View Full Version : Why does Lilly call her father Grandpa gilligan fanatic 04-19-2005, 08:21 PM I always wondered why Lilly called Grandpa Grandpa and why is his last name Munster and not something else. Munsters#1 04-19-2005, 08:41 PM She calls him "Grandpa" because it's like a nickname. It doesn't necessarily have to be a title, it's just a nickname. As for Grandpa's name. According to episode 58, his full name is actually Count Sam Dracula. So really he is Grandpa Dracula, but I don't know why he prefers Munster over Dracula. Laugh30 04-19-2005, 10:46 PM Lily would call him "Father" once in a while. Munsters#1 04-19-2005, 11:01 PM From "Autumn Croakus" Lily: "Oh that's just Dad!" gilligan fanatic 04-20-2005, 03:15 PM okay that makes more sense now Prince Michael 08-07-2012, 05:50 AM Grandpa's name was "Sam Dracula" . In a family situation, the kids call their grandparents "Grandma" and "Grandpa" . Their parents get into the habit of referring to them as "Grandma" and "Grandpa" ( "Take this to Grandpa !" ), and finally everybody, no matter what their relationship to Grandma and Grandpa, gets used to calling them "Grandma" and "Grandpa" . It happens more often than you realize . McGillicuddy 08-07-2012, 07:07 AM So was Lily, Lily Dracula Munster? Prince Michael 08-07-2012, 11:11 AM Exactly, Markway ! I've called her "Lily Dracula Munster" ! I wish I'd said so before ! McGillicuddy 08-21-2012, 04:54 PM There was also confusion over Marilyn. Marilyn would have had to been Herman's brother's niece to have the same last name. But in one episode, Herman said to Lily--"She's your niece", or something like that.  Maybe she was really Marilyn Dracula, and Herman adopted her. MickeyMac 08-21-2012, 06:50 PM From what I understand Marylin is the daughter of Lily's sister, so I guess her last name is Dracula too. ph1l 09-16-2012, 04:48 AM Lily would call him "Father" once in a while. Lily says it twice in "Herman's Child Psychology". jehobden 09-29-2012, 02:33 AM From what I understand Marylin is the daughter of Lily's sister, so I guess her last name is Dracula too. Marilyn's last name would likely not have been Dracula, since her mother, not her father, was a Dracula. In any case, she was referred to at least once as Marilyn Munster, so she was like family, even if she was not adopted by Herman & Lily. McGillicuddy 10-01-2012, 05:03 PM Yes, both Grandpa and Marilyn were refered to as "Munsters"--Grandpa Munster and Marilyn Munster. Doesn't make much sense, but they were! Kind of like on The Beverly Hillbillies, I think Granny is sometimes considered "Granny Clampett". And when someone refers to the Clampett family, that includes Granny, Jethro and Pearl, even though Granny is a "Moses" and Jethro and Pearl are "Bodines". Only Jed and Elly are actually Clampetts. duckie 10-01-2012, 05:56 PM Because of the grand kids, up to the day she died, we called our mother granny. Prince Michael 10-02-2012, 01:56 AM Yes, both Grandpa and Marilyn were refered to as "Munsters"--Grandpa Munster and Marilyn Munster. Only Jed and Elly are actually Clampetts . Did they ever call Grandpa "Grandpa Munster" ? Most of the time, he was just plain "Grandpa" . When they needed to use his name, he was "Count Dracula" or "Sam Dracula" . I wouldn't be surprised if the writers got lazy and called him "Grandpa Munster" . If you want to mention The Beverly Hillbillies, there was a VERY EARLY episode before Jane Hathaway got to know the Clampetts, she called Granny "Granny Clampett", and they explained that Granny was Daisy Moses . It was common to call Jed's family "the Clampetts", when they were Jed and Elly Mae Clampett, Jethro Bodine, and Daisy Moses ( "Granny" ) . "Mr . Clampetts family" or "Jed Clampetts family" would have been more accurate . It sounds like the writers of The Beverly Hillbillies got lazy as well . The writers never did much with Pearl or Jethrine . I was surprised when my parents told me there was a Jethrine . I remember one episode where Pearl or Jethrine moved to California to live with Jed, and they were gone by the next episode . Was that because Bea Benaderet got the role of Kate Bradley on Petticoat Junction ? ph1l 10-07-2012, 04:26 AM So was Lily, Lily Dracula Munster? In the episode "Happy 100th Anniversary" Lily signs a cheque 'Lily Dracula Munster'. In a continuity error, later on in the episode the cheque is suddenly signed 'Mrs. Herman Munster'. |
