...that Robert Reed was gay? I've been wanting to ask this for a long time now. However, on some sites (not particulary this one), people can be very sensitive about a topic like this. After hearing the Brady cast say that they themselves KNEW that "Bob" was gay, I say, what the hell.

As for me, I was 2 years old when BB first premiered. Too young, of course. A few months before his death, when the media and Enquirers/tabloids broke the story, I was shocked. I think it was unfair for the media to dog the man like that. It was his lifestyle.

Growing up, I always looked at him as a great father. Never paying attention to everything else. I looked at him as a normal TV dad. I didn't know anything about gay back then. That was the last thing I ever expected to hear.

I'm glad he bonded so well with the kids and they all say he was like a father to them. I think it helped fill a "fatherly" void in his life.

Just really sorry he had to die so young and when AIDS still was so misunderstood. I think he went out of this world feeling pretty lonely poor guy - he deserved better.

You're right. He did treat the kids like they were his own. I remember them telling the story of him buying them all movie cameras. He did seem kind of a lonely man. From what I understand, his family didn't show for his funeral.

Oh you're kidding! How awful it must have been for people dying from AIDS back then. (Obviously its still bad, but at least people don't treat them like leppers anymore). My heart really goes out to anyone who had to endure the bigotry and stigma of the disease.

He has/had a daughter, he was a father to a real life daughter.

It was not that big of a shock to me. Since, I got the shock in the 80's of Roc Hudson having Aids and finding out he was gay, I dont think that any celebrity of any stature or role could shock me again. I think that if he were the first outed celebrity with complication from Aids, I may have been more shocked.
I have never knowingly watched anything else he acted in, and I did not start watching the BB until after his death (without playing a drinking game or making so much fun of it that you could barely hear the TV over all the laughing and insults), so I really had no opinion if I should have been shocked or not. As a teen in the 80's I will admit I used to refer to the whole group of guys on that show as gay (and I was not making fun of gays, we were teens, rebelious, and made fun of those perms.)

i only "Discovered" my love for the brady bunch about a year ago, after watching growing up brady. and it was clear on the movie that he was gay, and i wasnt shocked. i think if i had found out years ago i wuld have been. but when you are watching the brady bunch, you dont think of him as being gay or dead. his daughter was on the sleepover ep, wasnt he. if his family didnt show at his funeral, thats sad.

Boy they sure couldn't have been close though - especially if his own family wasn't present at his death. Seems like he felt a bond more to his t.v. family than his real life one.

Great page - really gives you the lowdown. His grave marker is sad - no family, "beloved" or anything. Almost like his friends and peers bought it for him. :(

I really only liked Mike and Greg,Greg grew up nicely on the show.He had the most gorgeous smile,and he was very hot.

I suppose I was a little surprised but it didn't really change my thoughts about him.

Not much reaction from me. I didn't watch the show much anymore at that point really when I had found out.

I just watch the shows for the acting and so on. I don't really care what people do off the set.

Now I started watching the old shows again just a few years ago. He was really a great actor I think. He fit the part perfect.

let me correct everyone on something I just found out a couple years ago: he didn't die of full-blown AIDS, it was AIDS-related cancer.
For years, I also thought it was full-blown AIDS; but then I heard Florence Henderson say in an interview that it wasn't.

To be brutally honest, I don't agree with that lifestyle, BUT it was HIS BUSINESS!! I didn't care to know that about him or anyone else for that matter. The media had no business bringing that out after all these years and then waiting until after he died to add whatever they pleased so they could once again "get their story". What a bunch of JERKS!
