(Studio Briefing) Conservative activist Brent Bozell's Parents Television Council has launched a campaign to urge advertisers to drop sponsorship of the FX cable network hit, The Shield, which it said, "depicts the most explicit sexual content and nudity, obscene language, and graphic violence imaginable."

The PTC pointed out that FX airs on basic cable, "which means that if you have a cable subscription so your children can watch The Disney Channel, Nickelodeon or The History Channel, there's a good chance they could have stumbled across this horrific content by mistake." The PTC urged members "to send a loud-and-clear message to FX and the show's sponsors that we're not going away until they either get rid of the obscene filth on this show, or stop forcing us to subsidize it."

Producers of the program have pointed out that it airs at 10:00 p.m., that viewers are warned of the graphic content, that the program can be blocked with the V-chip and that cable subscribers can ask their company to block it at their homes.

To whom it may concern,
Obscenity is in the eye and/or ear of the beholder. What may offend some people often does not offend others.

If there's something on TV that you don't like, DON'T WATCH IT!!
If there's something on TV that you don't want your kids to see, SEE TO IT THAT THEY DON'T WATCH IT!! Or, does all of that make too much SENSE??
"The most explicit sexual content and nudity, obscene language, and graphic violence imaginable"??? Evidently, Brent Bozell's Parents Television Council has either never seen The Shield or has never seen much of anything else.

The Shield is a brilliant, amazingly-well-written, expertly-directed, and astoundingly well-acted show. If a parent doesn't want his or her child to see it, he or she should instruct that child to not watch it. If he or she doesn't trust that this instruction is enough, he or she should keep a closer eye on the child.

Finally, I am 48 years old, and both of my parents died many years ago. And, I don't want to lose one of my favorite television shows because the members of some moronic council don't know how to be parents!!

God I hate these groups. They walk around trying to shove their opinions down everyones throat and repressing free choice. If parents dont want their kids watching the show, they can turn it off or change the channel! Can't parents be allowed to 'parent' themselves anymore? I suppose we should just let these groups, churches, MPAA, and government decide the decisions from now on. Oh, and of course the schools

Sorry but this really burns me up. If the Shield is offensive, dont watch it. This doesnt mean make it your lifes goal to stop OTHERS from watching what you don't like

If the kid is too immature to watch a TV show then they should be asleep by 10PM.
