I was wondering if you guys were JoMarie Payton would you leave the show? I know I would. Think about it, you get your own spinoff and you are upstaged not really a problem because Jaleel White contributed much to the show's success. But then as time goes on your role gets smaller and smaller and not only that they let Jaleel White write episodes mainly based on his inventions, Stefan and all of the many other characters he played. Then when you try to submit your family-themed ideas they turn them down. I can't say I blame her one bit for quitting.

I agree, they should have just done more eps about her, but then again, the whole Carl and Harriette argue about something, then Harriette turns out to be right(as always) and they kiss and make up thing was getting pretty old.

I would have left. I noticed that after awhile, the show was all about Urkel and Laura. It just became too silly.

I guess one of the main problems is that Steve didn't talk to Harriette that much on the show, at least not anywhere near as much as Carl, Laura, and Eddie.

Yeah thats right Carl, Eddie and Laura had the most storylines because Steve interacted with them the most on the show. Steve was in love with Laura, best friends with Eddie and loved to spend quality time with Carl.

That's right, that's why Judy, Richie, Mother Winslow, and Rachel started to receive less and less attention as seasons went by, because they did not interact much with Steve. I don't even know why they brought 3J on the show, even after he became a regular cast member, he still missed out on quite a few eps.

Yeah thats right. I think they brought in 3J just to give the show a more of a "Family Matters" touch but it did not work. But then after that they just went back to all of that wackiness. It was like once in awhile they would try to throw in a serious episode in the mix but there were much more wacky episodes then serious ones in the later seasons.

Also remember that they added Myra who thought Laura wanted Urkel and they had Mrytle who was in love with Eddie. Not only that they added Stefan who Laura loved and Stefan loved back. So this gave Laura and Eddie more storylines because of the interactions with Myra, Stefan and Mrytle who of course revolved around Steve.

That's right, all of the characters that they introduced, even small recurring ones, revolved around the younger cast, Maxine,Waldo,Myra,Weasel,Greta, Myrtle,Stefan. And characters that revolved around the older cast began to leave, Lt. Murtaugh,Rachel,Mother Winslow.

At least if Rachel was still on the show they could have done more storylines (subplots) revolving around the two of them. But all they could do was give Harriette arguing plots with Carl because he was really the only one in the older cast left since Mother Winslow hardly appeared and Rachel was not there.

I had no problem with the writers focusing on the younger cast. But I did have a problem with the writers introducing and focusing on the unnecessary characters i.e. Myra, Stefan and Mrytle. At least with Maxine, Waldo, Greta and Weasel they were friends of Eddie and Laura so to me they were neccessary. Myra, Stefan and Mrytle just took even more focus off everyone else. They already gave Steve much more attention than he should have gotten. So it was pushing too far to introduce and focus on Steve's girlfriend, his alter-ego and cousin also played by Jaleel White.

Another thing is that mostly kids were watching the show, and they really didn't care about what problems Carl and Harriette were having, kids really just wanted to see Urkel. I was 9/10 yrs old when the show was on CBS, and I only have slight memories about what happened with the older characters on the show, because at the time I really only cared about seeing Steve. Now watching the show in reruns, I wish they hadn't given Steve so much attention.
