John Fred, who recorded "Judy In Disguise (With Glasses)" with his Playboy Band and hit a number one hit with it in January 1968, died at 63 from compliactions of liver transplants. He'd been ill for a long time.
Fred, whose full name was John Fred Gourrier, wrote his chart-topping hit based on a misheard lyric from the Beatles's "Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds." Ironically, he displaced another Beatles song, "Hello Goodbye," from the number one spot on the Billboard singles chart.
John Fred and his Playboy Band were popular performers in New Orleans for years. He is survived by his wife and son. :(
