NBC'S "LATE NIGHT WITH CONAN O'BRIEN" MAKES HDTV DEBUT TUESDAY, APRIL 26

"Late Night with Conan O'Brien" makes the leap to High-Definition TV when it returns to the air on Tuesday, April 26 (12:35 AM - 1:35 AM on NBC). "Late Night" becomes the second late night show to broadcast in HDTV, following in the footsteps of "The Tonight Show" which was one of the first programs featured in the HD format.

Viewers in both high and standard definition will notice the difference immediately as the show will be presented in a widescreen or "letterboxed" format that preserves the full framing of the HD image similar to some NBC primetime shows like "The West Wing" and "E.R." Future enhancements include 5.1 Surround Sound.

Quipped O'Brien: "I'm really looking forward to the extra hour in the makeup chair."

Guests on the episode are New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, star of NBC's "Revelations" Natascha McElhone and musical guest Ben Folds.

"Late Night with Conan O'Brien" is from NBC Universal Television Studios in association with Conaco and Broadway Video. Lorne Michaels and Jeff Ross are the executive producers. Allan Kartun directs. Mike Sweeney is head writer.

I saw its first broadcast last night and there's no amount of Conan O'Brien humour can cover up this bad idea.

Do you post at IMDB, or did you take that from the post over there?

Anyways... I like the 16x9 format, I don't have to watch Conan all streched out anymore on my widescreen set.

BTW, I heard that SNL is going to start airing on 16x9 also. :\

yeah I know what you mean. I tuned in for a Conan fix last night and it was in widescreen and I was like "what the hell!" I thought there was something wrong with my TV. (It took me awhile to figure out that there was nothing wrong with my TV though because the next channel I flipped onto was showing a movie... )

It looks weird. Especially on a small tv! Oooh, we can see his mugs now!! Who cares?! Yeah, movies in widescreen is a lot more useful than a TV show, ESPECIALLY a talk show!

I still love my Conan though! :D
