do you guys think Madonna should retire or do you think she has a lot more to offer to her fans in the future? personally i think she's done all she can and that she really doesn't have much more to offer.

I haven't been interested in anything Madonna has done in a long time, so I really don't care what she does in the future.

well, I am hoping Madonna ditches the Kaballah crap. It was kinda neat in 1998, but after people like Britney, Paris and Ashton have jumped on the bandwagon, it went from an interesting mystical belief to downright annoying. Madonna is as bad as a $cientologist in terms of her making such a fuss about her religion.

Her music is still good, but she is losing her mind the more obsessed with Kaballah she's become.

She was on her way to being the female equivilent of The Beatles, but she seems to have decided she has lost the hunger and has started to become boring because all she does when she gives interviews is talk about Kaballah. People don't want to hear a Christian or Jewish celebrity do nothing but talk about their faith, what makes Madonna think people want different from her?

Needless to say, reuniting with some of her older producers, like Patrick Leonard (Like A Prayer and True Blue) might make her next cd the best she's recorded in awhile.

well, just because one is no longer in their prime doesn't mean they should up and retire. If every artist hung it up the moment an album doesn't go double platinum, basically all of the great artists would be gone. A lot of the older artists are still making great music, and just because they're no longer the MTV flavor of the month doesn't mean they're any less worthy than they were 20 years ago.

I actually liked the old Madonna. But now I just find her annoying with the Kabbalah crap. I don't have a problem with one's religion but when she flaunts it and makes it the new celebrity trendy bandwagon it's friggan irritating. I honestly think she could go two or three years without making some big "statement" or publicity stunt. She just likes the attention and the selling of her image and almost doesn't give a crap about putting out good music anymore.But whether she retires or not I honestly don't care.

I have her albums Immaculate Collection and Ray of Light,and since then,I haven't liked what shes done.

I love Madonna. I like all of her songs but I chose I don't care either way.

She is very talented but she has made her mark in the music business. I think she should devote most of her time now to raising her children.

I like a lot of her '80s and early '90s music more than her recent music. Her albums The Immaculate Collection and Something To Remember are my favorites. I don't think she should retire, unless of course she wants to retire. Just because she's getting older doesn't mean she should stop making music. Tina Turner and Paul McCartney are older than Madonna and I don't hear of them retiring from the music business yet. I don't really care whether Madonna keeps making music or not, but if she wants to keep making music I don't see why her age should stop her.

It doesn't matter, because she's already destroyed popular music for the foreseeable future. She made the world safe for Brtiney, she helped popularize hip-hop and she sabotaged grunge by promoting Candlebox. Also, she'sseen to it that anyone who doesn't share her musical values doesn't succeed commercially.

I don't mind Madonna, but I'd hardly compare her anywhere close to The Beatles!! Her writing does not come close to that of Paul and John - or even George for that matter. She's done a few nice little pop tunes - nothing that's going to stand up to The Beatles catalog!
The Beatles are in the class of the great composers like Bach.
Madonna was better at marketing than her entertaining capabilities.

She's at another stage in her life anyway where she's more of a mother and wife. I don't think she still has the edge she once did - which is fine. Every artist has their time and place and her best days are behind her. No big deal.

you didn't have to get so defensive, but I'll back my opinions up.

Yes, The Beatles are good, but they are also from an era of music I'm not that crazy about (I am not much a Stones or Who fan either). I agree that they changed music and revolutionized everything, but it's not really my thing.

All you've ever been told is being shoved down your throat about how important the Beatles are and how great they are to the extent that a lot of people might like some of their music, but don't think they are THAT great.

Madonna came out at a time I was old enough to be aware of what's going on in music and the world, I grew up with her. Her videos and the sort remind me of certain points of childhood and my teen years. The Beatles broke up almost a decade before I was born, by the time I was old enough to know who Lennon was, he was dead. By the time I was old enough to know who McCartney was, he was beginning to wind down and go the "oldies tour" route. I remember George Harrison having a huge hit with "Got My Mind Set On You" but then he didn't do any more solo albums until he died.

I will not discredit The Beatles, and actually like a lot of their music contrary to popular belief (even tho I am a bigger fan of solo Lennon and McCartney because it's more the music I'm into), but.. if you asked me to choose between the two, I'd pick Madonna, because I was actually there for the ride, whereas everything The Beatles did had already been written in stone years before I was born.

It's very much the same reason I prefer watching Roseanne to I Love Lucy. Lucy may be the icon and Roseanne the follower, but it was Roseanne who I grew up with.

I think that whether a person likes or dislikes Madonna you can't argue that she has certianly left an impression on pop culture. You simply could not have grown up in the past twently years and not know who Madonna is. Also she has continued to release hit records when many of the other artists popular at the time that Madonna released her debut are has-beens.

However, I don't think that Madonna's name can even be mentioned in the same sentence as The Beatles. Madonna has always been very savvy about whats going on in the world of music, and she has altered her sound to stay in the mainstream, but she will never be the songwriter that Lennon and McCartney were (I use the past tense "were" with McCartney because even though he is still making music, I don't think his post-Wings music has been all that great). I don't believe that at anytime during her career that Madonna even came close to reaching the importance of John, Paul, George and Ringo.
