Although they finally took out the theme song "As Days Go By" in season 7, what season do you think the theme song started not to fit in with the show's premise? I would say around season 5 or even season 4 in some cases.

I agree the theme song really didn't fit in with the show by the start of the 4th season, especially when we hear "real love bursting out of every seam" and they show a scene where The Winslows are pushing/closing the door on Steve, that doesn't seem like real love to me. It really didn't fit during the 6th season when they start focusing much more on Steve, and Myra gets much more attention. Not to mention the fact that they were losing family members and gaining characters that revolved around Steve. Especially during the last season when they were certainly no longer the big happy family that they were the during the 1st season.

Yeah especially in season 6 when you have Myra blowing in Steve's ear in the opening credits.

The theme song is explaining how they're a big happy family, yet by the start of the 5th season Judy disappears, Rachel abandons Richie, and Mother Winslow had already gotten married and moved out during season 4, and missed out on like half the eps from season 5.

Right the theme song is about how they are a big happy family but when Judy disappears they act like she never existed. Carl and Harriette saying they only have two children. And Rachel disappears and the family (including her only son) does not even mention her.

Yeah I think that's why they got rid of the theme song. There was less people in the family and the show was less about the Family but more about Steve. By Season 7 I would have to say 1/3 of the original cast was gone. I'd almost count Richie as being gone because he seemed to only pop up every now and then after Season 7.

And non-family members like Waldo,Maxine, and Myra were getting more attention then Richie, Judy, and Mother Winslow.

Also it certainly did not fit in seasons 5 and 6 when you had Steve stepping in the transformation chamber. Also in season 6 when Carl stepped into the chamber. It is just so weird hearing the theme song when those episodes come on.

I was actually glad that they kept the theme song as long as they did because it at least kept the show grounded. The really crazy stuff took off in the last three seasons after they got rid of the theme.

I was also happy that even as Urkel become more prominent, at the end of the credits, when they began the zoom out, it was always just the Winslows sitting the living room. Never Steve. That was very important.

Do you think they should have changed the theme song after season 6 instead of getting rid of it completely?

Yes, and also changed the name of the show to "Urkel Matters" because that's what the show revolved around.

Well at least they got rid of the "What A Wonderful World Theme Song" when they did, imagine how strange it would have been to have that theme song throughout the series.

I just saw that eps when it aired on ABCFamily in the beginning of June, it was the 1st time I had seen it in yrs since TBS. They are currently airing season 6 eps, so it will take some time until the pilot airs again.
