Anyone have a famous or semi-famous group or singer from where you live or grew up at?

My hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin can lay claim to really cool rock groups: The Bodeans and The Violent Femmes

Toronto, Canada:
Neil Young
Blood, Sweat & Tears
Saga
Triumph
Downchild Blues Band
Max Webster/Kim Mitchell
Rush
Glass Tiger
Bare Naked Ladies
The Tragically Hip
Trooper
Lighthouse
Steppenwolf
Gowan (yuck), and even though they weren't born here, their careers started here: Alanis Morissette and Shania Twain.

I'm sure there are a few more that just aren't coming to mind at the moment.

LOVE some of those bands! J.Geils Band (Centerfold) and LOVED Boston's first album the minute I heard it. I still remember where I was and what I was doing the first time I heard that thing!

It is! I actually loved every single song on that entire album. The only other band that I can say that about is Led Zeppelin. They're in good company!

(and I even worked with Saga and Triumph and knew Kim Mitchell and a couple of the guys in Rush, but still love Boston)!

Well, I am just saying which musicians are from my hometown. That's all! I live 50 miles north of Detroit. Yup Michael Moore is from Flint . :D

And I have mentioned this before..........This old guy(he's dead now)who was a friend of mine was Madonna's third cousin. They are from Bay City which is about 50 miles north from me.

From Saskatchewan I can't think of any off-hand. There's one song called "Saskatchewan" by the Rheostatics, but I'm not sure if that band is from Saskatchewan or not.

Shadows Fall and STAIND are from Springfield, MA. Two great rock bands.SHADOWS FALL!!!!!!! YEAAAAAHHHHH!!!! Next to Lamb of God, everything I've been looking for in today's metal on one album!!!!

Auburn, WA: Not much unless you include local heroes New American Shame, a band of teenagers who were actually asked to open for The Cult on a national tour several years ago. Their big song was "Under It All", kinda AC/DC-ish, but very good.

Seattle bands: Queensryche, Metal Church, Forced Entry, Rail, Culprit, TKO, My Sister's Machine, the Heats, Sanctuary/Nevermore, the Accused, Screaming Trees, Mother Love Bone, the Posies, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Mother Love Bone, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Candlebox, 60's bands The Ventures, and The Sonics, JIMI HENDRIX, Heart, Mudhoney, Skin Yard, Green River, Tad, Hammerbox, Goodness, Temple of the Dog, The Melvins, Modest Mouse (from Issaquah), Death Cab For Cutie (from Bellingham), Gruntruck .

This band is called Mercy Kiss. Though they are now based in Milwaukee, the two members in the middle and on the left went to the high school (in Ohio) that my kids will soon be attending. They played there this past Monday and were hanging out signing autographs again Tuesday, cuz they were in the area to play (last night) in the nearest large city. My older daughter is now in love with the bassist (the guy on the right)...LOL! Some of her friends said they sounded like the band "My Chemical Romance". I think they have recorded a couple of albums which are only available (so far) through their website.

West Caldwell, NJ can lay claim to Tommy Page, who had a number one hit with "Pieces of My Mind" in 1991. . . . and for that I would like to apologize on behalf of everyone in my hometown for that. Other towns in my area gave the world all the cool people from around here - Newark produced Sarah Vaughan, East Orange produced Whitney Houston, Montclair gave us Joe Walsh - and my hometown gurgles up a one-hit-wonder New Kid On the Block wannabe? Again, I'm teribly sorry. :(

West Caldwell also lays claim to the oldest cucumber magnolia tree in the state of New Jersey. Between Tommy Page and the tree, I prefer the tree. At least it never recorded an unlistenable song!

Yeah, and at least no one had to see the tree in that Full House episode either - to me, that was such a joke, treating him like he was one of the Beatles or something - he also kissed DJ (yuck), then tells Uncle Jesse he's got a girlfriend! (Not DJ, though, her name was Melanie) As much as I like Full House, I try to avoid watching this particular episode of the series.
