It is the lack of music video airplay why the music industry is so jaded.

There are no true "superstars" right now. There's artists like 50 Cent, Usher, Gwen Stefani, Eminem, etc.. who sell a lot of records, but there are no real icons right now, and it's because MTV is not giving videos the 100% support they used to. Why do you think people have resorted to doing reality shows? it's the only exposure MTV will give them now!

In the 80's, you had people like Michael Jackson, Madonna, Guns N Roses, Prince, Duran Duran.... that became members of your home because you saw their videos so much. In the 90's, it was Nirvana, Aerosmith, Snoop, Mariah, etc.. These artists and their videos became superstars and icons. Everyone of a certain age remembers watching Thriller. Can you say this generation feels the same way about watching Yeah? Even if the song was as big as they got, the video got about as much airplay as a song that would've peaked at #70 would've gotten in 1987.

Nowadays, there are a lot of songs that are huge that I've heard on cd and radio, but honestly can't say I've ever seen the video. Why not? MTV would rather be airing episodes of The Inferno and reality shows with Chad Michael Murray.

I don't care what anyone says about MTV, I still enjoy watching it.

I'm 34 now. From age 10 to age 25, the target demographic of MTV got younger and younger. Then around age 28, "young people" started focusing on getting their content from the internet. And people in their 30s and older, who were desperately clinging to their youth, became the target demographic of MTV because younger viewers didn't even watch TV anymore.

But it wasn't until the debut of MTV's first reality show The Real World that MTV would start focusing on developing other shows besides being a 24-hour music channel and if it wasn't for The Real World and their very first game show Remote Control shows like MTV's Singled Out and My Super Sweet Sixteen and other reality shows would not exist on MTV today. But MTV still showed music videos when Total Request Live debuted that launched the career of host Carson Daly and Total Request Live was so successful at launching music videos of hot new artists that would be huge in the years ahead. But if MTV created a new music video channel that showcases the classic music videos and even show reruns of concerts and movies such as Spice World and The Beatles Yellow Submarine and Magical Mystery Tour MTV would return to it's music video format once again for all the world to see

VH1 is no longer showing music videos anymore, VH1 Classic is now MTV Classic and still shows music videos from when MTV was all about music.

Its true that MTV was at its prime years during the 1980s and the 1990s because it was better back in the day when they had more Music:music:.

Ah man!!

Was MTV's downfall (https://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/mtv-highs-lows-network-turns-36-article-1.2733919) caused by (https://www.quora.com/How-did-MTV-go-from-awesome-to-atrocious/answer/Jon-Mixon-1) always being a narrow-minded network run by suits who didn’t seem to understand the music business…or for that matter the television business? What I mean is that as the early 2000s rolled around, the Internet was forcing changes in the industry and MTV seemed to not be prepared for that. The network took nearly a decade to catch up with changes that were happening, and by that time, they had already missed the bus. Things have simply grown worse for it from there.

Everything on TV is pure crap now!!
