Yes. It has changed. It's sometimes difficult for me to adjust to change. But, I like the new format. I'm sorry that it's slower for you. That's never fun.

I remember when I first came here I didn't like the old layout of the boards,but I joined anyway and it was the great people here that made me stay.And then we got this layout,and I love it.

The third* board upgrade happened in, IIRC, December 2001, with the newest upgrade happening on January 3, 2005.

*SO originally used Ultimate Bulletin Board for a brief period in 1999, but the database was scratched, so the boards were changed to alternate software, before changing back to UBB again in 2000....These two early periods of the forum are presumed lost.

I'm totally used to the new look now. I can't even remember what the old site looked like! Does anybody have a screen cap of the old SO?

Thanks Seth - that's cool to be able to go back and see each year's progression. I like them best now. Each post is really easy to see and scroll through.
The odd time I find it a bit slow getting from board to board or refreshing, but I figure it's probably the traffic at the time. Just means the boards are getting more popular and growing!! :)

i remember the big change in december 2001.. everyone was all "omgaw what are PMs?" "we can have smilies in our sigs?" "we can type using COLORS?"

and look at the stats for the FOL board in 2001. it had almost 20,000 posts.. versus 5,000 for CC and waaaaaaaay less for every other sitcom. *sigh* memories.

I remember that! I'd never heard of private messaging. Though it was just what I'd always thought the boards needed: a methed of contacting other members without the obligation of releasing e-mail address.

I like the latest upgrade. It's easier to find which threads have new posts now, and I think it prettier!

It took me forever to figure out how to get my own avatar! I think if you look in the archives, you could see how poorly I understood the directions! But, I finally got it! And good thing too! Because aint no avatar can match my own! :woohoo:

It goes slower for me as well, but overall I've gotten use to the new layout. It really helped attract new members and some old ones. Especially after that mass defection a few months ago.
