA&biw=1600&bih=789&dpr=1). In other words, it was a show (https://www.datalounge.com/thread/26332653-shows-the-world-forgot-about) that initially benefited from the shows that it was placed in-between of on Monday nights, Evening Shade/The Nanny and Murphy Brown.
Also, the show (https://www.datalounge.com/thread/20256067-forgotten-tv-shows) other than being on PAX for a brief while, was never widely syndicated. It just came very close of reaching the coveted 100 episode mark when it was cancelled in 1997. Also, only the first two seasons were officially released on DVD. The theme song by Billy Joel, however had been replaced with a generic rock track. You can currently, screen Dave's World on YouTube thanks to Shadoe Stevens (http://www.shadoe.com/television.html).
It probably didn't help that Dave Berry (https://blogs.herald.com/dave_barrys_blog/2018/04/harry-anderson.html) in real life got a divorce (http://www.miamibeach411.com/news/index.php?/news/comments/davebarry-tv/) from his wife while Dave's World was still on the air. So there was probably a general feeling, that what was being said and depicted on television was completely inauthentic to Dave's actual reality.
Chocolate Moose 05-23-2022, 03:38 PM very cute show!
