Can anyone tell me why Fraiser ended after 11 seasons and how well it did in the ratings it's last season?

I believe it was the #4 sitcom (behind Friends, Everybody Loves Raymond and Two & A Half Men), but I'm not sure what the overall rank was.

The ratings certainly weren't dreadful, they were much better than Scrubs is doing in the timeslot.


Anyways, the series ended because NBC was just tired of paying for it. From what I've read/heard, almost everyone on the show had hoped to go on for at least one more season. The show was by no means a dud at the end, with both Grammer and Pearce winning their 4th Emmy each. With the rut NBC is in this season, I bet they would have loved it if they could have had Frasier help ground their Tuesday lineup.

It would have been nice if Fraiser had at least 1 more season, most sitcoms don't make it to 12 seasons and it would have been nice if Fraiser did. I think I heard that the cast of Fraiser was making alot of money by the end of the series, if they had been getting paid less, do you think NBC would have given it one more year?

I think NBC would've given it one more year if Kelsey really wanted it. I think they ended it at the right time.

Kelsey actually really wanted to go on for another season. $48Million a season isn't a bad deal. NBC just wasn't willing to pay for it.

Once they became on ongoing hit with great ratings that they decided it would end 11 seasons, to match it with the number of seasons Cheers ran. I remember even when it was in its 9th season only expecting it to run 11, so they knew pretty early how long the show would go.

He has to record for a sitcom character, and its tied with somebody from Gunsmoke for the record for a primetime character.

Daytime (Soap) characters have run much longer though.

I thought the same thing too when I found out how many seasons both show had. Although he did win more emmy's for Fraiser.

I thought I heard this too about Kelsey wanting to go out in the 11th season, and I thought I heard him say once in a different interview that he wanted to go out while the series was still good rather than in a decline phase. Maybe he felt it would've started declining before too much longer. The characters had gradually been going in separate directions for a while.

I think I heard him say that he ties with Jack Benny for playing the same sitcom character the longest on TV. In prime time, James Arness is the only other actor who played a TV character longer.

I saw Kellsey on "Ellen" once during the shows last season, and he was saying that he was scheduled for an interview on "The Today show" about it, and they thought it would be interesting to have James Arness appear with him. But, when they called him up and asked him, he said he couldn't make it. But before he hung up, he said "Oh, by the way-one more thing. Tell Kellsey Grammer **** you!!" (he was only kidding)

I would Love to sere Frasier Stay on for one more Year as well.

Being the huge "Frasier" fan that I am, I would have loved to see the show continue but let's face it, no show can last forever no matter how good it is. It's tough for the writers to keep the storyline at a high interest and eventually people start watching other new shows.

I'm actually glad that "Frasier" had a good ending, or something that I think made some sense, unlike the ending to "Seinfeld" which I was very disappointed in (just my opinion!) :)

It was in the 9th season special celebrating the 200th episode where the interviewer asked Kelsey Grammer how long he thought the show would run and Kelsey said 11 seasons.

Also, in the final season there's an episode featuring Frasier's first wife Nanette (Played by Laurie Metcalf) where she jokes about how tiring it is to play the same character for 20 years. So this was obviously Kelsey's way of saying he'd had enough.

I just started watching Frasier about 3 weeks ago and I'm addicted to it every episode I've seen so far is so hilarious.

I had no idea that this show ran for eleven seasons. That's amazing, given the fact that it's a spin-off. Great show, but usually spin offs are never as good as the original. However, in this case, I prefer Fraiser over Cheers any day!
