He then told his wife to get her lover out of the house immediately. I have NOT witnessed many good man/woman legal relationships. Not in my mom/dad, my marriage, my daughter's marriage, my brother's failed marriage and plenty more.

Since I've had a lot of years to think about this institution, I come up with "men want their mother with sex"... And there are exceptions out there, I haven't seen any.
