View Full Version : Season 2 Officially Announced For July 26
jaime_weinman 04-13-2005, 08:33 PM Fox just posted the official announcement of The Mary Tyler Moore Show: The Complete Second Season. Release date is July 26, price is only $29.98. The format is a three disc set with two single-sided discs and one double-sided disc. Here is the cover art (http://img49.echo.cx/my.php?image=mtm29sr.png).
And it looks like it will include all the special features that were produced for the second season back in 2002 before the first season came out. (Because these were produced years ago, I wouldn't expect future seasons to be as packed full of stuff. but it's good that they're releasing the features that were already produced.) Here are the special features:
- Commentary for "The Birds... and um... Bees" with Treva Silverman (writer), Jay Sandrich (director) and Allan Burns (co-creator)
- Commentary for "The Six-and-a-Half-Year Itch" with Edward Asner, Treva Silverman, Jay Sandrich
- Commentary for "The Slaughter Affair" with Gavin Macleod and Peter Baldwin (director)
Bonus features on disc 3:
- Eight Characters in Search of a Sitcom (new, 40 minute documentary about season 2)
- Moore On Sunday
- 1971-72 Emmy Winners - Edward Asner: Outstanding Performance by and Actor In A Supporting Role; Valerie Harper: Outstanding Performance by An Actress In A Supporting Role
- Love Is All Around Karaoke: Season One Version; Season Two - Seven Version
- Newsbeat Segment DM-1509
- Photo Gallery
- Mad Magazine Parody: The Mary Tailor Made Show

jaime_weinman 04-16-2005, 12:25 AM Don't take this the wrong way, TV on DVD fan, but it doesn't really do any good to post the Amazon ranking every single day. The amazon ranking doesn't become important until about a week before it's released. And even after that, the amazon ranking doesn't always provide a clear indication of how well something is selling (some things sell well online but not well elsewhere, and vice-versa). So let's discuss the upcoming set, not the amazon.com ranking, because until the release date is closer, that's meaningless.
TV DVD Fan 04-16-2005, 10:32 AM i just am a fan like everyone else here, and i think that if something is selling well on amazon, THE NUMBER ONE ONLINE ETAILER, then it means its doing pretty well. if you meant your last comment about amazon isnt the only etailer, then how in the world would it matter a week before the release?
everyone else feels the same way i do, except for you. so if im bothering you, i'll post this somewhere else. does anyone else feel happy about the stats on amazon? (in the 400s isnt anything to sneeze at, and itll probably just keep getting better.) i know kristen agrees with me. im not personally mad at you, jaime, but i think the stats are something to give most of us hope! unfortunately the stats have currenly went down, however. we're now at #653. jaime, i know this is your thread, but please dont tell me what i can and cant post. (or should and shouldnt)

jaime_weinman 04-16-2005, 01:33 PM if you meant your last comment about amazon isnt the only etailer, then how in the world would it matter a week before the release?
I didn't say amazon isn't the only etailer. It's true that the amazon ranking provides a very good indication of how something is selling online. The point is that even today, most sales don't take place online, they take place in stores where people pay at the counter. And if something sells well on amazon it doesn't necessarily mean it's selling well off-line, and vice versa.
I'm not telling you what to post and what not to post. You can post what you want -- but I think you're taking these early rankings too seriously, and that means that people either get depressed unnecessarily (if the ranking goes down) or get their hopes up too high (if the ranking goes up). If the set is selling well a week or so before release date, on the other hand, that really is something to get excited about.
TV DVD Fan 04-16-2005, 06:57 PM i think more people like ordering online, after all, we've come so far in technology. we're all taking advantage of buying offline.
im still gonna post the rankings on my own post that i put up before your reply. i have a perfect example of if things are selling well on amazon they are selling well probably everywhere- the number 1 dvd on amazon at the moment- ( a movie) The Incredibles, a mega hit at the box office. i think your wrong, but i dont want to argue. lets leave it at that, before we upset one another. thank you for your input but I WILL still be posting the rankings, as i do for other tv shows. thanks, but no thanks.

robyrob 04-16-2005, 07:39 PM although it IS exciting to see positive sales rankings, i would actually rather see hard sales figures - some actual sales numbers from Fox or some relevant industry body...
TV DVD Fan 04-16-2005, 08:05 PM i would too robyrob, but alls we got for now is this. pav, any idea how well its selling currently online on other e tailers?

jaime_weinman 04-16-2005, 09:48 PM According to a report about a year ago, season 1 sold about 80,000 copies. That was disappointing to the studio because of all the money they spent on the set. Best-selling TV-on-DVD sets usually sell a few hundred thousand copies; the very best-selling ones sell a million copies (TV shows don't sell as well as movies).
MTM season 2 will sell more than that because of the lower price, but it'll need to sell more copies to make back its cost. I think it'll do it.
TV DVD Fan 04-16-2005, 10:30 PM im confident it will because of the lower price. it'll sell more copies than s1 because of it just like you said.

SpunkiiMonkii7078 04-16-2005, 11:49 PM It's great to hear that Season 2 is selling so well a few months before it's actual release date. That's fantastic!!!!
I'm going to buy Season 2 when it comes out. I would buy it online if I could, but I'm only 13 years old and don't have a credit card!!! Hopefully my parents plan on going to Wal*Mart or something around the release date!

Living In a '70's Dream 04-17-2005, 08:26 PM I love the cover for the second season DVD...now I cannot wait for the release in July :)
SpunkiiMonkii7078 04-18-2005, 03:50 PM I agree! I love the cover art!!! It's much better than Season One's cover art in my opinion. They sort of have a theme going with the big M on the cover, that's cool.

ThomasE 04-23-2005, 09:25 PM I am on the way to Walmart to see if I can buy sesaon 1!
ThomasE 04-23-2005, 10:33 PM I bought it for $14.44 from Walmart. I am sooo excited! I paid 70% less for what it was worth.
SpunkiiMonkii7078 04-24-2005, 10:52 AM That's great! $14.44 is a GrEaT price, and Mary is worth it!
I went to Wal*Mart yesterday for the first time in a few weeks, and they have a bunch of TV DVDS there for $14.44. I was really surprised, as some people said their Wal*Marts had taken down the special or they were sold out. But mine had at least 50 TV DVDS there of many different shows. I think there was Buffy, King Of The Hill, Malcom In The Middle, and some other shows.
Jessica
Season 2 finally made it on DVD after all.
