Well all know that CBS was not known for great comedies in the 80's. So what comedy would you say was the worst? I have to say Designing Women.

I loved Designing Women! Well, in the first years, anyway. I'd have to say Newhart was one I didn't appreciate. Was that the 80's? It's all a blur... lol.

I was talking about comedies that made it's debut o CBS in the 80's. Not shows that started in the 70's and carried over to the 80's. The Jeffersons aired from 80-85 so is that a 80's show too?

Well, even though The Jeffersons are equated as a '70s show, it didn't hit a creative and ratings peak until the early '80s, so yes I would consider it an '80s show.

Kate & Allie (1984)
Charles in Charge (1984) (only because it had a successful syndication run)
Designing Women (1986)
Murphy Brown (1988)
Major Dad (1989)

What's anyone's take on "My Sister Sam" and "Frank's Place?"

I use to like MSS, that was good, and it could have lasted longer if Rebecca Shaeffer wouldn't have got shot to death.

Frank's Place wasn't bad either.

I thought Designing Women was excellent until Delta Burke left. It was horrible by the time Julia Duffy came on.

To me the worst was Charles In Charge. No wonder Willy Ames got a drug habit - he must have watched reruns! :rolleyes:


My Sister Sam was a great show. Horrible that Rebecca was murdered - she could have gone quite far I think.

Frank's Place was very good.
This kind of show would have found an audience today.
(no laugh track, character driven, quality atmospheric comedy-drama)

I don't remember much about My Sister Sam.

Out of the other shows mentioned, I didn't care for Designing Women though it was not terrible.

I never watched Major Dad for more than a few minutes and I would have to say that is my least favorite.

Yes, I would watch Charles in Charge over Major Dad.

Murphy Brown is a 90s sitcoms. The only CBS sitcoms I enjoyed from the 80s were Newhart, Kate & Allie and Charles In Charge.

I can't stand Designing Women, but I think I would enjoy it much more had it not been for Delta Burke.
