I just purchased a DVD copy of the TV Movie "Rescue From Gilligan's Island" for a buck at Wal-Mart, and there is something about the film that puzzles me:

What was the purpose of the seven castaways getting rescued and then getting shipwrecked on the exact same island once again?

I think the purpose of this movie is to show that the castaways were more happy on the island. After they got rescued, the castaways had a really hard time to ajuste themselves to the changes of the new civilisation they found.

In the 2 other movies, the Howell's own an island ressort were the castaways choose to stay permanently:the skipper & Gilligan go get the guests by boat,Ginger do shows and gives hawaiian dancing lesson, the professor is the expedition guide and Mary Ann works at the relaxing spot:massages, spas.mud bath ect...They have no phone,no television...People come there to relaxe and to enjoy some peace and quiet.

I agree, I think they were happier on the island. On a few episodes of Gilligan, GIlligan says he does not want to leave and he has had fun. Ginger also says stuff like that also. Wrongway Felsman gave good reasons for wanting to stay ship wreced. I am glad they did get re-rescued in The Castaways On Gilligan's Island movie because it did put an end to it. I like the hotel and everything. In Inside Gilligan's Island, Sherwood Schwartz had that idea before the first episode aired. He said to CBS that if the ratings go down the cast would be rescued and start a paradise hotel. In 1979 thats what happened. Except not because of bad ratings
