View Full Version : Best ABC Sitcom of the 90s?
barwars 04-24-2005, 10:52 AM What was your favorite ABC sitcom from the 1990s??
Mine is most definitely Coach, followed by Roseanne, Home Improvement, Ellen, Boy Meets World, Family Matters, Step by Step and The Drew Carey Show.
Mr. Television 04-24-2005, 10:55 AM I'll go with Roseanne at least for the first 5 seasons or so of the 90's.
Adamantium 04-24-2005, 12:44 PM First up has to be "Ellen". Followed closely by "Boy Meets World".
spunkygirl 04-24-2005, 12:54 PM Boy Meets World, Wings, Home Improvement, Two Guys and a Girl, Sabrina the Teenage Witch
L&OFan4Eva 04-24-2005, 12:58 PM Boy Meets World then Coach then Grace Under Fire then Home Improvement then Life's Work
Brent88 04-24-2005, 01:02 PM Family Matters, followed closely by Roseanne(NOT the final seasons though on either, especially Roseanne).
barwars 04-24-2005, 02:12 PM Boy Meets World, Wings, Home Improvement, Two Guys and a Girl, Sabrina the Teenage Witch
Wings aired on NBC.

DUH I knew that :bonk: I think I had a brain freeze from all this snow we're having or something
EmoJoe 04-24-2005, 02:15 PM Boy Meets World
James 04-24-2005, 03:16 PM I'll have to go with The Wonder Years, even though it's considered by many to be a drama. Granted, Wayne made it a comedy! :D
Honorable mention goes to Family Matters, Home Improvement, and Perfect Strangers.
Dean Winchester 04-24-2005, 04:40 PM 1. Roseanne
2. Ellen
3. Grace Under Fire
I HATED TGIF
Karen* 04-24-2005, 05:38 PM WOOT! Step by Step! Followed by Full House and Family Matters. I don't remember what else was on ABC in the 90s except for those TGIF shows.
Joker85 04-24-2005, 05:45 PM Home Improvement and Ellen
DukeDevils9192 04-24-2005, 06:40 PM It's amazing how good ABC was during this time period. They did have some losers pop-up for a season or two here and there, but they also churned out some really amazing stuff. I don't think any network has ever put out that many good sitcoms in succession and had them all have such successful runs.
Boy Meets World was probably the best, in my opinion, though I loved Full House (I'm learning to love the late 80s episodes more than the others, though), Step by Step, Family Matters (up until about season seven), Home Improvement (I really feel this show is underappreciated), Roseanne, and Ellen (up until she came out and the show got completely not funny). There several others I really enjoyed as well but those come to me right now.
Man I miss 1990s ABC.

I HATED TGIF
No love for Coach or The Drew Carey Show??
I would've asked about Home Improvement, but I remember you saying you hated it.
USTVFanFromUK 04-24-2005, 08:24 PM Come to think of it, Roseanne is probably the only ABC sitcom I ever liked excluding Soap and Three's Company (which, even though cross-over to the 80's are 70's shows).
I've seen a few episodes of Ellen that I do like though.
I'm also anti-TGIF. ABC did much better with its more adult programing like Roseanne, Ellen, and Coach.
Their family-friendly stuff like the TGIF crap make me wanna puke. puke:

Coach was alright, but not a favorite. Drew Carey was alright but I never made a point to watch it on a regular basis. Both shows were ones I could either take or leave. Roseanne and Ellen were the only ABC shows I actually made a real point to watch.
I agree completely with USTVFan's assessment about TGIF. There are a lot of family friendly shows that are wonderful, but none of the TGIF shows have aged well at all to me. Family Matters could've broken the mold if the Urkel plots didn't get so outrageous though, the first season or two of that wasn't bad.

From what I've seen of Two Guys and a Girl I like also.

Funny you should mention that... here lately Family Matters has seemed less funny to me, whereas Roseanne is getting better. I don't know if I'm burned out on the show(I've seen all the episodes of both multiple times) or what... but it could be aging. I used to like Full House too and now I hate it.

Coach was the funniest show of the 90s. Not to mention the 9 year run.

Are you saying that you're a Coach hater?
USTVFanFromUK 12-18-2005, 10:31 PM Are you saying that you're a Coach hater?
Yeah, that's exactly what he's saying right after he said the show was "funny". God, I've never seen someone hate a show so much! ::sarcasm::
troopoleon8897 12-18-2005, 11:20 PM Are you saying that you're a Coach hater?
No Im not, I think the first 6 seasons are pretty funny. The reason i said anything was that you mentioned its nine season run as to why it was the best ABC sitcom of the 90's but alot of 90's sitcoms ran for 9 seasons or more so thats the only reason i mentioned it, just cause a show runs 9 seasons doesn't mean its the best show and just cause a show runs two seasons doesn't mean its the worst show, however you are intitled to your opinion...
