View Full Version : Slated to Return May 27
Pavan 04-27-2005, 12:06 AM Returns May 27
Miss 8 Simple Rules? Fear not, as of now, 8 Simple Rules is slated to return to ABC Fridays on May 27 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT. An encore of "The After Party" is slated that night.
Scoobiedoo30 04-27-2005, 01:00 AM I will be glad to see 8 Simple Rules Returne to The Friday Night Schedule
on Friday, May 27, 2005 at 7:00 pm Central Time.
katefandream04 04-27-2005, 01:33 AM Yay finally
Raisingdad2004 04-27-2005, 04:14 AM Could this be a sign renewal is a-knocking?
katefandream04 04-27-2005, 08:34 AM Maybe...:) They wouldn't have let us know rerun schedule until weeks from that...
Superbowl 04-27-2005, 10:01 AM Well, I must admit that is the best sign I have seen yet. I know networks do strange things, but why would the network have the show on haitus, and then put it back on if they cancelled it ? I really hope this is a good omen. I guess we will find out soon enough.
Brent88 04-27-2005, 10:19 AM I think this is GREAT news... since the majority of the ABC Fall schedule is already decided, then I think this is a good sign for renewal. I cannot remember any shows in recent memory that after being cancelled aired repeats over the summer. Big hit shows that went out with a proper finale like Friends don't count.

Yeah, it really makes you think positive thoughts. I wonder if Less Than Perfect returns that day, too. If it does than it may not mean anything. If Less Than Perfect does not return on May 27, and 8 Simple Rules does, that could tell us a lot about ABC's plans.
Miss Golden 04-27-2005, 12:27 PM Usually shows that get cancelled do not rerun in the summer, I expect this means it has been renewed, I mean give it one more season so it can get a syndication deal.
However last year ABC showed repeats of I'm with Her through the majority of the summer and it got cancelled after one year despite medicore ratings.
Brent88 04-27-2005, 01:24 PM Pav... do you know what's going to air from 8:30-10:00pm on Fridays then?
Raisingdad2004 04-27-2005, 04:11 PM I think this is a good sign of renewal, I know Pavan said "slated", but really I would think thats a sign renewal is coming but 8SR may not be put in that slot.
I don't see the point in pre-scheduling a show if it is gone, Hopefully this means it will be back!
Superbowl 04-27-2005, 04:11 PM Guys, I hate to throw some cold water on this, but I was thinking about it. ABC announced yesterday that they will be showing four burn off episodes of Complete Savages. So what I think this means is they will show 8SR before those four episodes to fill out the hour. If you notice they are starting with the After Party, which is the fourth to last episode of the year. Something tells me they will show the last four episodes of the season again before the 4 final episodes of Complete Savages, and that is it. I think they are using 8SR simply as a filler to fill in the time slot needed for Complete Savages to run out.
You can tell me I am wrong, but after thinking it over I think this means nothing towards renewal. In fact, it may mean more towards cancellation, because if it was being renewed they may have moved it to a new time slot like 9:30 when bringing it back for the summer. I could be wrong, but I think you will see either the last four episodes only or repeats with repeats of Complete Savages in the 8-9 hour this summer and both will be gone in the Fall. These two shows will probably simply hold the time slot for a new show or shows in the Fall.

:( That sounds very true, There goes my happy face :p :(
If I remember correctly last season though 8SR did not move to its new timeslot until June/July? So I don't think it being in the same slot is any indication of cancellation.

Wrong. Look:
Effective, Friday, May 27, 2005 “Complete Savages” will return to the prime time schedule and air in the 8:30 PM ET/PT time period until June 17, 2005.
“8 Simple Rules” will return to the Friday, 8:30 PM ET/PT time period on June 24, 2005.

Thanks, Pavan. That makes me feel better.
Do you know if Less Than Perfect is also returning ?

Yes, May 27, but don't know for how long.
Miss Golden 04-28-2005, 01:10 AM I wonder if ABC is testing America's Funniest Videos for a possible return to Friday next Fall???
IpsoPhatso 04-28-2005, 01:48 AM This looks very positive... When is it ABC makes their final decision on the fall schedule? Isn't in May? If so, isn't it before that date?
If so, I think it means it's almost a shoo-in for renewal. I can't imagine them for instance cancelling the show on the 20th of May just to put it back on the schedule on the 27th and beyond, and then take it off when fall rolls around...
Who knows. Either way, this certainly can't hurt. :)
Raisingdad2004 04-28-2005, 03:59 AM It keeps getting better and better, This is now a very good sign of renewal.
Somebody posted over at "Kaley Cuoco Source" that they were able to find out ABC has already decided the fate of 8 Simple Rules, but does not know what it is. I don't think ABC would air the show as late as June if it was cancelled.

I do want to exercise a little word of caution here. If ABC was bringing back just 8 Simple Rules, I would be very encouraged. However, it also bringing back Less Than Perfect also on May 27. I consider that to be very bad news for 8 Simple Rules. I think almost everyone here would admit that at either one or both of these two shows will be cancelled. If that is the case then if they were renewing 8 Simple Rules, why is Less Than Perfect also being brought back ? ABC will announce the Fall schedule on May 17.
It does seem strange to me for them to put a show on hiatus on April 15, cancel it on May 17, and then bring it back in repeats on May 27. However, unless they are also renewing Less Than Perfect this theory does not apply. Does anyone here really believe both 8 Simple Rules and Less Than Perfect are both being renewed ? Unless you believe they are both being renewed, then the renewal theory based on bringing the show back on May 27 does not hold. This is all very confusing to me. However, someone did say that I'm With Her was brought back last year in the summer and then cancelled in the Fall. I hate to say it, but this could just be ABC filling out the summer schedule, because they have nothing else to air.
I really hate to take the negative here, so if someone can explain to me why Less Than Perfect is also being brought back, than I will believe that this means 8 Simple Rules is definitely being renewed

May 17th. 19 days...

I don't hold any belief in it coming back May 27th as a sign, as you said Less than Perfect is coming back also. But to put the show into double episodes again during June however appears a good sign.
I doubt ABC are using 8SR over the summer because they have nothing to air, They could easily put more AFHV repeats on. They would have allot more choice then, considering quite allot of 8SR Season 3 has already been repeated.

I'll tell you I am totally dazed and confused by this latest development. I do not know what it means if anything, at all. I guess it is either a good sign or no sign at all. It certainly is not a bad sign.
I feel like one of those lawyers trying to "read the tea leaves" and predict the verdict of a trial before the jury comes in with the actual verdict. :)
Auntie 05-11-2005, 01:24 PM Tell us somethnig that we don't already know, like RENEWAL
katefandream04 05-13-2005, 08:28 AM I think 8SR still has a chance over MWAK because its ratings and total viewers were much higher, and 8SR has more of a fanbase than MWAK.

May I suggest that you should start taping the remaining episodes of '8SR', because according to the futon critic, they're not coming back this fall, such a shame. But maybe eventually in the future, they'll release it to dvd.
Pavan 06-03-2005, 11:29 PM A little note starting June 24:
The show will continue to air at 8:00pm, but now 8:30pm that was slated to begin this night (replacing Complete Savages), has been removed. Hope & Faith will air instead at 8:30pm, followed by another Hope & Faith and Less Than Perfect.
Pavan 07-11-2005, 04:13 PM ABC will last air 8 Simple Rules on Friday, August 19 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Starting August 26, Supernanny reruns will air until the fall season starts.
