I'm not dissing his character or anything, but really, what's so great about Tony?

In my Crossover fanfic, I'm just about to depict T&J's wedding (present day, a little alternate-universe IDOJ). Just posted the bachelor party, and the big day is two days away.

He's going to end up at Stargate Command, along with Roger (I've been focusing on Roj cuz it is, after all, mainly an SG-1 story and Roger's there, Tony's in FL right now), and I've got to find some purpose for Tony to be on off-world missions. He's been on one, but that was to rescue Jeannie.

What's his specialty? Just being handsome and trying to cover Jeannie's little mishaps?

From the research I've done into the shuttles and such (they're shuttle astronauts in my world), the astronauts usually have some specialty, maybe what they went to college for in the first place (I have Roj majoring in Geology and Planetary Sciences, thinking that'd relate to the Corps of Engineers, give him a good reason to be on the Moon.)

I did a search on the IDoJ forum here for any kind of characterization information, with no luck specifically about Tony's character.

So if someone can tell me Tony's specialty, besides "astronaut, being cute and being Jeannie's master" I'd greatly appreciate it.

I never realized I understood Roj's character better. Except granting him a middle name, changing his age to fit the story and giving him a specialty, I think I've stayed within character really well.

Now I need to do the same with Tony. Help.

I haven't figured out what's so great about Tony, but what he's going to be doing once he's assigned to Stargate Command.

Technically he'll still be an astronaut.

He's going to be trained on the X-302 and X-303 Prometheus, probably (eventually) taking over as Captain. (I'm pondering this, because SG-1 fans agree the current Captain on the show is "an idiot.")

I'm not going to put him in the Captain's chair just for fluff and the heck of it. I'm sure if his experience and background was compared to Ronsen (the current Captain), Tony would be the obvious choice, considering his years as Mission Commander of many spaceflights, his background in aeronautical engineering, his command experience, etc etc. Makes sense, no?

Opens up a whole new realm of story possibilities if he's Captain/Commander and Roger's Pilot.
