Last 'Will'? NBC Show Gets Another Year
(Monday, April 25 02:16 PM)

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) "Will & Grace" will be back next season, but that may be it for NBC's longest-running current comedy.

The network, producers and cast have all signed off on a deal to bring "Will & Grace" back for an eighth season in 2005-06. It's possible, though, that next year could be the show's last.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC has ordered 24 episodes -- two more than the standard full-season order of 22 -- plus a clip show, which hints that the network is preparing to give the show a sendoff come next spring. If that's the case, "Will & Grace" would bow out just shy of the 200-episode mark.

NBC isn't commenting at the moment.

The show's ratings -- along with the rest of NBC's once-dominant Thursday schedule -- have dropped this season, meaning the show's license fee has been cut somewhat. Contrary to previous reports, however, its four stars won't have their wallets lightened.

In fact, Debra Messing, Eric McCormack, Sean Hayes and Megan Mullally got raises to about $600,000 per episode, according to the Reporter. Mullally and Hayes will make the same amount as title stars McCormack and Messing, the first time that's happened.

The renewal also ensures that all of NBC's Thursday shows -- fellow comedy "Joey," "The Apprentice" and long-running drama "ER" are the others -- will return next season.

Yeah, but you know that since this is likely to be the final year of the show, I think that NBC is doing the right thing and having at least one more season. That way the show could have a very nice and decent finale next season. But just to make things clear, I am not like JD2635 who was already banned from the board because he keeps insisting that this is the last season, but now since I am much better than that guy, I feel that the 8th season could be might as well, the end of an era.

W&G was lucky to get another season, but next will be the last, for sure. NBC is likely to lose a tonne of money on it next season, especially if they move it to Tuesday and it bombs as widely expected.

As for me, I hope they can up with something better than the mess the show has been this season.

Hey db108108, I recently sent you a private message, did you respond to it?

I hope they don't put it on Tuesdays. I remember during the 6th season NBC aired one episode of the show that night and it did horrible only getting a 10 share. With ratings down as much as they are NBC should just keep their hits where they are. This is what they should really do for Thursdays next season.

8pm The Apprentice
9pm Will and Grace
9:30pm Joey
10pm ER

That sounds alot smarter to me.

Well if the ratings compare with That '70s Show, at least their ratings will go up quite a bit despite Topher Grace and Ashton Kutcher (Limited appearances next season)'s demise. Although That '70s Timeline is kind of going bezzirk since the show is set in 1979 and they are so close to 1980. But I would like to see That show once again in their hey-day years (1976-78) until after their 5th season because if you ask me, the 6th and 7th seasons for both shows That '70s Show and Will & Grace are really disappointing qualitywise but if you ask me, ending both shows after 8 seasons would be dignified.

quite true.

I hardly watch Will & Grace this season.

It seems like the producers DEPENDED too much on the guest stars, which got too old and TIRESOME.

Well, That 70's Show started in 1976.

They should be in 1982 or 1983.

I actually did watch this season. The reason I beleive the ratings went down was because last season the episodes were so horrible that most viewers didn't want to come back for another season which is what happened. But I do beleive this season was a very big improvement over last season.

I love Will & Grace. IMO the characters Jack and Karen make the show and are funnier than Will and Grace. Grace's character needs to be less whiney....

I stopped watching this season because it was so bad last year. Looks like I missed some good tv, time to catch up :D

God, I hope this is the last season. It's still watchable, but this show has gone so far downhill from what it was I don't think it can ever recover.

What's up Slackermonkey?! Long time no see. As you can see I am a new moderator for another board and I am doing my duties quite well. Anyway thanks so much for banning that dude who kept saying that the show was ending last season. It was real annoying. Anyway, I hope that W&G ends on a big note because though the show is going downhill fast, it should end with dignity. Anyway later!

I banned someone?

I took a hiatus from the board for awhile, due to college and whatnot, but I've decided to try posting here regularly again.

Oh, I wasn't quite clear. What I meant was that guy who said that the 7th season would be the last for W&G and kept saying the same thing over and over and over. I think you reported his posts to TJ and then he banned him I think? Well anyway, I moderate That '70s Show fan Board and everything seems fine there. Anyway Later.

Oh right. No wonder I didn't remember actually banning someone. In any case, you're welcome.
