View Full Version : NASTY glitch on "Murder, She Wrote" S1 DVD

I don't know if anybody has run into this problem yet... Maybe it's just my DVD, but it wouldn't hurt for me to ask. :)

This occurred on Side A, Disc 2 of the MSW DVD set, at the end of the 2nd episode there... "Death Takes a Curtain Call." Approximately 43 minutes in (all the MSW episodes are 47 minutes or longer), the picture starts moving really slowly and sometimes freezes for a LONG time. On the current DVD player I'm using, when this starts happening the picture also starts acting like it's having seizures. That's the only way I can describe what happens to the picture at that point. This glitch gets progressively worse until about around the 45-minute mark, when I cannot even get it to play. It basically freezes up... the picture moves a second once every few minutes but that's it. When the picture seizures occur, sometimes the character's face looks "snowed," other times the lines are completely out of order (like the character's chest is where their head should be placed). Then this is accompanied by a multitude of colors... The slow-mo picture, the seizures, the displaced lines and colors continue for a LONG time.

Has anybody experienced that problem with any of the episodes on the MSW DVD?

I don't know if it's just my DVD...nobody else here has posted that they have it or experienced the same problem, so that's why I made this thread.

The current DVD player I have now (also a DVD recorder) has a really weird way of handling glitches. I need to play it in the other DVD players to see if it's OK in there.

I know that BuffySlayer also has this set. Maybe he can comment on his copy.

PZelda, sorry about it messing up on the Vicki episode. I know that must have pissed you off.

Write to them and inquire about the problem. That's uncalled for.

I just watched said episode last night (I have a ton of new sets so I'm watching them all partially) and I didn't notice anything odd with the picture towards the end of the episode. Since both defective episodes are on the same disc (I am very sorry, I know that the Vicki episode was probably the one you most wanted to watch), it sounds like you have a defective disc. Do you still have your receipt? I'd exchange it, or I'd try to contact Universal and see if they can do a replacement disc thing.

Even if you don't have a receipt, you can just bring it back to Best Buy, tell them the problem, and they'll exchange it for you.
However, they will open up the plastic packaging right there, so you don't come back the next day and try to get money for it.

I had to do this with my Golden Girls Season 1 DVD.

I'm not sure...I think I threw out the receipt. :( It's hopefully still in the garbage can in my bedroom so I'll have to rummage for it.

Tim, I got my DVD's at Target, not Best Buy. We don't have a Best Buy here anymore. :cuss:

They'll do that same package opening thing that Tim talked about at Target too. I had to take back a Flintstones season 3 set after there was a big fat wet fingerprint on the double sided disc. When I saw a dirty disc in a supposedly new set, I was like "WTF"? Anyway, they did exchange it. Not sure if they'll do it without a receipt though.

I'm sure they'll do the same thing. Say you got it as a gift. 99% chance they'll do it for you.

GOOD NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!

It turns out I didn't throw out the receipt I got with my MSW DVD, so I can go back and exchange it! :D I forgot that I keep the receipt every time I get a TV DVD set and once I've watched it the whole way through, I throw it out. :D

I can go back and exchange it tomorrow...But I'm pretty sure they don't have any more copies of MSW, and they'll give me a gift card instead (I will NOT want one)...If that happens, what should I do? I haven't had to exchange my DVD in a long time...the last time I exchanged a defective DVD was one of my Brady Bunch movies (it kept skipping very badly) and I exchanged it at Suncoast, where I originally got it...

Thanks! :)
